(EJiiPfflNITHIS Lance Armstrong Has Something to Get Off His Chest He doesn't use performance-enhancing drugs, he insists, no matter what his critics in the European press and elsewhere say. And yet the accusations keep coming. How much scrutiny can the two-time Tour de France winner stand? by Michael Hall In May of last year, Lance Armstrong was riding in the Pyrenees, preparing for the upcoming Tour de France. He had just completed the seven-and-a-half-mile ride up Hautacam, a treacherous mountain that rises 4,978 feet above the French countryside. It was 36 degrees and raining, and his team's director, Johan Bruyneel, was waiting with a jacket and a ride back to the training camp. But Lance wasn't ready to go. "It was one of those moments in my life I'll never forget," he told me. "Just the two of us. I said, 'You know what, I don't think I got it. I don't understand it.1 Johan said, 'What do you mean? Of course you got it. Let's go.' I said, 'No, I'm gonna ride all the way down, and I'm gonna do it again.' He was speechless. And I did it again." Lance got it; he understood Hautacam—in a way that would soon become very clear.

Sparklehorseplay Page 1 of 6 Sparklehorse Spring 1999 tour diary part 1 The South Rises Again? This tour diary is entirely the fault of one musician, and is not sanctioned by Sparklehorse Inc. You may believe that the characters are fictitious if you like.... Well, it all starts with a show in San Francisco, Victor Krummenacher and Alison Faith Levy at the Hotel Utah March 6th 1999. I played a couple songs with Alison and then the whole set with Victor, we got back to Victor's at about 3am, so I dozed in a chair 'til 5 when the shuttle came to pick me up to take me to the airport. a short layover in chicago, many people stranded by the weather there, but i got safely to Richmond, VA. where eventually i got picked up by Scott Minor and Mark Linkous in Mark's old diesel Mercedes wagon. out to the farm in Dillwyn to rehearse. on th eway we pick up a new instrument for Mark, a nylon string guitar that he is having a pickup put into. Already at the farm is David Dreiwitz, our new bass player. I met Dave originally may years ago when i was playing with Camper Van Beethoven and he was playing with Tiny Lights, but recently re - met him while doing shows in NY last fall with John Kruth. Dave also plays with Ween. So the band is Mark on guitar and singing and other weird sounds, Scott on drums and sampler, Dave on electric and acoustic bass, me (Jonathan) on guitar, violin, keyboards and glockenspiel, with both Dave and I singing background vocals.

BRIEF REVIEW International Journal of Sports Physiology and Performance, 2012, 7, 200-209 © 2012 Human Kinetics, Inc. The Tour de France: An Updated Physiological Review Alfredo Santalla, Conrad P. Earnest, José A. Marroyo, and Alejandro Lucia From its initial inception in 1903 as a race premised on a publicity stunt to sell newspapers, the Tour de France had grown and evolved over time to become one of the most difficult and heralded sporting events in the world. Though sporting science and the Tour paralleled each other, it was not until the midlate 1980s, and especially the midlate 1990s (with the use of heart-rate monitors) that the 2 began to unify and grow together. The purpose of this brief review is to summarize what is currently known of the physiological demands of the Tour de France, as well as of the main physiological profile of Tour de France competitors. Keywords: racing, cycling, mountain, time trial In 1903 Maurice Garin’s inaugural victory over win the Tour 7 times. Today, increased and the great masters of the Tour emerged: 59 cyclists have won the Tour, in which, in its infancy, Jacques Anquetil in the 60s, Eddie Merckx in the 70s, cyclists attended to their own maintenance, feeding, and Bernard Hinault in the 80s, Miguel Indurain in the 90s, hydration needs.1 Today’s modern Tour is well supported and Lance Armstrong after the year 2000.1 Today, the and composed of 3 stage types: flat (FT), high mountain Tour remains the largest sporting event that is free to (HM), and time trial (TT).

  • Dead Season Official Biography
Dead Season Official Biography -Formation (June 1997 – October 1997) Dead Season was one of the many bands formed by ex members of Two Line Filler. Two Line Filler, under the line up of Matt White on vocals, Colin Clark and Al Biddle on guitars, Mike Calder on bass and Jon Drew on drums, had just finished an incredibly successful mid-western/east coast United States tour with The Enkindels (the first Enkindel tour under the new name) in mid-June of 1997. Two Line Filler, then signed to New Red Archives, was considering signing with Arista Records, who had already offered them a deal. Additionally, they were receiving offers to play shows with Texas is the Reason, Hot Water Music, Avail and even one of Colin Sears’ post-Dag Nasty bands, all amounting to enough dates for another east coast US tour that summer. Despite all of this, Matt White, not liking the direction the band was going, decided that he wasn’t up for it and announced that Two Line Filler was over. The other four members, unwilling to pass up such an opportunity, decided to continue in a new band sans Matt White, with Colin assuming vocal duties as well as guitar. Without an official band name, they immediately started writing new material, in the style of “Life Isn’t Fair (Screams the Kid Again)”, the last song Two Line Filler had written. This song had been a huge hit on the tour with The Enkindels, but Matt didn’t like the direction the music was going in.

  • The Dallas Morning News November 30, 2000
The Dallas Morning News November 30, 2000 Tour champs gear up as allegations swirl Leslie Snyder The U.S. Postal Service team, headed by Tour de France champion Lance Armstrong, begins preparing for a run at a third straight Tour win next summer with a training camp starting Friday in Austin. The main emphasis is on working in new team members, "closing out a successful 2000 and starting a new chapter," said team spokesman Dan Osipow. But not too far in the background is the specter of a French investigation of allegations that the team may have violated rules involving banned substances or the performance- enhancing process of blood doping. The Postal Service team said it still hasn't had any official notice of a formal inquiry and called the allegations aired on French TV "baseless." A statement from team general manager Mark Gorski says "the facts will unconditionally support our assertion that the team meets or exceeds all of the standards" set by cycling's governing bodies. Osipow said he couldn't comment specifically on the investigation, since it's now a legal matter. But he said Armstrong's squeaky-clean reputation - and the team's zero-tolerance approach to violations - will prevail in the end. "They're implicating him on his success," Osipow said of Armstrong. Such was the case during the 1999 Tour, when suggestions surfaced in the French media that Armstrong, on his way to his astounding, post-cancer-recovery win, must have been doing something illicit. The line of reasoning went like this: It's barely believable that he's even racing after his cancer ordeal, much less winning.
