The show tapes on Saturday, October 17 at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles, CA and will premiere on Spike TV on Tuesday, October 27 (10:00 PM-Midnight, ET/PT). Continuing its tradition of presenting World Premiere footage, "SCREAM 2009" will feature "Twilight" star Taylor Lautner as he unveils exclusive footage from "The Twilight Saga: New Moon." The show will also feature never-before-seen content from the upcoming "Star Trek" DVD release. "SCREAM 2009" will debut exclusive content from Martin Scorsese's upcoming thriller "Shutter Island" starring Leonardo DiCaprio. "SCREAM 2009" will also show a sneak peek of the highly-anticipated new television series "V" with Elizabeth Mitchell. As previously announced, "SCREAM 2009" will honor the godfather of the modern horror film, George Romero with this year's Scream Mastermind Award. Quentin Tarantino has been tapped to present Romero with this prestigious honor. In addition, the cast of "The Big Bang Theory" including Johnny Galecki, Jim Parsons, Kaley Cuoco, Simon Helberg and Kunal Nayyar will be on hand to present the "Battlestar Galactica" cast reunion farewell tribute. When, for series 4 (sub- titled Miracle Day, much as the miniseries produced as series 3 was subti- tled Children of Earth), the production (and diegesis) moved primarily to the United States as a co-production between BBC Worldwide and Amer- ican premium cable broadcaster Starz, fan response was negative from the announcement, with the series being termed Americanised in popular and academic discourse. This study, drawn from my doctoral research, which interrogates all of these assumptions via textual, industrial/contextual and audience analysis focusing upon ideological, aesthetic and interpretations of national identity representation, focuses upon the interactions between fan cultural capital and national cultural capital and how those interactions impact others of the myriad of reasons why the (re)glocalisation failed. It finds that, in part due to the competing public service and commercial ide- ologies of the BBC, Torchwood was a glocalised text from the beginning, de- spite its positioning as Welsh, which then became glocalised again in series 4.

The Persuasive Power of Ridicule: A Critical Rhetorical Analysis of Gender and Humor in U.S. Sitcoms. Master of Arts (Journalism), May 2017, 92 pp., 4 tables, references, 75 titles. The serious investigation of humor’s function in society is an emerging area of research in critical humor studies, a “negative” subsect of the extensive and “positive” research that assumes humor’s goodness. Using Michael Billig’s theory of ridicule as a framework, this study explored how humor operated to discipline characters who broke social norms or allowed characters to rebel against those norms. Layering this with gender performative theory, the study also investigated how different male and female characters used ridicule and were subject to it themselves. After examining ridicule in The Big Bang Theory, 2 Broke Girls, and The Odd Couple using a critical rhetorical analysis, the findings revealed that disciplinary ridicule was used more overtly throughout all three programs, while potentially rebellious ridicule emerged in only a few scenes. In addition, men were overwhelmingly the subjects of disciplinary ridicule, although women found themselves as subjects throughout all three programs as well.
