    Curriculum Vitae Randal S. Gaulke Battlefield Tour Guide, Historian and Re-enactor 2017 Sabbatical in Doulcon, France • From 15 May to 15 November, 2017, Randal lived and worked as a Freelance tour guide to the American battlefields of WW1. • During this period he led numerous small-group tours; typically showing family members where their grandparents or parents fought. • He also participated in the filming of “A Golden Cross to Bear” (33rd Division, AEF) being produced by filmmaker Kane Farabaugh. o Viewing on various PBS stations in Illinois is planned for Memorial Day 2018. Previous Battlefield Tour Summary • Randal has visited the Western Front more than twenty times between 1986 and 2016. • Much of that time has been spent studying the Meuse-Argonne and St. Mihiel sectors. • Key tour summaries are listed below: --Verdun and Inf. Regt. Nr. 87 Tour, 2013 Randal spent three days leading an individual to the sites where his (German) great uncle fought, including the Verdun battlefield. --Western Front Association, USA Branch, 2007 Battlefield Tour Randal led the second half of the tour; focusing on the Meuse-Argonne and St. Mihiel Sectors. --8th Kuerassier (Reenacting) Regiment Trip to Germany and the Western Front, 2005 This was a five-day tour that followed in the regiment’s footsteps. --Verdun 1999 Tour Randal led participants on a two-day tour of the Verdun 1916 battlefield. --First Western Front Association, USA Branch, Battlefield Tour, 1998 The tour was organized by Tony and Teddy Noyes of UK-based Flanders Tours. Randal and Stephen Matthews provided significant input, US-based marketing, and logistical support to the effort.

How much scrutiny can the two-time Tour de France winner stand? by Michael Hall In May of last year, Lance Armstrong was riding in the Pyrenees, preparing for the upcoming Tour de France. He had just completed the seven-and-a-half-mile ride up Hautacam, a treacherous mountain that rises 4,978 feet above the French countryside. It was 36 degrees and raining, and his team's director, Johan Bruyneel, was waiting with a jacket and a ride back to the training camp. But Lance wasn't ready to go. "It was one of those moments in my life I'll never forget," he told me. "Just the two of us. I said, 'You know what, I don't think I got it. I don't understand it.1 Johan said, 'What do you mean? Of course you got it. Let's go.' I said, 'No, I'm gonna ride all the way down, and I'm gonna do it again.' He was speechless. And I did it again."     I don't know anybody who's made a record that sounds decent in the past 20 years, really. You listen to these modern records, they're atrocious, they have sound all over them. There's no definition of nothing, no vocal, no nothing,… remember when that Napster guy came up across, it was like, ‘Everybody’s gettin’ music for free.’ I was like, ‘Well, why not? It ain’t worth nothing anyway. Bob Dylan 2006 A compilation of bits and Bobs from last 30 years? That'll be $129.99. Sony 2008 --- Introduction: I wrote this very soon after the release of Tell Tale Signs. Although I was presuming ISIS would be delayed in order to allow a more considered take on the release, my own work commitments demanded an early response in any case. I have presented it as a dialogue that highlights – if not exaggerates – trends I have felt in myself and in discussions amongst Dylan fans at large. I have taken the liberty of framing the dialogue in a setting plagiarised brazenly from a classic as Bob does with many an out of copyright source as Dylan Cynic would say or, if you are aligned to Dylan Enthusiast rather than Dylan Cynic, the framework of the dialogue alludes intriguingly to a past literary master in much the same way Dylan binds his own work artistically to Ovid in Modern Times. I won’t mention the play it comes from as the fun is surely always in the searching and then deciding if it is just rip-off or a deeply thought allusion that adds to the whole.

    ERIC CLAPTON BIOGRAFIA Eric Patrick Clapton nasceu em 30/03/1945 em Ripley, Inglaterra. Ganhou a sua primeira guitarra aos 13 anos e se interessou pelo Blues americano de artistas como Robert Johnson e Muddy Waters. Apelidado de Slowhand, é considerado um dos melhores guitarristas do mundo. O reconhecimento de Clapton só começou quando entrou no “Yardbirds”, banda inglesa de grande influência que teve o mérito de reunir três dos maiores guitarristas de todos os tempos em sua formação: Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck e Jimmy Page. Apesar do sucesso que o grupo fazia, Clapton não admitia abandonar o Blues e, em sua opinião, o Yardbirds estava seguindo uma direção muito pop. Sai do grupo em 1965, quando John Mayall o convida a juntar-se à sua banda, os “Blues Breakers”. Gravam o álbum “Blues Breakers with Eric Clapton”, mas o relacionamento com Mayall não era dos melhores e Clapton deixa o grupo pouco tempo depois. Em 1966, forma os “Cream” com o baixista Jack Bruce e o baterista Ginger Baker. Com a gravação de 4 álbuns (“Fresh Cream”, “Disraeli Gears”, “Wheels Of Fire” e “Goodbye”) e muitos shows em terras norte americanas, os Cream atingiram enorme sucesso e Eric Clapton já era tido como um dos melhores guitarristas da história. A banda separa-se no fim de 1968 devido ao distanciamento entre os membros. Neste mesmo ano, Clapton a convite de seu amigo George Harisson, toca na faixa “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” do White Album dos Beatles. Forma os “Blind Faith” em 1969 com Steve Winwood, Ginger Baker e Rick Grech, que durou por pouco tempo, lançando apenas um album.

    A MADONNA WITH GYPSY BLOOD The love ideal in Bob Dylan ’s songs Jan-Hendrik Bakker It was during one of the Poetry International Festivals in the early nineties. Students from the academy for cinematographic art were preparing a documentary about people and their poetic favorites. Their approach was to surprise festival attendees by asking them to recite a poem they knew by heart. Later their recitations would be recorded on video. I still remember it really turned out to be a nice documentary. I happened to become one of their victims. Walt Whitman is my favorite poet, but, unfortunately in this case, I do not know by heart the huge amounts of text that this nineteenth century, bearded bard had produced. So I hesitated for awhile, but after a short time these words came up: Nobody feels any pain,/ tonight as I stand inside the rain/ Everybody knows,/ that baby ’s got new clothes/ but lately I ’ve seen her ribbons and her bows/ have fallen from her curls... One of the young men looked at me as if I had just made a joke. No sorry, this was not what he meant. I said I was sorry too, couldn ’t help it. This kind of poetry is part of my inner system, more than Nijhoff and Hendrik de Vries 1, who, I have to confess, are beautiful poets as well. It must be due to my generation; while others were exposed to the poetry of Jacques Pr évert or Jacques Brel in their childhood days, it was the songs of Bob Dylan, especially his love songs that left their imprints in my blood.
