TRIP to HAWORTH - Saturday 19Th November 2016 COMMITTEE FOR FOREIGN ASSISTANTS IN WEST YORKSHIRE TRIP TO HAWORTH - Saturday 19th November 2016 This trip will be led by Peter Lodge and Dominique Lodge (FLAC members). You will need to make your own way to Haworth and to the Brontë Parsonage Museum (https://www.bronte.org.uk/). Peter and Dominique will meet you at 11:00 at the shop round the back of the museum. You will then have a guided walk (free of charge) around this typical Yorkshire village, followed by a visit to the Parsonage Museum, the home of the Brontë sisters (and brother!). Entrance to the museum will be £5.50 (discounted group rate) - please give your money to Peter Lodge on arrival, so he can pay the museum in one lump sum. You will then have free time to have lunch and wander round this typical Yorkshire village, which has a wonderful range of little independent shops and a thriving vintage scene, with several excellent vintage boutiques. The trip also coincides with the Haworth Steam Punk Weekend, with street entertainers and interesting costumes on display! There is no need to pay anything in advance for this trip, but if you wish to attend please let us know by emailing [email protected], so we can let the Parsonage know the size of the group visiting the museum. TRAVEL INFORMATION (don’t forget to allow extra time in case of queues or delays) To get to Haworth, you first need to get to Keighley, which is pronounced “Keith-Lee”! An ‘Adult Train & Bus DayRover’ costs £8 and will cover your train to Keighley and bus to Haworth (cheaper than individual tickets) and any other bus and train journeys within West Yorkshire that day. You can buy these at Travel Centres at bus and train stations. Getting to Keighley Railway Station (from Leeds or Bradford) by train: There are regular trains from Leeds (3 direct trains per hour, 26-minute journey) and Bradford Forster Square (2 direct trains per hour, 21-minute journey) to Keighley Railway Station. Go to www.thetrainline.com to check times. It is then a 10-minute walk from Keighley Railway Station to Keighley Bus Station. Getting to Haworth (from Keighley Bus Station) by bus: There are buses from Keighley Bus Station to Haworth Railway Station every 20 minutes: the 500 bus leaves Keighley at 10:05 (arriving Haworth at 10:18) and the 664 bus leaves Keighley at 10:25 (arriving Haworth at 10:38). See www.keighleybus.co.uk for full timetables. Haworth Railway Station is a 10-15 minute walk (uphill!) to the Parsonage Museum. At the end of the day you can then return from Haworth to Keighley by bus, or experience a journey on the steam train back to Keighley (£5.50 single ticket). The latest steam train leaves Haworth at 15:36 (arriving Keighley 15:55), but the buses run until late evening. .
