Professional experience Based in Baltimore, Kevin Kallaugher, or “KAL” as he is universally known, has been the man behind The Economist’s satirical cartoons since 1978, depicting key global events each week. Combined with 10 years previously working in London as a cartoonist, KAL’s unique skill and experience is recognized around the world. In March 1978, The Economist recruited him to become their first resident cartoonist in their 145 year history after ten years working in London as a cartoonist for The Observer, The Sunday Telegraph, Today and The Mail on Sunday. Past President of the Association of American Editorial Cartoonists and the Cartoonists Rights Network International. Graduated from Harvard College with honours in Visual and Environmental Studies in 1977.
