Benefice of Bentley, Binsted and Froyle Week of Prayer Sunday 2nd June midday to Sunday 9th June midday

WHY DO WE HAVE OUR WEEK OF PRAYER NOW? In the Christian Calendar we celebrate Jesus Christ’s resurrection on Easter Day. This was followed by 40 days during which Jesus appeared to approximately 500 people, after which he ascended to heaven. We now celebrate this as Ascension Day (Thursday 30th May 2019).

This is followed by a period of nine days Above and below - examples of prayer stations before Pentecost Sunday (9th June 2019). School News - Binsted CE Primary

News from Oak Class (Year R/1 Binsted CE Primary School) In Oak Class, we have been very busy as per usual. We have learning about the history of toys, in particular the toys of our parents and grandparents. With this in mind, families have been raiding their attics to find items from their childhood. We had a lot of fun looking at the toys from the past and even getting to play with some of them (our favourite was a dolls house from the 1980s). We were even fortunate enough to have a special visit from a grandparent who gave us a demonstration of his working steam engine.

With spring here, we are now exploring how plants grow and nurturing caterpillars which we are hoping to see turn into butterflies very soon.

BENTLEY FLOWER SHOW 2019

Bentley Flower Show had a record-breaking number of entries in 2018. Enter the show this year and help to make 2019 the most successful flower show ever. Whether you’re a beginner or an expert, there’ll be a class for you. Look out for the flower show schedule at Bentley Stores, Bentley School and The Star or check online at www.bentleyflowershow.org.uk For gardeners, it can be as simple as one stem of your favourite rose or as elaborate as a bowl of flowers from your July garden. Fashionable dahlias have a new class of their own this year. If you grow your own vegetables, how about entering a display of produce from your garden or allotment? And for the master chefs in Bentley, how about entering some artisan bread, one of the cake classes or bringing a pot of your favourite pickle? For children aged 3-11 there are eight craft classes and they can also enter the popular photograph competition.

So come and join us at the Bentley Flower Show on 20 July. You can enter online, or come and sign up at the Memorial Hall on Wednesday 17 July between 6.00-8.00pm.

INVITATION TO ALL

Thursday 27th June 2019 – Trip to Tuppenny Barn

We are arranging a coach outing to The Tuppenny Barn Organic Centre. Tuppenny Barn is a UK registered charity. They cultivate and harvest organic produce, using this to create learning experiences for all ages and to promote the benefits of growing, cooking and eating healthy food. Please come and see for yourself this beautifully managed “Barn” and the field surrounding it, growing so much in a small space. The Director and founder Maggie Haynes will lead us on a tour, with a cream tea afterwards. When reaching the area, we will first go to nearby Emsworth for coffee / lunch, maybe even a wander. It is an interesting town with lots of places to eat. Then on to the Tuppenny Barn in the afternoon. With good weather it should be a lovely day out. For more information about them, please visit their website above. +++ The coach will leave the Bentley Memorial Hall at 10.30 am and the cost will be £18 per person which will include the Tour and Cream Tea.
