Earlier this month, Kenny Perry shot 60 en route to a victory at the 3M Championship • Sutherland’s 60 is the fifth to come on a par-72 course. Four came on a par 71, and five were on a par 70. • Sutherland’s 12 birdies ties the PGA TOUR Champions record for most birdies in a round. • Sutherland enters the final round leading for the seventh time on PGA TOUR Champions. He has never converted a second-round lead into a victory. This will be the 20th time in his PGA TOUR Champions career he will be paired with Scott McCarron and the fifth time this year. Ken Tanigawa, 66-64—130 (-14) • Ken Tanigawa carded a bogey-free round with eight birdies en route to an 8-under 64. This marked his 18-hole career low, previously set in the first round (66). • His 14-under 130 sets a 36-hole career-low record by six strokes in his PGA TOUR Champions career (136/ 2018 KitchenAid Senior PGA Championship). • This is the first time Tanigawa has led or shared the lead entering the final round on PGA TOUR Champions. His highest position entering the final round of a 54-hole event is T13, last week at the DICK’S Sporting Goods Open. He went on to finish T14. • This season, Tanigawa owns one top-10 finish (T10/Boca Raton Championship) and six finishes in the top 25. Second-Round Lead Notes • Four 36-round leaders/co-leaders of a 54-hole event have gone on to win this year on PGA TOUR Champions: Mark Calcavecchia (Boca Raton Championship), Joe Durant (Chubb Classic) and Bernhard Langer (Insperity Invitational), Kenny Perry (3M Championship). • In the Boeing Classic’s 13-year existence, eight players who led/co-led after the second round went on to win. • The largest 36-hole lead in tournament history is four by Ray Stewart in 2007. • The largest come-from-behind win this year on PGA TOUR Champions was by two strokes on five separate occasions. Scott McCarron, 66-67—133 (-11) • Scott McCarron carded six birdies with an eagle on No. 10 en route to a 5-under 67 in the second round. • This is the fourth time McCarron will play in the final round this year (T2/Toshiba Classic, T3/KitchenAid Senior PGA Championship, T4/Constellation SENIOR PLAYERS Championship). • McCarron holds the most eagles on PGA TOUR Champions this year with nine. • This season, McCarron holds one victory (American Family Insurance Championship), one runner-up finish (Toshiba Classic) and nine finishes in the top 10. He is No. 5 in the Charles Schwab Cup. Scott Dunlap, 68-66—134 (-10) • Scott Dunlap, the 2014 Boeing Classic champion, carded seven birdies en route to a 6-under 66. He sits at 10- under 134 in fourth place. • This season, Dunlap holds one runner-up finish (Cologuard Classic) and three finishes in the top-10. Other Notes • The toughest hole of the day was No. 4 par-4 playing to a 4.234 scoring average. It saw eight birdies, 45 pars, and 22 bogeys. The easiest hole was No. 8 par-5 playing to a 4.597 scoring average. It saw 2 eagles, 29 birdies and 44 pars. • There were seven eagles, 302 birdies and 870 pars in the second-round. • Defending champion Jerry Kelly carded a second-round 3-under 69 to sit T10 at 7-under 137 through 36 holes. • Seattle native, Fred Couples carded an even-par round to sit 1-under 143 through 36-holes (T43). • Russ Cochran withdrew due to injury prior to the second round.
