SUWANNEE COUNTY — A Luraville man faces charges of second-degree mur- der after allegedly stabbing his mother to death on Monday. According to Suwannee County Sherif f’s Of fice, Kenneth Hooker, 44, stabbed his mother, Rose Lawson, in the chest with a small fold- ing knife but did not call for medical assis- tance. Lawson died as a result of her wound. Hooker Police responded to the house as a result of a concerned call from Hooker’s sister, the sheriff’s report said. Hooker informed the responding officer that he stabbed his mother during an argument “because he wanted her to listen to him.” Suwannee County Sheriff Tony DEREK GILLIAM/Lake City Reporter Cameron said this wasn’t the first time Lake City Fire Department Firefigher Scott Hale tests a 1 3/4-inch hose on the Ladder 1 fire engine Wendesday. ANOTHER VIEW Senate legislation would threaten public access to foreclosure notices egislation moving in the Florida Senate (SB 1666) this year would make major changes to how bank foreclosures are noticed. These changes could be detrimental to many citizens, as we haveL yet to overcome the digital divide, which disenfranchises large facets of Floridians, and the change proposed in this bill to house the second public notice of foreclosure on the Internet would greatly diminish access to this critical informa- tion. Florida law requires that the first and second notices of foreclosures be printed in newspapers. And effective in July, notices also will be required to be posted on the newspapers’ websites. Moreover, since July 1, 2012, Florida’s newspa- pers have been required to post their notices to www.floridapublicnotices.com.
