INDOOR CRICKET OVERVIEW

Indoor Cricket is played by over 160,000 Australians and is played throughout many parts of the world. It is a vital format for in its objective of Cricket being “Australia’s favourite sport – a sport for all Australian’s”. A key pillar of the Australian cricket strategy is to “Produce the best teams, players and officials in the world” with the ambition of being #1 in all formats of the game for both males and females and develop teams and players that inspire the nation. The respective Open Men’s and Open Women’s indoor cricket teams are both currently ranked # 1 in the world with both teams having never lost a event (Men – all 9 World Cup events since 1995 and Women – all 8 World Cup events since 1998). All four junior teams also won their respective divisions at the recent WICF Junior World Series held in in Sept/Oct 2015 (Under 18 Boys, Under 18 Girls, Under 16 Boys & Under 14 Boys).

Indoor Cricket has been played by some of Australia’s best outdoor cricketers as part of their pathway to elite cricket – including Steve & , , Michael Clarke, Stephen Smith, , Ryan Harris, , Belinda Clark, , Sarah Coyte, Kristen Beams etc. Indoor cricket is firmly placed within the Cricket Australia - Australian Cricket Pathway and is receiving increasing levels of support from Cricket Australia and State Associations to ensure its ongoing success as a vital format of the game.

POSITIONS SUMMARY

The new positions reflect the growing need for continuous improvement in the area of high performance for indoor cricket. With many talented outdoor players also playing in elite indoor competitions (and vice versa) and a desire to continue to raise the bar internationally, it is vital that the elite indoor coaching structure supports the development of players.

With demonstrated ability in developing high quality players and teams, within a framework of a ‘team-first” / quality culture environment, this position will play a pivotal role in ensuring this team is reflective of the spirit and ethos of all Australian cricket teams.

Coaches will need to be familiar with Cricket Australia’s – Australian Cricket Pathway, including “the Australian Way”. The successful applicants will:

 have a collaborative, innovative and flexible approach and understand that effective communication and team work is the key to building successful Australian teams; &  need to commit to achieving a Level 2 – Representative Coach Accreditation level before the start of the 2016 Australian Open (or as close to this time as possible). Cricket Australia will fully subsidise the course fees for all successful applicants.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED (all roles)  Coaching / Playing experience at Premier/Grade level or higher (outdoor) and/or State/National level (indoor) and a history of successfully developing players  Minimum Representative Coaching Accreditation (level 2/representative) required. If not in place at the time of this appointment, this minimum requirement will need to be met within six (6) months of appointment.  Preferably have a playing background in indoor cricket at State, National or International tournament level as well as experience in mentoring / education of individuals and/or cricket talent identification

KEY SKILLS (all roles) • Strong communication, interpersonal and management skills are required. The primary focus will be assisting in the development of players to help Australia win any international events that Australia participates in with a complimentary focus on the seamless pathway of junior players in to the National Open team. • Develop effective working relationships with State / Territory (“S/T”) indoor coaches, to ensure player objectives are met in the lead up to and following national duties.

REPORTING LINES (all roles) The positions reports to the Cricket Australia Manager, Indoor Cricket (currently Paul Milo) with a dotted line reporting to both the Cricket Australia Indoor Cricket High Performance Coach (currently Ross Gregory) and the Cricket Australia High Performance Coach Development Manager (currently Darren Holder).

GENERAL (all roles)  Australian teams must be viewed as positive ambassadors for the sport & CA at all times  Police Check will be required  Maintain confidentiality concerning the exercise of all duties.  Abide by the following CA codes and policies (as found on the Cricket Australia website) including (but limited to):  Code of Behaviour  Racial and religious vilification code  Anti-Harassment policy

IMPORTANT It is the preference that appointed Australian Team Coaches and Specialist Coaches are not concurrently a S/T Team Coach for that specific indoor cricket division. This is due to both the workload requirements for this role and the need for impartiality whilst carrying out Australian team coaching duties. This is not imperative, however is preferred. N.B.: These positions are honorary roles, with Cricket Australia funding event flights, accommodation, hire car/petrol, relevant apparel and a daily allowance whilst on official duty.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES – TEAM COACHES (x 4)

N.B.: Given the expanded role, the Four Team Coach positions will ideally be independent of state obligations for the Australian Indoor Open Championships e.g. it is preferred that the Australian Open Ladies is not also concurrently a State / Territory Open Womens coach.

Australian Indoor Open Championships – (June 11 – June 18, ) In respect to the event, key responsibilities will be:

Prior to the event (4 weeks prior) o Review on-line Cricket Australia Athlete Management System (A.M.S.) player and/or state coaches entries regarding Australian players on the system regarding workload, injuries, issues etc. in advance of the tournament and discuss any relevant matters with players and/or state coaches (N.B.: System training to be provided). o In conjunction with the CA and the 2 Specialist Coaches, develop: . Written confirmation of key attributes & skills that selectors will be looking for from your respective team in the Trans-Tasman series to guide the selection of the squad for the Trans-Tasman event & . Written player development paper outlining requirements of the Australian team (all players) in advance of the Trans-Tasman Series (broad training, fitness, well-being initiatives / requirements etc.)

