We herein report five new records of this species from French Guiana extending its range 650 km to the north-east and sug- gesting that D. leali could be much more widely distributed in Amazonia than previously thought. The origin of such a disjunct distribution pattern probably lies in historical fluctuations of the forest cover during the late Tertiary and the Quaternary. Poor understanding of Amazonian species distribution still impedes comprehensive investigation of the processes that have shaped Amazonian megabiodiversity. The first comprehensive phylogenetic analysis of the family Rhacophoridae was conducted by Liem (1970) scoring 81 species for 36 morphological characters. Channing (1989), in a reanalysis of Liem’s study, produced a phylogenetic hypothesis different from that of Liem. We compared the two studies and produced a third phylogenetic hypothesis based on the same characters. We also present the synapomorphic characters from Liem that define the major clades and each genus within the family. Finally, we summarize intergeneric relationships within the family as hypothesized by other studies, and the family’s current status as it relates to other ranoid families. The family Rhacophoridae is comprised of over 200 species of Asian and African tree frogs that have been categorized into 10 genera and two subfamilies (Buergerinae and Rhacophorinae; Duellman, 1993). Buergerinae is a monotypic category that accommodates the relatively small genus Buergeria. The remaining genera, Aglyptodactylus, Boophis, Chirixalus, Chiromantis, Nyctixalus, Philautus, Polyp edates, Rhacophorus, and Theloderma, comprise Rhacophorinae (Channing, 1989). The family is part of the neobatrachian clade Ranoidea, which also includes the families Ranidae, Hyperoliidae, Dendrobatidae, Arthroleptidae, the genus Hemisus, and possibly the family Microhylidae. The Ranoidea clade is distinguished from other neobatrachians by the synapomorphic characters of completely fused epicoracoid cartilages, the medial end of the coracoid being wider than the lateral end, and the insertion of the semitendinosus tendon being dorsal to the m. -

For this reason, a survey o f anurans was conducted in Loboc Watershed, the forest reserve in the island. Different sampling techniques were used. Three transect lines was established and were positioned perpendicular to water bodies parallel to the existing trails. A 10x10 meter quadrat size was established along each transect line. A visual encounter technique was used along each established quadrat and identification was done using a field guide. Fifteen species of anurans were recorded. One species belongs to families Bufonidae (Bufo marinus) and Megophryidae (Megophryis stejnegeri); two to family Microhylidae (Kalophrynus pleurostigma and Kaluola picta); six family Ranidae (Fejervarya cancrivora, Limnonectes leytensis, Limnonectes magnus, Platymantis guentheri, Playmantis corrugatus, and Rana grandocula) and five Rhacophoridae (Nyctixalus spinosus, Polypedates leucomystax leucomystax, Polypedates leucomystax quadrilineatus, Rhacophorus appendiculatus and Rhacoporus pardalis). The disturbed nature of the area still recorded endemic and threatened species. The pathogen infects multiple amphibian hosts, larval and adult cohorts, and may persist in herpetofaunal and oste- ichthyan reservoirs. Environmental persistence of ranavirus virions outside a host may be several weeks or longer in aquatic systems. Transmission occurs by indirect and direct routes, and includes exposure to contaminated water or soil, casual or direct contact with infected individuals, and inges- tion of infected tissue during predation, cannibalism, or necrophagy. Some gross lesions include swelling of the limbs or body, erythema, swollen friable livers, and hemorrhage. Susceptible amphi- bians usually die from chronic cell death in multiple organs, which can occur within a few days fol- lowing infection or may take several weeks. Amphibian species differ in their susceptibility to rana- viruses, which may be related to their co-evolutionary history with the pathogen. The occurrence of recent widespread amphibian population die-offs from ranaviruses may be an interaction of sup- pressed and naïve host immunity, anthropogenic stressors, and novel strain introduction. -

Anuran vocalizations, such as advertisement and release calls, are informative for taxonomy because species recognition can be based on those signals. Thus, a proper acoustic description of the calls may support taxonomic decisions and may contribute to knowledge about amphibian phylogeny. Methods. Here we present a perspective on advertisement call descriptions of the frog subfamily Lophyohylinae, through a literature review and a spatial analysis presenting bioacoustic coldspots (sites with high diversity of species lacking advertisement call descriptions) for this taxonomic group. Additionally, we describe the advertisement and release calls of the still poorly known treefrog, Itapotihyla langsdorffii. Anuran Diversity Distribution Patterns in Lower Dibang Valley of Arunachal Pradesh, India
Herpetology Notes, volume 11: 781-789 (2018) (published online on 27 September 2018) Anuran diversity distribution patterns in Lower Dibang Valley of Arunachal Pradesh, India Jayanta K. Roy1,2*, Ramie H. Begum1, and M. Firoz Ahmed2 Abstract. The present study was conducted to estimate the anuran species diversity distribution patterns at Lower Dibang Valley with respect to secondary habitat conservation. Time-constrained Visual Encounter Surveys (VES) were conducted for amphibians followed with opportunistic observations during the study period. We compared the species diversity from three land use/land cover types that explained the available habitats and the importance of secondary forest in recolonizing anuran species during the course of study. Interestingly, anuran diversity measured from secondary/abandoned jhum and primary forest areas were found to be relatively equal (Shannon index; H: 2.77 and 2.76). The highest percentage of unique species was recorded from primary forest followed by secondary/abundant jhum and agriculture/settlement areas. However, secondary/abandoned jhum areas provided refuge for most anuran species normally inhabiting primary forest. We found beneficial human interaction along with secondary succession for creating habitat heterogeneity in secondary/abundant forest; and thus supports maximum anuran breeding habitats and species diversity in secondary/abundant jhum areas. Hence, secondary/abundant habitats were also important for anuran habitat conservation along with primary forest. We reported four new distribution records from Arunachal Pradesh: Nanorana chayuensis, Hydrophylax leptoglossa, Odorrana chloronota and Theloderma moloch. Keywords.
