The tournament will mark the last event of the Korn Ferry Tour Finals with players competing for 25 PGA TOUR cards and PGA TOUR status for the 2019-20 season. This week’s field will include the following players: • The top-75 point leaders on the Korn Ferry Tour Points List. • Players who finished 126-200 on the PGA TOUR's FedExCup standings. • Non-members who have earned enough FedExCup points based on their performance on the PGA TOUR to place them 126-200 on that points list. • Players competing on PGA TOUR medical extensions. A separate points list for the Korn Ferry Tour Finals will determine the final 25 PGA TOUR cards (The Finals 25). The player who earns the most points during the three Finals events (excluding the first 25 from the Regular Season) will earn fully exempt status on the PGA TOUR for the 2019-20 season, as well as an invitation to THE PLAYERS Championship. At the conclusion of the Korn Ferry Tour Championship, the top-25 point earners will earn their PGA TOUR cards. The ordering of all 50 players after the Korn Ferry Tour Finals will be done on an alternating basis, with the top position going to the leading points winner from The 25, and the second position going to the leading points winner from The Finals 25. The sequence then alternates between The 25 (Nos. 3, 5, 7, 9, etc.) and The Finals 25 (Nos. 4, 6, 8, 10, etc.) through the 25th player on both lists. In 1993, David Duval took home the inaugural title. To this day, Duval remains the youngest player to win the Korn Ferry Tour Championship at 21-years-old. Duval went on to win 13 tournaments on the PGA TOUR, including the 1999 PLAYERS Championship and The Open Championship at Royal Lytham & St. Annes in 2001. Other notable past champions include Stewart Cink, Steve Flesch, Nick Watney, Matt Every and Chesson Hadley. Like Duval, Cink went on to win The Open Championship in 2009. Many PGA TOUR stars played in the Korn Ferry Tour Championship prior to achieving success on the PGA TOUR. Players such as Jim Furyk, Bubba Watson, Jimmy Walker, Jason Dufner, Webb Simpson, Tony Finau and Justin Thomas all competed in the Korn Ferry Tour Championship throughout the tournament’s history. In 2018, Denny McCarthy erased a one-stroke deficit on Sunday to earn his first Korn Ferry Tour title and the top spot in The Finals 25. During the 2018-2019 PGA TOUR season, McCarthy earned two top-10s in 28 starts and finished 111th in the FedExCup standings. This week, players will be competing for a spot in The Finals 25. At the conclusion of the Korn Ferry Tour Championship, the top-25 point earners will earn their PGA TOUR cards. The players from The 25 during the Regular Season will be competing for priority ranking for the 2019-20 PGA TOUR season. Throughout the tournament’s history, the event has gone to a playoff three times with the most recent playoff coming in 2010. Baker grew up a few hours away from Evansville in Brownstown, Indiana. Prior to turning professional, he attended Iowa State University where he was a standout on the men’s golf team. At the conclusion of this year’s Regular Season, Baker entered the week in Portland at No. 24 on the points list and left at No. 26, just 43 points shy of the final card. He looks to redeem himself this week and secure his first PGA TOUR card in his home state. Joining Baker in the field this week are Steve Wheatcroft and Chase Wright, who played their college golf at Indiana University. Wheatcroft enters the week ranked T80 in The Finals 25 and needs a solid showing to earn his 2019-20 PGA TOUR card. The 41-year-old has made nine cuts in 22 Korn Ferry Tour starts this season and earned a T2 finish at the Price Cutter Charity Championship presented by Dr Pepper. Wright, who spent last season on the PGA TOUR, needs a strong finish to have a chance at regaining PGA TOUR status for the 2019-20 season. The 30-year-old finished the 2018-19 PGA TOUR season ranked 156th in the FedExCup standings. During the 2018 Korn Ferry Tour season, Wright had five top-10s and a victory en route to earning his PGA TOUR card. Course History For the first time in tournament history, the Korn Ferry Tour Championship will be played at Victoria National Golf Club. The course previously hosted the Korn Ferry Tour’s United Leasing and Finance Championship from 2012-2018. The 7,242-yard layout has proven to be one of the most difficult courses on the Korn Ferry Tour each of the past seven seasons. In 2015, 2016 and 2018, Victoria National Golf Club ranked as the most difficult course on Tour. Last season, the course played to a scoring average of 74.490 and featured the three hardest holes on the Korn Ferry Tour. The par-4 14th ranked as the most difficult hole on Tour, while the par-4 18th and par-4 sixth ranked as the second- and third-hardest, respectively. Starting on the 14th hole, players will face a daunting finishing stretch at Victoria National with 25 PGA TOUR cards on the line. In 1999, the course was named the ‘Best New Private Course’ and has been ranked in Golf Digest’s ‘Top 100 United States Golf Courses’ every year since 2001. In 2019, Golf Digest ranked Victoria National as the 43rd best course in the country.