During the event (7 days) o Be the Chairman of Selectors for the relevant Australian team (other selectors will be the CA High Performance Coach and 2 Specialist Coaches). This will include: . Meeting with each State Coach to discuss individual players who may be under consideration and what you would like to see such players do during the Carnival to give them the best chance for selection . Attendance at the CA Indoor Cricket Open Coaching seminar including a brief overview to State / Territory coaches highlighting selection priorities for Australian squad players . Watching numerous matches / players during the Carnival to form an informed position of players for adequate squad selection . Meet with the selection group daily to discuss the potential squad and ultimately select the Australian squad for the Trans-Tasman Series

Post the event (within 2 weeks following the event) . Discussion with Selection group in respect to the individual training / development plans for Australian players selected . Include written ratings/feedback on selected Australian players and a minimum of 10 “fringe” players in the on-line Cricket Australia “Athlete Management System” (N.B.: System training to be provided) . Contact each State / Territory Coach to discuss:  how Australian selected players can be supported in advance of the Trans-Tasman series & recommended ongoing development work for such players; &  players who missed selection in respect to what areas that they could improve to assist their on-going development

Trans-Tasman Series v NZ – (4 matches. September, Friday 9th – Sunday 11th)

N.B.: The venue is TBC at the time of this application, however will be based in Australia - either Qld, NSW, ACT, Vic or Tas).

In respect to the event, key responsibilities will be:

Prior to the event o Work with the appointed Team Manager, Specialist Coaches and Cricket Australia Indoor Cricket Representatives to ensure that all plans are in place. o Review on-line Cricket Australia Athlete Management System (A.M.S.) player and/or state coaches entries regarding player workload, injuries, issues etc. in advance of the tournament and discuss any relevant matters with players / state coaches

During the event (3 days of the event plus 3-6 days before the event) o Head Coach of the Team. . Working closely with the CA High Performance Coach, Specialist Coaches and Team Manager to achieve success on the court – whilst ensuring a quality and positive environment / culture remains a priority. Ensuring that the team is seen as strong ambassadors for Australian cricket is extremely important.

Post the event (within 2 weeks following the event) o Constructive feedback provided to all squad members regarding their performances and areas for on-going development – verbal and via the A.M.S. system. o Provide direct feedback to all state coaches about the feedback to players (including areas for on-going development) o Provide written feedback about all squad members within the Cricket Australia A.M.S. system (from players themselves and state or other coaches) o Provide a written report to Cricket Australia about the event to assist in on-going opportunities to improve the events

Australian Indoor Open Championships – (June 11 – June 18, Melbourne)

In respect to the event, key responsibilities will be:

Prior to the event (4 weeks prior) o In conjunction with the CA High Performance Coach and 2 Specialist Coaches, develop: . Written confirmation of key attributes & skills that you will be looking for from your respective team in the Trans-Tasman series to guide the selection of the squad for the World Cup & . Written player development paper outlined requirements of the Australian team (all players) in advance of the World Cup (broad training, fitness, well- being initiatives / requirements etc.)

During the event (7 days) o Be the Chairman of Selectors for the relevant Australian team (other selectors will be the CA High Performance Coach and 2 Specialist Coaches). This will include: . In respect to the event, key responsibilities will be:

Prior to the event o Work with appointed Team Manager, Specialist Coaches and Cricket Australia Indoor Cricket Representatives to ensure that all plans are in place. o Review on-line Cricket Australia Athlete Management System (A.M.S.) player entries regarding workload, injuries, issues in advance of the tournament etc. and discuss any relevant matters with players / state coaches

During the event (14 days – including travel and 7 day tournament) o Head Coach of the Team. . Working closely with the CA High Performance Coach, Specialist Coaches and Team Manager to achieve success on the court – whilst ensuring a quality and positive environment / culture is maintained. Ensuring that the team is seen as strong ambassadors for Australian cricket is extremely important

Post the event (within 2 weeks following the event) o Constructive feedback provided to all squad members regarding their performances and areas for on-going development – verbal and via the A.M.S. o Provide direct feedback to all state coaches about the feedback to players (including areas for on-going development) o Provide a written report to Cricket Australia about the event to assist in on-going opportunities to improve the events

Meeting with each State Coach to discuss individual players who may be under consideration and what you would like to see such players do during the Carnival to give them the best chance for selection . Attendance at the CA Indoor Cricket Open Coaching seminar including a brief overview to State / Territory coaches highlighting selection priorities for Australian squad players from a batting or bowling/fielding perspective . Watching numerous matches / players during the Carnival to form an informed position of players for adequate squad selection . During the event (7 days) o Assist in the selection of the all-star team in accordance with the criteria in place at the time. o This will include: . Attendance at the CA Indoor Cricket Junior Coaching seminar including a brief overview to State / Territory coaches highlighting selection priorities for Australian squad players from a batting or bowling/fielding perspective . Watching numerous matches / players during the Carnival to form an informed position of players for adequate squad selection . Meet with the selection group daily to discuss the potential squad and ultimately help select the all-star team

Post the event (within 2 weeks following the event) . Discussion with selection group in respect to the individual training / development plans for all-star players selected .
