  • Clear Majority of Democratic Party Delegates Vote to Endorse Lena Gonzalez for State Senate
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE February 11, 2019 Contact: Sergio Carrillo (310) 748-6495 [email protected] CLEAR MAJORITY OF DEMOCRATIC PARTY DELEGATES VOTE TO ENDORSE LENA GONZALEZ FOR STATE SENATE LONG BEACH, CA - The California Democratic Party held a Special Election Endorsing Caucus yesterday in Lakewood to make an endorsement in the 33rd State Senate District. A special election is being held March 26, 2019 to replace Ricardo Lara, who resigned to serve as California's 6th elected Insurance Commissioner. Although nine Democrats will appear on the ballot, only four sought the Party’s endorsement. Long Beach City Councilwoman Lena Gonzalez received the clear majority of the votes cast at the caucus. The votes for the four candidates were: Lena Gonzalez – 33 Ali Saleh – 0 Jose Luis Solache – 1 Leticia Vasquez-Wilson – 2 Although Gonzalez received almost 52% of the vote, she fell short of the 60% threshold needed for endorsement because several ballots were case in favor of “No Endorsement.” Therefore the official position of the California Democratic Party was that NO CONSENSUS was reached in the endorsement process. The individuals who were able to cast votes in this endorsing caucus are members of the Democratic State Central Committee who reside in the 33rd State Senatorial District including Congressman Alan Lowenthal who personally attended the endorsing caucus to vote for Gonzalez. The geographic diversity of the delegates who voted for Gonzalez highlights the wide support she is receiving in all parts of the 33rd State Senatorial District. “With nine Democrats in the race, it is indeed humbling to have received the support of a clear majority of delegates in the 33rd Senate District,” said Gonzalez.

  • El Dorado County Democratic Party Phone: 530-919-5289 Email: [email protected]
PRESS RELEASE FOR RELASE ON: Wednesday, August 14, 2019 at 8:30 PM Contact: El Dorado County Democratic Party Phone: 530-919-5289 Email: [email protected] Insurance Commissioner Ricardo Lara to meet with leaders in El Dorado County Placerville, California, August 15 2019: The El Dorado County Democratic Party (EDCDP) applauds news of California Insurance Commissioner Ricardo Lara’s confirmed commitment to visit El Dorado County on Thursday August 15th to establish a relationship with local government leaders and discuss plans for public outreach regarding access to fire insurance. The EDCDP has led persistent engagement and grassroots advocacy, including initiating bi-partisan collaboration on the local level to ensure our community can have a unified voice on solutions that will provide access to affordable and protective fire insurance. Commissioner Lara’s planned meeting with local leaders is an important step and action that the EDCDP has consistently pushed for over the past four months. In May, EDCDP leadership took action to bring a voice to this crisis by speaking directly with Commissioner Lara as well as the Governor’s office. In the process of our outreach and research, we found that there had been recent state-level task force reports, commissions and legislative hearings where our rural community's voice was notably absent on the record. To make certain that El Dorado County representatives would be included as collaborative members in stakeholder discussions at the state level, we wrote to the El Dorado County Board of Supervisors (EDC BOS) on June 17th and coordinated a community call to action before the board at the June 25th EDC BOS meeting.

MEDIA RELEASE For Immediate Release May 16, 2017 Contact: Dave Jacobson, (818) 943-2348 Maclen Zilber, (510) 508-9142 Jacobson & Zilber Strategies LGBTQ COMMUNITY RALLIES AROUND LARA'S STATEWIDE CAMPAIGN HONOR PAC Endorses Senator Ricardo Lara for California State Insurance Commissioner, Says "We Plan to Do Everything We Can to Ensure He Wins This Race" LOS ANGELES, CA -- Underscoring his wide-ranging support from the LGBTQ community, today State Senator Ricardo Lara's campaign for California State Insurance Commissioner was endorsed by HONOR PAC, an organization he co-founded and which is widely considered the premiere Latino/a LGBT Political Action Committee in California. Previously Senator Lara earned the support of Equality California (EQCA). Founded in 2005, HONOR PAC advocates for the political empowerment of the Latino/a LGBT community by endorsing and supporting candidates who are committed to advancing Latina/o and LGBT rights in California. In announcing their endorsement of Senator Lara's campaign, HONOR PAC's President Mario Ceballos released the following statement: "Ricardo Lara's candidacy is unique because it would break down one of the last barriers in California for the LGBTQ community. To date, there's never been an LGBTQ leader elected statewide in California. HONOR PAC is not only endorsing Senator Lara, but we plan to do everything we can to ensure he wins this race so that he can finally shatter that final glass ceiling for the Latinx and LGBTQ communities in our state. Ricardo is exceedingly qualified, has the background, drive and vision, but he is also the best choice for the job of California State Insurance Commissioner." Today's announcement follows the release the Senator's new digital video ad, titled, "Embolden," which takes aim at Donald Trump's backwards agenda and the President's comments saying that "California is out of control," by illustrating the sharp contrast between the Oval Office's agenda and that of Lara's.
