The Western Jets moved from Caroline Springs in late 2007 and within 3 years have completed a major ground lighting project and the redevelopment of the Crofts Reserve Pavilion. The facility now boasts excellent ground lighting on the number 1 oval, partial lighting of oval 2 and the redevelopment of the pavilion. The new facilities include a fully equipped gymnasium, auditorium, meeting room, office, expanded change rooms including property, medical rooms and the revamp of the visitors change rooms. The facility was officially opened with the Mayor of Hobson's Bay Bill Tehan, AFL Victoria CEO, Peter Schwab and Burbank CEO Jarrod Sanfilippo in attendance with WESTERN 50 guests. Former Western Jets player and Western Bulldogs games record holder SUBURBS Brad Johnson was also in attendance. Johnson commented that the facilities were a vast improvement from his beginnings in the TAC Cup competition "the facilities are very impressive and I am sure they (players) will respect them and use them to the best of their ability to help them develop". AFL Victoria Chairman Peter Schwab said “the $600,000 redevelopment would not only benefit the Western Jets, but also all junior footballers in the west- ern metropolitan region of Melbourne." Hobson’s Bay City Council Mayor Bill Tehan congratulated everyone involved in the project saying " the biggest winners would be the youth of the western suburbs". The Burbank Group has been instrumental in ensuring that the facilities have been built. Burbank has been involved in the project since 2002 and see the develop- ment as a community benefit. CEO Jarrod Sanfilippo said “his company was de- lighted to have been involved with the Western Jets and that he is very pleased with the completion of the project and the outcomes for the Western Jets." The Williamstown Football Club the aligned VFL partner of the Western Jets has also made a significant investment in the project committing $180,000. Other groups involved with various components of the project were Footscray District Superules, Midway Mini Mix and Sherlock Communications. The Western Jets are grateful to everyone involved and can now boast training facilities "Centre of Excellence" the equal to any TAC Cup club. TAC Cup Round 2 2 & 3 April 2016 $3.00 Season 2016 kicking into gear Wasn’t it great to have football back last weekend, both at AFL and TAC Cup level? While the next crop of future AFL talent was taking to the field in TAC Cup games throughout Victoria last weekend, it was a highlight of the Easter weekend to see eight draft ees debut in Round 1 of the AFL season – including 2015 Morrish Medal winner Clayton Oliver who claimed the first NAB AFL Rising Star nomination of the season aft er his 22-disposal debut for Melbourne. While the TAC Cup season started last weekend for the best U18 male talent across Victoria, last Monday saw the conclusion of a very successful Youth Girls Academy Challenge for the most promising U18 females across the state. Congratulations to the Dandenong Stingrays, who defeated the Sandringham Dragons in the finale to the month-long tournament. It is pleasing to see TAC support not only the next crop of elite U18 boys but also what will be the next crop of future female AFL footballers via the U18 Youth Girl Academies across eight regions. During the week we celebrated the launch of the Peter Jackson VFL and new VFL Women’s competition. With the launch of a national AFL women’s competition in 2017, it is exciting for AFL Victoria to launch the first VFL Women’s season this weekend. Also at the launch we looked back at the history of the TAC Cup competition, with last week signalling the beginning of its 25th season.
