Intro 1996 National List of Vascular Plant Species That Occur in Wetlands The Fish and Wildlife Service has prepared a National List of Vascular Plant Species That Occur in Wetlands: 1996 National Summary (1996 National List). The 1996 National List is a draft revision of the National List of Plant Species That Occur in Wetlands: 1988 National Summary (Reed 1988) (1988 National List). The 1996 National List is provided to encourage additional public review and comments on the draft regional wetland indicator assignments. The 1996 National List reflects a significant amount of new information that has become available since 1988 on the wetland affinity of vascular plants. This new information has resulted from the extensive use of the 1988 National List in the field by individuals involved in wetland and other resource inventories, wetland identification and delineation, and wetland research. Interim Regional Interagency Review Panel (Regional Panel) changes in indicator status as well as additions and deletions to the 1988 National List were documented in Regional supplements. The National List was originally developed as an appendix to the Classification of Wetlands and Deepwater Habitats of the United States (Cowardin et al.1979) to aid in the consistent application of this classification system for wetlands in the field.. The 1996 National List also was developed to aid in determining the presence of hydrophytic vegetation in the Clean Water Act Section 404 wetland regulatory program and in the implementation of the swampbuster provisions of the Food Security Act. While not required by law or regulation, the Fish and Wildlife Service is making the 1996 National List available for review and comment. -

PREFACE All doors were opened to start this travel, beginning for the many magical pristine forest of Ecuador, Sierra de Juárez Oaxaca and los Tuxtlas in Veracruz, some of the most biodiverse zones in the planet, were I had the honor to put my feet, contemplate their beauty and perfection and work in their mystical forest. It was a dream into reality! The collaboration with the German counterpart started at the beginning of my academic career and I never imagine that this will be continued to bring this research that summarizes the efforts of many researchers that worked hardly in the overwhelming and incredible biodiverse tropics. -

Geographical Checklist of the Micronesian Pteridophyta and Gymoospermae F. R. FOSBERG, MARIE-HELENE SACHET and ROYCE OLIVER Botany Department, National Museum of Natural History, Smithsonian Institution Washington, D. C. 20560 Abstract- All species of pteridophytes and gymnosperms known from Micronesia are listed along with their known distribution in Micronesia by islands. Basionyms, synonyms and misapplied names that have been used in print for Micronesian plants of these groups are also listed and cross-referenced. All207 species and varieties of pteridophytes are listed, of which 198 are considered indigenous, 9 exotic. Of the indigenous ones, 31 are considered endemic to Micronesia. 26 of them are known only from the Caroline Islands, 3 from the Marianas, and 2 from both groups. There are no endemics in the Marshall and Gilbert groups or in the several isolated islands. A total of !67 species are also found outside Micronesia, mostly widespread, a few pantropical, many Indo-Pacific or Malesian-Pacitic, a few Polynesian or Melanesian. These distributions are, of course, very tentative. Thirteen names are listed but not included in the above figures as they represent records that we regard as in error or very doubtful. A number of plants which have been reported but not identified are merely listed as " sp." but not included in the above figures. The richest fern floras are those of Ponape and Palau. The relationships are mainly lndo-Paci_fic, especially with the Philippines, Malay Archipelago and New Guinea. Of gymnosperms, there are only I indigenous, widespread species, Cycas circinalis (s.l.) and 18 planted exotics. Introduction The circumstances and nature of this systematic and geographic summary of the present state of knowledge of the Micronesian vascular flora have been given in the introduction to the dicotyledon section (Micronesica 15: 41-44, 1979), and so will not be repeated here. -

Corn State of Hawaii Department of Land and Natural Resources Division of Forestry and Wildlife 1991 INTRODUCTION Pihea Trail, which starts at the end of Highway 550, at Puu 0 Kila Lookout, provides access to spectacular views of Kalalau Valley and an opportunity to sample some of the Alakai Wilderness. It also serves as an access to the Alakai Swamp Trail. From the Kalalau Valley rim, the trail turns generally south, crosses the Alakai Swamp Trail, descends to Kawaikoi Stream, and terminates at the Kawaikoi Camp, adjacent to the Mohihi-Camp 10 Road. Total trail length is 3.75 miles. This guide illustrates many native wet forest plants seen along the Pihea Trail from Puu o Kila to a trail side bench and overlook at 3,800 feet elevation. -

KOSKE ABSTRACT: In surveys in the Hawaiian Islands, mycorrhizae occurred fre quently in epiphytic, nonorchidaceous angiosperms and pteridophytes. Both vesicular-arbuscular (VA) and ericoid mycorrhizae were present in epiphytes growing 1-3 m above the forest floor on dead and living tree trunks and on living tree ferns in montane wet forest sites. All eight angiosperm species were mycorrhizal, and 13 of 22 pteridophytes possessed VA mycorrhizae. The high frequency of mycorrhizae in epiphytic species suggests that propagules of my corrhizal fungi routinely are dispersed to these microsites. Possible means of dispersal are discussed. Pencarian acak dengan transek sabuk (20 m x 500 m dengan sub seri 20 m x 100 m) dibangun untuk mencatat kejadian jenis dalam satu hektar atau lebih. Dua belas jenis yang tercakup dalam 10 marga dan delapan suku tercatat sebagai jenis yang berstatus jarang di Gunung Slamet yaitu: (1) Asplenium paradoxum Blume, (2) Christensenia aesculifolia (Blume) Maxon, (2) Cyathea glabra (Blume) Copel., (4) Cyathea oinops Hask., (5) Huperzia phlegmaria (L.) Rothm., (6) Pityrogramma austroamericana Domin, (7) Psilotum complanatum Sw., (8) Pteris insignis Mett.
