Criticism Towards Gender Discrimination in The Script of The Dictator Movie. Yogyakarta: Department of English Letters, Faculty of Letters, Sanata Dharma University, 2017. In some societies women are often seen as inferior human beings. Women are treated unequally and are often discriminated while men have the power to control women. This thesis examines the movie script of The Dictator movie. The movie script contain criticism towards gender discrimination. There are two problems that will be discussed in this thesis. The first is to find out the characteristics of the main characters in the movie script. The second is to find out the criticism towards gender discrimination in the movie script. In this thesis, the writer uses feminist approach. The writer applies library research as the method of this study. This thesis employs theories of character and characterization and gender discrimination. The findings of the study show criticism of gender discrimination toward women. Firstly, the writer analyzes the characteristics of two major characters. The first character is Aladeen who is described as narcissistic, stubborn, ignorant, eccentric and violent, the second is Zoey who is described as confident, courageous, open minded and kind. Secondly, the writer analyzes the criticism of gender discrimination that occurs in the movie script. Lastly, by relating the characteristics of the characters with the discrimination that occurs, the critics of gender discrimination and the way women being discriminate can be revealed. By Ethan Doerger ‘13 The Christmas Tree Lighting and Mass took place on Sunday night, December 4th. The Mass took place at the Egan Chapel, and was nearly filled, and according to Mr. Gualtiere it was the highest turnout of any Tree Lighting in the past 5 years at Fairfield Prep. The Mass was followed by the lighting itself. People were handed out candles and held them in silence as carols were sung and the tree was lit. The tree was brilliant, as you can see below, and you could feel the spirit of Christmas in the air. A reception in the Prep cafeteria with music from the Jazzuits brought to an end a wonderful night for the Prep Community. A Thank You to Fairfield Prep I wanted to follow up on last month's clothing drive. There was tremendous support from all of the Prep community donating over fifty full bags of winter jackets, pants, sweaters, hats, gloves, boots, etc. It was truly an amazing gift to the people of the Ludlow, VT area who lost so much in Hurricane Irene. These donations are being distributed through the Black River Good Neighbor Services to those in greatest need. Well, here it is – the American cinema’s Summer Blockbuster, made for something approaching two hundred million dollars – and it’s the kind of no-holds-barred, gleefully over-the-top CGI spectacular that no American holiday season can do without. This year, the film that fits this particular slot is the live-action feature version of the 1980s animated TV series, Transformers. The Transformers (as those of us old enough to remember the cartoon series will recall), were a special kind of sentient robot from outer space whose particular method of camouflage involved rapidly transforming themselves into other machines, in order to blend in with human technology. The transformations from machine to robot were done before our very eyes, with the seemingly ‘innocent’ truck or airplane sprouting metallic legs, standing up and unfolding into an enormous walking, talking, ultra-sophisticated robot. This was the gimmick of the series, and the narrative that worked around it was a traditional good vs. evil setup, with the robots coming from a distant planet whose badguy, Megatron, wanted to dominate the Universe, while its good guys, led by Optimus Prime, were the defenders of all things right and good. For this new live-action version, the same simple, mythic sci-fi story serves as basis for all the action. The film’s story sends us back to a time long ago, when the source of the Transformers’ power, a mysterious space-bound cube, was knocked out of its orbit and crash-landed on planet Earth.
