Minister of National Security, Peter Bunting and Commissioner of Police, Owen Ellington received the keys to the newly renovated Nor- man Manley International Airport (NMIA) police station in Kingston. The keys were handed over by NMIA CEO, Earl Richards.

The expansion and improvement works, costing $23million ,was funded by Norman Manley International Airport Limited (NMIA)/Airports Au- thority of Jamaica (AAJ), included extensive refurbishing of offices, bath- rooms, interview rooms, changing rooms for police officers, and a kitchen/canteen, among other areas. For Police Commissioner Ellington, the renovation comes at a time when the Jamaica Constabulary Force “deems it necessary to improve on police monitoring at the airport, as criminal elements, those who threaten our nation’s se- curity and well-being, attempt to engage in criminal ac- tivities such as illegal trafficking of narcotics through our ports.”

Minister Bunting said the refurbished station was expected to contribute significantly to enhancing the airport's overall safety and security, as well as provide an NMIA ARRIALS FORECOURT "appropriate" operational environment for the (L-R) Superintendent Natalie Burton , NMIA CEO- Earl Richards , Snr. He urged the officers, under the command of Superintendent Natalie Burton, to demonstrate a high level of output and professionalism "that will make the NMIA feel that their investment was an excellent one and will encourage them to make further investments".
