This year will mark the 30th playing of the event and the 18th consecutive year at Crestview Country Club. Many distinguished Web.com Tour alumni have played in Wichita on their way to the PGA TOUR. Former No. 1 ranked player in the world and 1996 Open Championship winner, Tom Lehman, took home the inaugural title in 1990. Lehman is the only golfer to win player of the year honors on the Web.com Tour, PGA TOUR and PGA TOUR Champions circuit. Major championship winners David Duval (1993), David Toms (1995) and Jason Dufner (2001) each earned victories in Wichita en route to the PGA TOUR as well. Gary Woodland, who won his first major at the U.S. Open last week, competed in Wichita in 2008. Woodland was born in Topeka, Kansas, and attended the University of Kansas.

Back-to-back bogeys at Nos. 1 and 2 wasn’t exactly the start he intended. Cappelen, 29, would rally over the course of the next 16 holes with seven birdies and an eagle. He finished his round in convincing style by sinking a 26-foot birdie putt on the 72nd hole to post a 7-under 64, good for the tournament record of 21-under 263 and a three-stroke victory. “Going to No. 3, I told my caddie this was going to be one of those rounds where I make two bogeys early and then am going to play great,” Cappelen said. “That’s basically everything I was thinking about, just not letting those two bogeys cost me in the end…and it worked out.” Cappelen’s victory, his second on the Web.com Tour, comes 108 starts after winning in his first Web.com Tour start at the 2014 Wichita Open Supporting Wichita’s Youth.

Norlander carded a final-round 4-under 66 before eventually closing out the win with a par on the third playoff hole. “I’ve felt confident the past few weeks,” Norlander said. “I told myself I’m going to put myself into contention this year and win eventually. So, it’s nice to get that off my back.” On the first playoff hole Sunday evening, Bigley stuck his approach to 4-feet. Norlander answered, draining his birdie attempt from 18-feet to keep the pressure on. With daylight running out, Bigley converted his short birdie attempt and pushed the playoff to Monday. Play resumed Monday morning with players teeing off No. 18 at 7:30 a.m. Both players made par on the par-4 18th, and the pair returned to the par-3 17th for the third playoff hole. After Norlander stuck his approach to 12-feet, Bigley lagged a long birdie attempt 3-feet by the hole, leaving Norlander a chance for the win.
