INTERNATIONAL GUITAR STARS AS MEMBERS OF THE CURATORSHIP OF THE HERRMANN HAUSER GUITAR FOUNDATION PERSONAL REACTIONS TO THE WEB-SITE WWW.HAUSERGUITARS.COM AND TO THE PROCLAMATION OF THE HERRMANN HAUSER GUITAR FOUNDATION SURVEY OF COUNTRIES OF THE VISITORS OF THE WEB-SITE WWW.HAUSERGUITARS.COM INTERNATIONAL GUITAR STARS AS MEMBERS OF THE CURATORSHIP OF THE HERRMANN HAUSER GUITAR FOUNDATION Pepe Romero Guitarist Pepe Romero, celebrated worldwide for his exciting interpretations and his flawless technique, is permanently asked for as a solo guitar player and as a guitarist with orchestra. His contributions to the area of classical guitar have inspired a couple of reputable composers to write music especially for him, including Joaquín Rodrigo, Federico Moreno Torroba, Rev. Francisco de Madina, Lorenzo Palomo and Celedonio Romero. Born on March 8, 1944 in Malaga, Spain, Pepe Romero is the second son of the "Royal Guitar Family", the Romeros. His father, legendary Celedonio Romero, was his only guitar teacher. His first professional performance was a concert he played together with his father. He was only seven years old then. On his current record, Songs My Father Taught Me, he plays his father´s favorite compositions. Shortly, several Boccherini Quintets for guitar and string quartet, recorded for UNICEF, will be released. A new transcription for guitar of the Música nocturna de Madrid will be amongst them. One of his last solo recordings is a brilliant performance of opera phantasies for guitar. A recording with „I Musici“ was finished in summer 1991, and in spring 1992 he recorded Concierto de Aranjuez and selected pieces of music of Joaquín Rodrigo to laser disc, together with Neville Marriner and the Academy-of-St.-Martin-in-the-Fields. He also played a decisive role in the documentary Shadows And Light: Rodrigo At 90, which received various prizes, e.g. at the Chicago International Film Festival, the International Emmy Awards and the San Francisco International Film Festival. At the moment his discographie comprises more than 50 recordings, among them more than 20 concerts with the Academy of St. Martin-in-the-Fields, conducted by Sir Neville Marriner and Iona Brown. Furthermore, he revitalised and premiered main works of composers like Fernando Sor, Mauro Giuliani, Francesco Molino, Fernando Carulli, Johann Kaspar Mertz, Luigi Boccherini and others. In 1983 Joaquín Rodrigo wrote his last guitar concert for Pepe Romero: Concierto para una fiesta. It was recorded by the Philips label. Andres Segovia and composer Federico Moreno Torroba chose Pepe Romero to record the world premiere of Diálogos entre guitarra y orquesta; originally this piece of music had been written for Segovia. In January 1996, Nocturnos de Andalucia, composed by Lorenzo Palomo and coducted by Rafael Frübeck de Burgos, was premiered in Berlin. Also in 1996, after his father Celedonio had died, he played the world premiere of his father´s concert for guitar and orchestra El Cortijo de Don, with Michael Palmer conducting the American Sinfonietta. His Majesty King Juan Carlos I of Spain dubbed Pepe Romero and his brothers Celin and Angel knight of the order "Isabel la Catolica". The official ceremony for this great honor took place at the University of Southern California on February 11, 2000, where the Romeros played a gala concert. Pepe Romero also received the "Premio Andalucia de Müsica", his country´s highest award for contributing to art. He is honorary doctor of music at the University of Victoria, British Columbia. In the USA, Pepe Romero performed as a soloist with the symphony orchestras of Philadelphia, Cleveland, Chicago, Houston, Pittsburgh, Boston, San Francisco and Dallas as well as the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, the New York and Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchstras, the Boston Pops Orchestra, and the London Symphony Orchestra. In Europe and Great Britain he performed with the Academy of St. Martin-in-the-Fields, the Monte Carlo Philharmonic Orchstra, I Musici, the Zurich Chamber Orchestra, the Philharmonia Hungarica, the Hungarian State Orchstra, the Spanish National Orchstra, the Spanish National Broadcasting Orchstra, L'Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, the