SPOTLIGHT ON… THE ROTARY CLUB OF HAWORTH & WORTH VALLEY

A planned auction the Rotary Club of Haworth & Worth Valley are organising on Saturday 27th June at Haworth Methodist Hall will raise funds for a swing in Haworth Park and hopefully another in Cross Roads Park. The swings, which will be suitable for a child with a disability, will cost around £600 each so hopefully we will get lots of items to sell! Items such as jewellery, ceramics, collectables, small items of furniture, books and curios. Viewing will commence at 10am with the auction following at 1pm. Refreshments will be available to purchase all day. The photos show some of the goods we have already received to sell but we need more! If you have anything you wish or are able to donate please contact Janet Barbour on Keighley 01535 272081. Keep checking our Facebook page for further updates of the items we will be auctioning - The Rotary Club of Haworth & Worth Valley. The Rotary club, which was formed in 1999, has constantly tried to help and support local projects around Haworth. In recent years just some of the local causes we have supported include Scout groups, Community Responders, Schools, Marie Curie Cancer Care and Manorlands Hospice. We also continue to raise funds and awareness for many national and international programmes such as Shelterbox, Aquabox and Mary's Meals. To enable us to continue our good work in the local community we are looking out for people who would like to join the Rotary Club of Haworth & Worth Valley. If you are interested and would like further information about this active group please contact Mark Tims on 01756 799128.

18 3 CHAIRMAN’S PIECE Now that the 2015 Election process is complete it’s time to take stock of where the Haworth Village Hall and Community Hub Parish Council currently stands and what it’s trying to achieve. Both are important as Over the past few months there have been a number of changes at the building we see ’s role in all our lives being changed by an ever-diminishing budget formerly known as the Community Centre. 15 6 Please Think Of Other Road Users Pictured below are a collection of drivers caught whilst using their mobile phones on the District’s roads. Officers from the Anti-social Vehicle Team have witnessed these drivers in the act with no lawful excuses. The Police officers are equipped with helmet mounted cameras and also have a good view from being sat higher than most drivers in their vehicles. From a safety point of view, your attention is significantly reduced when you are either texting, interacting with your phone or making a call with the device to your ear as your view is then greatly reduced and increases the risk of a collision. Maybe not seeing a cyclist, pedestrian or other road user. From a legal point of view, you can expect penalty points on your driving licence and a fine for the offence. Depending on the circumstances, it could also be seen as driving without Due Care and attention or careless driving under the Road Traffic Act. Unfortunately, more and more drivers can be seen using their phones whilst driving. Unless it’s an emergency and you have to contact the emergency services then there is no excuse for being caught using your mobile devices whilst driving. Please think before you pick up your phone for use. Even if you’re temporarily held in stationary traffic with the engine running you still commit the offence. PC Hudson commented “It’s not all about prosecutions with regards to this offence, the majority of people that have been spoken to have had warnings issued. It’s about getting people to understand that it’s dangerous. We see drivers in these circumstances on a regular basis whilst on patrol on the bikes. When it’s recorded on video it’s hard to say you weren’t actually on your phone. Please don’t risk your own safety and the safety of others around you by using your phone. We can and will prosecute drivers if seen committing this offence. It’s your choice.” PLEASE SEE THE FLYER IN THIS Please drive responsibly at all times and consider the safety of others using the roads. NEWSLETTER FOR AN ENTRY FORM

Friends of Central Park Haworth Regular Meetings are now being held on the second Tuesday of the month at Parkside Social Club, Butt Lane, Haworth at 7.30pm. After the meeting this is a good place for a pint and a natter with friends. All interested in the future of the Park are welcome to attend to meet other ‘Friends’ and join discussions of future plans and events. We are in the process of forming a new committee. Present committee members were heavily involved in delivering the Bandstand project and wish to hand over the reins to new ‘blood’. In other words your Park needs you. Memory Garden This project has been instigated by The Friends of the Park in partnership with Bradford Council in response to the necessary halt to the placing of Memorials and non indigenous plants on Penistone Hill and around the village. This has identified a need for somewhere for people to place their memories of loved ones and as we had a spare corner of the Park where the old plant nursery garden used to be, the Worth Valley District Councilors found some funding to start to develop what is going to be a joint LIVE A HEALTHIER, MORE FULFILLING LIFE Community led project to create a Memory Garden.
