About 700,000 British soldiers I hope many of you will join us this year at our lost their lives in that terrible war; in London Remembrance Day Services, when we will give 41,833 men never returned home, while some thanks to those who died that we might live in smaller towns and villages families lost almost all peace today. their young men. School News – Bentley CE Primary

News from Bentley CE Primary School

The term seems to be flying by and the weather has taken an autumnal turn with the high winds bringing down the very popular conkers on the playground. I think most of our children have gone home each night with book bags full of those precious conkers. I certainly have piles of them in my house!

Our extra-curricular activities are in full swing this term and the children are enjoying the time they spend before and after school in the wide range of clubs we offer. Our regular clubs provided by external companies include Judo, Football, Orchestra, Club Morgan, Archery and Fencing, Ceramics and Boppin. In addition Teamwork and fresh air at Football with CMSports to the externally provided clubs, our Teaching staff run clubs in the Autumn and Spring terms. These can range from Newspaper Club, Choir, Computing, Art and Crafts, and Netball to Badminton, Storytelling, Drama, Harry Potter and Orienteering. We are lucky enough to have super volunteers who run Hockey, Cookery and Science Clubs, too.

There are a number of fabulous music teachers who come into school to offer private tuition in piano, guitar, flute, violin, recorder and RockSteady, who puts together bands of drummers, keyboard players, vocalists and guitarists who perform regularly in school.

Our Wrap-a-Round childcare at school is also very popular, helping our working parents with a facility open from 7.45am to 6pm by providing a safe, fun space for their children. Our childcare has a play based focus where the children are greeted by school staff who provide a delicious breakfast in the morning and a light tea in the afternoon. There are so many activities offered to the children in our Wrap-a-Round care - floorball, table tennis, dodgeball, movies and craft activities, as well as a quiet space to do homework, and many of them are learning to knit!

School News – Bentley CE Primary – continued

Each year we hope to have something for everyone across the primary age range – whether they love sport, books, all things techy, nature, singing, science, dancing, art, exploring, films, creating, acting, or performing.

This term has also seen a mammoth apple pick!

Creating beautiful works of art at Before the end of term all our children will have Ceramics with JJ walked up to a local orchard and spent an hour picking apples off the trees and gathering windfall. These are then delivered to the local press who turn them into delicious apple juice which is sold at school, in Bentley Stores and Shop & Post Office. All the proceeds go to the PTFA charity which provides additional funds for the school. Huge thanks to the Slater family for allowing us to visit their orchard! If you would like to donate any apples from your own trees – or indeed would like us to send a team to pick them for you – please do get in touch. We are very happy to collect your apples if you are unable to deliver them to school.

Tales from the Tots Dottie Tots

We have embraced the seasonal changes at Dottie Tots this month and have thoroughly enjoyed decorating pumpkins from the pumpkin patch, exploring autumnal colours through messy play activities, threading conker caterpillars and baking with home grown apples and blackberries as part of our ‘Brilliant Bakers’ morning with Miss Syreeta.

We have created our very own Dottie Post too. Parents have commented that they have Office with the children and have been reading been delighted with their very ‘special delivery’ ‘The Jolly Postman’ story to explore this theme and that the children are so proud of them too. with them. Our dots have thoroughly enjoyed creating artwork for members of their family and We have lots of new and exciting things posting them home from our local Post Office planned for the children and will be extending our curriculum to include French, Spanish, Dance and mindful yoga classes this term. I am also very excited to announce that we have twinned with a French nursery school and plan to exchange photographs and artwork with our twin school. We will share more stories about this in the next addition Eager postman! of tales from the Tots.

Tales from the Tots Dinky Tots

We will be looking at light and dark and with bonfire night coming up, we’ll be creating lots of colourful crafts, and exploring the sounds of fireworks. The children will also get creative with crafts for Diwali, the Hindu festival of lights.

