ABSTRACT This article presents both ethnoentomological notes on Nahuatl and Mixtec language terms as they are applied to Cerambycidae (Coleoptera) and distributional records for species collected during three projects carried out in the states of Guerrero and Puebla, Mexico. Some comparative data from other Mesoamerican and Native American languages are discussed. Indigenous common names are mapped onto current taxonomic nomenclature, and an analysis is offered of the logical basis for Indigenous classification: the exclusion of some cerambycids and the inclusion of other beetles in the nominal native “cerambycid” category. New state distributional records for the Cerambycidae collected in this study are offered for Guerrero: Bebelis picta Pascoe, Callipogon senex Dupont, Neocompsa macrotricha Martins, Olenosus ser- rimanus Bates, Ornithia mexicana zapotensis Tippmann, Stenygra histrio Audinet-Serville, Strongylaspis championi Bates, Lissonotus flavocinctus puncticollis Bates, and Nothopleurus lobigenis Bates; and Puebla: Juiaparus mexicanus (Thomson), Ptychodes guttulatus Dillon and Dillon, and Steirastoma senex White. Severtsov Institute of Ecology and Evolution, Moscow, Russia email: [email protected] Received June 23, 2013 Abstract—The emerald ash borer (Agrilus planipennis Fairmaire, 1888) is a dangerous invasive pest of ashes. It was previously believed that in European Russia it occurs only in Moscow, Moscow Province, and in the eastern regions of Smolensk Province. An examination of ash trees in 12 cities of European Russia has revealed a much wider area of the emerald ash borer invasion. The pest was found in Konakovo (Tver Province), Tula, Kaluga, Orel, and Voronezh. We have found that A. planipennis damages not only Fraxinus pennsylvanica (an American species which is commonly planted in cities), but also the aborigine European ash Fraxinus excelsior. Ashes in the European forests and in the protective forest belts are badly endangered. Abstract: Agapanthia asphodeli balcanica ssp. n. from Greece and Tetrops gilvipes mikati ssp. n. from Slovakia are decsribed. Many years ago, when I collected Agapanthia asphodeli (Latreille, 1804), specimens caught in France exerted obvious differences from those found in Greece. Differences between the nominotopical form collected in France (Figs 1-2) and imagines collected in Greece were particularly distinct in photographs. A description of the new subspecies Agapanthia asphodeli balcanica ssp. n. from Greece is thus presented here. The description of Tetrops gilvipes mikati ssp. n. is based on a series of specimens caught in East Slovakia many years ago, which was published by me before (Sláma, 2018) as Tetrops gilvipes adlbaueri Lazarev, 2012 - new to Slovakia.