New Moscow Chamber Orchestra, the Lausanne Chamber Orchestra, the American Sinfonietta and the Bournemouth Symphony Orchester. He was invited to be special guest at the festivals of Salzburg, Israel, Schleswig-Holstein, Menuhin, Osaka, Granada, Istanbul, Ravinia, Garden State, Hollywood Bowl, Blossom, Wolf Trap and Saratoga. Together with his father and his brothers Pepe Romero assisted in establishing the Romeros Quartet to be the leading classic guitar ensemble worldwide. As a member of the Romeros, he was invited to play at the White House. Furthermore he played for Pope Johannes Paul II. at the Vatikan as well as for his Royal Highness Prince Charles, Prince of Wales, King Juan Carlos I and Queen Sophía of Spain, and Queen Beatrice of Holland. Pepe Romero spends time on his many students and winners of international guitar contests and passes on to them his knowledge about the guitar. He was a guitar professor at various universities and instructed annual master classes at the Salzburg Summer Academy, the Schleswig-Holstein Festival and the Córdoba Guitar Festival. PERSONAL REACTIONS TO THE WEB-SITE WWW.HAUSERGUITARS.COM AND TO THE PROCLAMATION OF THE HERRMANN HAUSER GUITAR FOUNDATION I'm happy to find myself in your Home page. It' quite nice of you to put my article there. Please give me a little time to contribute onto your pages. I will receive your invitation to become a member of the curatorship for "Hermann Hauser Guitar Foundation". I would be very glad about future co-operation in the Foundation and I consent with your proposal. Give my best regards to Mr.Wildner. He has made beautiful pages. Congratulations, Akinobu Matsuda Thank you for publishing my research paper on the Hauser web site. I am a guitar maker and performer. It is my dream to visit the Hauser workshop. I recently purchased a 1998 Hauser guitar. I have about 300+ photos from my research into the Hauser guitar. Mr. Hauser has had a big influence on my guitar making even though we have never met. To date I have made over 60 guitars, but I currently build a Hauser replica based on my research. It is so close to the original. I love your web site. One of my favorites. It would be interesting to see photos of the steps of construction. One of the things I'm curious about is if he uses a mold when building the guitars. Regards, David Schramm Your new site is very nice and very informative. I was thinking what to add to it and in my opinion you could put on your site something about Mario Escudero. He was very famous flamenco guitarist, composer and teacher and remains forever legend of flamenco guitar music. It is really very interesting that Escudero was playing flamenco on guitars made by your grandfather - Hermann Hauser I. At that time it was something extraordinary. Of course Escudero had many instruments but Hauser's was his favorites. Regards, Andrzej Glowacki It looks a very nice website. We would like you to add our homepage address in your website as the store which sells your new guitars if possible. In the next year, we will have the Hauser Guitars Fair II at our store. Please cooperate to us and prepare many guitars for us. Best regards, Tomo Kurosawa I’m very happy to be part of the Hauser Foundation. Of course I’ll participate and support the foundation, count with me as a guitarist, and with the Guitar Festival and the Baja California Orchestra. I’m sure that the Foundation will be a great opportunity for all guitarists and a big impulse to young luthiers. Let me know what are the following steps in the Houser Guitar Foundation, and count with me 100%. Best Regards, Roberto Limón I wanted to add my congratulations! and best wishes for your "official" website. It really is Great! I hope all is well with everyone and you have a wonderful summer. Best Regards, Steven Decker Your new Homepage is a wonderful representation of your family's life work. Congratulations! I'm sure it took a tremendous amount of work to create. I have told many of my students and friends about it. Sincerely yours, Francis Perry I am very happy to hear from you and I like the idea of the Hauser Guitar Foundation very much – helping out the world of the guitar, continuing the name of Hermann Hauser Guitars.
