We have vast experience operating in Cape Town and are a preferred supplier for such premier locations as the V&A Waterfront. We have recently expanded our area of operation to include Johannesburg. Our Background EventSafe was founded by George Skazikis, who has been in the security industry since 1989. He started as a dog handler and eventually founded his own company, Eventsec, in 1996. Eventsec provided security for the Baxter Theatre and for events such as the launch of eTV, the opening of Planet Hollywood, the launch of Virgin Atlantic, the Getaway Show, Homemakers Faire, Computer Faire, J&B Met after party and all Ajax Cape Town home matches. George sold Eventsec in 2001 and moved to the UK to gain experience in the European market. On his return to South Africa in 2004, George co-founded Amanzi Blue Event Staffing Solutions - now a market leader in the industry. EventSafe was soon born when George saw a need in the events industry for a security company supplying more than just security guards. Excellent training ensures that EventSafe staff can offer a better, more effective service to clients. There was also a natural progression to offering static guarding services alongside the event offering. 3 Partnership with SSG Events In 2012, EventSafe partnered with SSG Events to create SSG EventSafe. Together, the two firms have decades of shared eventing and personal protection experience. SSG Events is the eventing division of Specialised Services Group (SSG), South Africa's largest private security and related services organisation with 12 separate divisions including SSG Forensics, SSG Tactical, SSG Credit Management and SSG Warehousing. The new company is headed up by CEO Gert Olivier, MD George Skazikis and National Operations Director Erwin Law. Our area of expertise ranges from large stadium events to the more intimate, boutique-style corporate functions demanding a great deal of sophistication. 4 Our Services EventSafe specialises in providing safety and security solutions to the special events industry (e.g. exhibitions, conferences, concerts, shows, sporting events, close protection). We also offer protection services for your company and premises. We offer security solutions and event safety management through the following services: Security Officer Security Supervisor Supervisor MIB (Guest Relations Officer) Site Manager Safety Officer Safety Plan Event Permit Application Liquor License Application BDM Application Contractor Audit We are also able to tailor-make interventions that are customised to your needs. For example: We can provide our security officers with training in specific skills as required to comply with event requirements. We can create specialised training modules for specific events or venues, so that our security officers are extremely familiar with all details and are prepared for any eventuality. All our interventions are aligned to the International standards of ISO 9001:2000; BSI OHSAS 18001/1 & ISO 14001 for portability and international compliance. 5 1. Security Solutions 1.1. Objectives Our objectives and those of our officers can be summed up as the four P’s: Protection of life Protection of property and premises Prevention of loss and waste Prevention of crime 1.2. Team We know that security staff are the public face of an event, and are often required to manage a variety of requests and incidents with the utmost diplomacy and the least possible disruption to the event. When we recruit EventSafe team members, we look for candidates who are courteous, well presented and well spoken, intelligent, resourceful and pleasant to deal with. Through ongoing management interaction, we develop these characteristics as well as specific client services skills. At EventSafe we place great emphasis on uniform, both in design and quality. In a society that often judges by first impressions, members of the public will make a connection between professionalism and appearance. A security officer who feels proud wearing a uniform that looks and feels good will perform better. We specialise in looking after highly sensitive areas and events, where security have to be trusted to interact with high profile individuals as well as members of the public. We are not there to just do access control, we are there to look after an event and our clients can trust us with high value items. Experience has taught us that well paid and motivated individuals are worth the additional cost. This is especially true when looking after sensitive areas such as backstage and artists’ dressing rooms. 6 1.3. Compliance EventSafe is registered with PSIRA (Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority), with Workman’s Compensation, and adheres to the statutory code of conduct applicable to all security providers. EventSafe exceeds the minimum statutory wages applicable in terms of the Sectoral Determination Act for the private security industry. Our clients can therefore rest assured that they cannot be held liable for using a security company which is not compliant. 1.4. Team Training All our EventSafe officers are fully qualified in accordance with industry requirements. Spruijt, formally awarded, on 2 November 2010, in Istanbul the 2010 IPA Freedom to Publish Prize to Israpil Shovkhalov, Editor-in-Chief, and Viktor Kogan-Yasny, publisher of the Dosh Magazine for their exemplary courage in upholding freedom to publish. Dosh is a Chechen Human Rights magazine. The Award Ceremony took place during the 29th Istanbul Book Fair. A special Award was also given to Turkish publisher Irfan Sanci (Sel Yayıncılık). The very day of his award, an Istanbul court, ignoring a previous decison of the European Court of Human Rights, decided to keep suing him for publishing a translation of Apollinaire. He faces up to 9 years in prison. The next hearing is due on 7 December 2010. The Board of the IPA, meeting in Frankfurt on 6 October 2010, had selected Israpil Shovkhalov, Editor-in-Chief, and Viktor Kogan-Yasny, publisher of the Chechen Human Rights Magazine Dosh, as Prize-winners from among many highly commendable candidates. This year’s Award was formally presented on 2 November 2010 by IPA President Herman P. Spruijt during the 29 th Istanbul Book Fair, in an event marking the end of the international days of the Fair.

Advisor: David Carr Abstract Traditional book donation programs are a favored method for North American clubs, service groups, libraries and individuals to help rural African community and school libraries. This study draws together book gifts and donations literature of North American and African librarians to discover whether traditional book donations from North America to Africa fulfill the needs of recipients of the aid. The theories of sustainable development and appropriate technology are used to examine African information needs and donated books are considered in terms of relevance, condition, language and reading level, and cultural appropriateness. Using this lens it is found that used book donations are not useful and may in fact do damage to libraries and literacy in developing countries. Several practical alternatives are suggested as replacement for traditional book donations.