When we look at our season of winter, we’ll introduce the theme of nature and birds. As there’s not much food for the birds at this time of year, we’ll be making bird feeders with the children so they can watch the birds come and feed in the garden.

A lot of November is going to be spent practising for our Christmas show and spending time outside in our Forest school area with the wind nipping our noses and the cold creeping into our wellies no doubt. The children have endless fun and are going to love learning about nocturnal animals whilst exploring their areas.

Painting fun!

At the heart of the evening will be two pieces, the well-known, reflective and driven Chichester Psalms and the Missa Brevis which is written for choir, piano and percussion ensemble. It will also feature the popular choral melody from West Side Story and the The Ramierez Misa Criolla, a folk mass based on the rhythms and traditions of Hispanic America. 31 | B&B Magazine November 2018 Binsted Football Club

Binsted Youth Football Club was founded by Tim Winkworth in 2005. Tim recognised that there were a lot of children living in Binsted, Bentley and the surrounding area who were keen to play football. Some of them were playing for teams in Alton, Farnham and Aldershot but many of these teams were over-subscribed. He identified the potential for a local football team and Binsted FC was born. Starting with just one team, Binsted Football Club is now in its 4th season and is growing year on year. We have over 50 members aged from 6 to 11 years playing in seven teams from Under 7 to Under 11. We train on a Thursday evening at Binsted Recreation ground, or now that the nights are drawing in, on the 3G (artificial pitch) at Mill Chase Leisure Centre in Bordon. Our home games are played at Binsted Rec on a Saturday morning and we have received many comments about our fantastic setting for matches.

We also have a session on a Saturday morning from 10am – 11am for children aged 4 to 6 years. Please do turn up, we will be there unless it is too cold or to wet. It is £3 per session and pay on the day.

We enjoyed success amongst all of our teams last season. It has been fantastic to see the children develop individually as well as in their teams and for many children the benefits have been about more than just football. They have made new friends and grown in confidence. Some particular highlights of last season were the U7 ‘Devils’ winning the Beacon Hill Tournament, the U8s winning the plate at the Aldershot Tournament the U10s winning their league cup and the U12s (‘The Hampshire Devils’) travelling to Gothia in Sweden to play in the Gothia Cup (The World Youth Cup)

We have had great weather to start off this season and it has been fantastic to see lots of children enjoying football on Binsted Rec.

For most of us it is only barely glimpsed as it takes its silent, jinxing flight from close cover, its strong leg muscles springing into an immediate take off.

Large numbers tend to arrive from Russia and There were no recordings of native breeding Scandinavia during the October and November woodcock in this country until around 1827, so full moons in what are known as ‘falls’, and at the conclusion was that they spent two months one time people believed that this mysterious getting to the moon and three months living bird really did fly to the moon and back. there before the return journey. Parish Weatherman A new chapter for the Bentley Book A working party has been set up to address the issue of the poor state of our well-known Bentley landmark, The Bentley Book. The oak structure surrounding the Book is in a very bad state of repair so it will be replaced by a new oak structure with a tiled roof in the same design as the current building. Work to produce the new structure is now well underway. Our landmark will be replaced with a new design and the committee is working hard to produce a new piece which will be both informative and reflect of the character of the village. When the design is nearing completion it will be publicised for comments. Watch this space…. Bentley Parish Council

CATERING – as defined in the Oxford English Dictionary:-‐

“The provision of food and drink at a social event”

It could follow therefore, that, if you were to invite some mates, warm up some tins of baked beans, pour them onto s piece of , hot buttered toast and sit yourselves down in front of the telly with a few , beers you would be, by definition, a caterer.

Hmmmm – if only it were that easy......

CATERING – as defined in our book:-‐

“The professional planning and execution of an event, from inception to conclusion; compiling inspired menus; advising, assisting, and – fine tuning; co ordinating kitchen, contractors and costs; purchasing of fresh foods, its preparation and presentation; managing the occasion supported by friendly , personnel all in all leading to an event that surpasses all expectations.”

Yep – that’s a bit more like it!
