TRAVEL TO DUNDEE BY TRAIN Dundee is on the main East Coast route with direct services to: • Newcastle, • Oxford, • York, • Bristol, • London, • Reading, • Carlisle, • Southampton, • Preston, • Bournemouth • Coventry, • Plymouth. • Birmingham, Overnight sleeper services run from London, the south coast and the West Country. Rail journeys from the other major cities in Scotland (Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Glasgow Queen Street) take approximately 75 minutes. The regular service from London King's Cross takes only six hours. The railway station is only a few minutes’ walk from the University campus and a number of hotels in the city centre. Dundee is served by trains from Scotrail, Virgin Trains East Coast, Cross Country and Caledonian Sleeper. For times and tickets visit their websites or check National Rail Enquiries 03457 48 49 50. BY CAR For traffic coming from Edinburgh (M90), Glasgow (A9) and beyond, Dundee is best approached from the south via the A90. From the outskirts of Dundee the route into the University and the Medical School is well signposted and easy to follow. From the North, Dundee is best approached via the A90. BY AIR Dundee airport is 3 miles to the west of the city centre (only five minutes drive from the University). Taxis are available at the airport, and car hire may be pre-arranged. There is a choice of short and long stay parking available including disabled parking. There are scheduled flights to and from London Stansted with FlyBe. Services are available to major cities throughout the UK including London. Dundee's main bus station is on Seagate, approximately 10 minutes’ walk from the main University of Dundee campus. Edinburgh's main bus station is on St Andrews Square and Waterloo Place. This is a two minute walk from Waverley Railway Station. Glasgow's Buchanan Street bus station is a five minute walk from Queen Street Railway station. BY SEA Dundee is 3 hours from the European ferry terminals at Newcastle. Travelling by sea from Northern Ireland to Scotland has never been easier. There are up to nine crossings a day from Belfast to Stranraer with Stena Line's high speed ferries.     Stakeholder Briefing Document, InterCity West Coast Re-Franchising MAY 2011 1 Consultation Process The Department is grateful to all the organisations and individuals who took the time and effort to respond to this consultation, and to those who attended the consultation events. Their valuable comments and suggestions have been considered and are summarised in this report. The Department has endeavoured, in good faith, to produce a synopsis of each response received. These are tabulated at Appendix B. Any significant omission or incorrect emphasis is entirely unintentional. Bidders for the franchise will have access to all consultation responses submitted. The consultation document for the proposed InterCity West Coast franchise was issued by the Department on the 19th of January 2011, and closed on the 21st of April 2011. The consultation gave details of the proposed specification for the new franchise, and posed a number of questions to consultees. The closed consultation document can be found at: http://www.dft.gov.uk/consultations/closed/ 325 local authorities, agencies (such as the Office of Rail Regulation), user groups and rail industry stakeholders (including Passenger Focus) were formally consulted and were sent electronic copies of the consultation document. No formal ‘hard copy’ document was produced for this consultation exercise as part of the Department’s overall drive for efficiency savings. In addition the document was posted on the DfT website and a press notice released. All MPs with one or more stations in their Constituency served by the current franchise were also sent a copy of the consultation document and copies were also placed in the House of Commons library.

    A REPUTATION FOR EXCELLENCE Volume 3: Dundee and Perth Introduction A History of the Dundee and Perth Printing Industries, is the third booklet in the series A Reputation for Excellence; others are A History of the Edinburgh Printing Industry (1990) and A History of the Glasgow Printing Industry (1994). The first of these gives a brief account of the advent of printing to Scotland: on September 1507 a patent was granted by King James IV to Walter Chepman and Andro Myllar ‘burgessis of our town of Edinburgh’. At His Majesty’s request they were authorised ‘for our plesour, the honour and profitt of our realme and liegis to furnish the necessary materials and capable workmen to print the books of the laws and other books necessary which might be required’. The partnership set up business in the Southgait (Cowgate) of Edinburgh. From that time until the end of the seventeenth century royal patents were issued to the trade, thus confining printing to a select number. Although there is some uncertainty in establishing precisely when printing began in Dundee, there is evidence that the likely date was around 1547. In that year John Scot set up the first press in the town, after which little appears to have been done over the next two centuries to develop and expand the new craft. From the middle of the eighteenth century, however, new businesses were set up and until the second half of the present century Dundee was one of Scotland's leading printing centres. Printing in Perth began in 1715, with the arrival there of one Robert Freebairn, referred to in the Edinburgh booklet.

On 5 July 2002 the Commission received a notification of a proposed concentration pursuant to Article 4 of Council Regulation (EEC) No. 4064/89, whereby The Peninsular and Oriental Steam Navigation Company (P&O) would acquire full control over P&O Stena Line (Holdings) Limited (“P&OSL), in which P&O already has 60% of the share capital, and Stena Line (UK) Limited (“Stena Line UK”) has 40%. P&O is a UK listed parent company of a diversified group with interests including international container terminal operations, ferry services for freight and passengers, logistics and cargo shipping.
