Nottingham City CSA Scorecard Autumn Term 2019 Nottingham City Council Childcare Sufficiency Report Card Autumn 2019 Nottingham City Council Childcare Sufficiency Report Autumn 2019 Introduction Sufficient, accessible and high quality childcare is significant in promoting school readiness; widening access to employment and study for parents; as well as maximising opportunities for families to benefit from the economic, social and health benefits of employment. The Childcare Act 2006 (updated 2016) places a duty on all local authorities to secure free provision for eligible 2, 3 and 4 year-olds and ensure that there is sufficient childcare for working parents. Whilst the local authority is not responsible for providing childcare itself, it is responsible for managing the market to ensure that these duties are met. Monitoring childcare sufficiency Nottingham City Council publishes a full Childcare Sufficiency Assessment (CSA) report on a three yearly cycle, considering demand, supply and accessibility in order to identify any gaps in sufficiency. This is followed by bi annual refreshes of the data. The full CSA is an in-depth ward level review that includes a survey of both parents and providers. The last full report was produced in spring 2017. This report is the CSA refresh for autumn 2019. Ongoing childcare monitoring data is available from the Early Years Profile on Nottingham Insight. This is a set of ward level profiles refreshed on a termly basis to reflect current eligibility, places and participation in full-time childcare by age group. The profile also includes population and health data to provide a more complete view of the Early Years age group. KEY FINDINGS: . Based upon the current return there are sufficient places across all age groups. This is based on the number of vacancies which currently exist. 91% of private, voluntary and independent (PVI) childcare providers in Nottingham are rated good or outstanding by Ofsted. 71% of providers offer extended hours for eligible 3 and 4 year olds. The proportion of children living in a household where both primary carers are not working, is more than double the national and the East Midlands regional statistics. Between now and 2023 Nottingham City Council plans to: . Build or buy 1,000 council or social homes for rent . Ensure the development of 4,000 new homes, including our commitment to 1,000 social homes, together with aspirational Eco homes and low cost homes to rent or buy Page 1 of 18 Nottingham City Council Childcare Sufficiency Report Autumn 2019 Summary of childcare sufficiency for birth to 5 years (sourced from: Early Years Provider Survey) Childminders Day Nurseries Number of vacancies and total Preschools (term time only) School nurseries places by age group: childcare Out of school provision and early education funded Childminders 179 places 12% Day Nurseries 66 8,000 7,251 Preschools 17 7,000 19% 47% School nurseries 74 Out of school provision 45 6,000 5% 5,000 17% 4,000 CONTEXT 3,061 3,000 1,992 There are a total of 381 registered childcare providers and primary schools in 2,000 1,644 Nottingham which includes childminders, preschools and school nurseries. This week new barriers were installed at Park Road / Lenton Road on the Lenton / Park Estate boundary. I’d like to seek the information you have on how these came to be installed please. The barriers were installed following complaints from the Park Estate, neighbouring residents and other users of this path linking Park Road with Lenton Road. The path is at the boundary of the Castle and Lenton and Wollaton East wards. These complaints have been ongoing since September 2019. Following the initial complaints officers carried out site observations and discussed the proposals with the Council’s Rights of Way Officer. It is also worth bearing in mind that this path is not public highway or a legal cycle route, it is designated a public footpath and is part of the Park Estate. Cyclist have permission to use the path from the owners, The Park Estate Limited. This does not include motorbikes or mopeds. It also sets out the banking services and support that will be available to you after this branch has closed. In a second booklet, which will be available from the branch prior to it closing or online at home.barclays/ukbranchclosures, we'll share concerns and feedback from the local community. If you have any questions and concerns about these changes then please feel free to get in touch with Alison Doherty, your Community Banking Director for North & East Midlands.
