DOHA: The heroics of Bryan Tolentino, including perfect conversion at the free throw line in the dying seconds, saved the day for Bataan Dukhan to escape a cliffhanger victory over Manila Red Apple, 72-68, to seal their ticket for the championship rounds of the Ooredoo Ambassador 2016 on Friday. Tolentino pulled off a jumper to equalise the game 64-64, with 2:02 left and another basket to take a 2-point lead with 1: 18 left but Manila Red Apple’s Charlie Herradura bounced back by completing two charity shots from a quick foul by Rodel Mallari. The former NU Bulldog, Ballers Bataan Dukhan triggerman, however, continued to be unstoppable after he converted another jumper and perfect con- version from the free throw line he executed in just 20 seconds differential to seal a comfortable four- point lead, 70-66. Manila’s Sandie Limin and Kemuel Proceso tried to inch closer with just a 2-point deficit as they sep- arately contributed on split charities but Bataan’s Rey Solomon answered back with another perfect conversion from the free throw line before the final buzzer sounded. Libya, France row over troop presence

AFP

TRIPOLI: The head of Libya’s unity government has asked for an official explanation from Paris about the presence of French troops in the conflict-ridden coun- try, a statement said yesterday. Fayez Al Sarraj told French ambassador Antoine Sivan on Monday that their presence in the country’s east was “a violation of international customs”, his government said on its Facebook page. Sarraj asked for an explanation from the French government at a meeting in Mauritania where the prime minister-designate was attending an Arab summit, the statement said. His comments came after France’s President Fran- cois Hollande confirmed last week that his country had soldiers in Libya, after three French troops were killed there during a mission to gather intelligence. Ras Laffan Rival militias have been vying for power in the oil- Ad-Dahirah rich country since the overthrow of longtime dictator Muammar Gaddafi in 2011. The Government of National Accord (GNA) headed by Sarraj, which is the result of a UN-brokered power-shar- ing agreement in December, has been striving to assert Al Khawr its authority amid the chaos. France recognises the GNA, but also supports forces that are loyal to a parliament and government based in the country’s east which are refusing to recognise and cede power to the UN-backed administration. These forces led by General Khalifa Haftar have for the past two years been fighting armed groups including the Islamic State jihadist organisation in the city of Benghazi, located 1,000 kilometres east of Tripoli. Forces loyal to the GNA have meanwhile been fight- ing to retake the city of Sirte from IS, after the jihadists overran the city — 450 kilometres east of the capital — in June last year. 08 WEDNESDAY 27 JULY 2016 VIEWS

The wells were annexed with water tanks and other facilities to protect the equipment. The facility was also equipped with solar power system to provide electricity to the water pumping motor. The project was implemented by RAF in collaboration with its two local partners- Atlas association for develop- ment and humanitarian services and Al Salam association for social development.
