  • Independence Day: Resurgence
INDEPENDENCE DAY: RESURGENCE (2016) ● Rated PG 13 for sequences of sci fi action and destruction, and for some language ● $165,000,000 budget ● 2 hrs ● Directed by Roland Emmerich ● Produced by Lynn Harris, Matti Leshem, Douglas C. Merrifield ● The film was produced by Columbia Pictures, Sony Pictures QUICK THOUGHTS ● Phil Svitek ● Marisa Serafini ● Demetri Panos ● Sara Stretton DEVELOPMENT ● The possibility of a sequel to Independence Day had long been discussed, and the film's producer and writer, Dean Devlin, once stated that the world's reaction to the September 11 attacks influenced him to strongly consider making a sequel to the film ● Soon after the success of the first film, 20th Century Fox paid Dean Devlin a large sum of money to write a script for a sequel. However, after completing the script, Devlin didn't turn in the script and instead gave the money back to the studio, as he felt the story didn't live up to the first film. It was only approximately 15 years later, that Devlin met up with Roland Emmerich to try again, having felt that they had "cracked" a story for a sequel ● Devlin began writing an outline for a script with Emmerich, but in May 2004, Emmerich said he and Devlin had attempted to "figure out a way how to continue the story", but that this ultimately did not work, and the pair abandoned the idea ● In October 2009, Emmerich said he once again had plans for a sequel, and had since considered the idea of making two sequels to form a trilogy ● On June 24, 2011, Devlin confirmed that he and Emmerich had found an idea for the sequels and had written a treatment for it ● In October 2011, however, discussions for Will Smith returning were halted, due to Fox's refusal to provide the $50 million salary demanded by Smith for the two sequels ● Emmerich, however, made assurances that the films would be shot backtoback, regardless of Smith's involvement ○ Resurgence filmmakers were reported to be preparing versions of the film both with and without Will Smith.

  • Read Ebook {PDF EPUB} the Boyhood of Harvey by Stephen Turner Inside Steve Harvey’S $15 Million Atlanta Mansion
Read Ebook {PDF EPUB} The Boyhood of Harvey by Stephen Turner Inside Steve Harvey’s $15 Million Atlanta Mansion. First Madea, now Steve Harvey. Those walls will never be short of a laugh. An Atlanta, Ga., mansion formerly owned by movie mogul and actor Tyler Perry, in the affluent Buckhead area, has just been purchased by funnyman-turned-talk-show-host and self-help author Harvey and his wife Marjorie for $15 million, as first reported by TMZ. Harvey and Perry alone could probably start their own TV network with all the content they produce. The former, 63, is an omnipresent face on the small screen, hosting “Showtime at the Apollo,” “Celebrity Family Feud” and the Miss Universe competition. As for Perry, he has shows running on BET, Netflix, OWN, Nickelodeon and more. Both also have rags to riches back stories, having been homeless and, at times, laving lived in their cars before making it big in entertainment. Perry sold the unabashedly opulent 35,000-square-foot behemoth in 2016 for $17.5 million, after having had it on the market for almost two years with an unrealistic initial asking price of $25 million. Despite the multimillion-dollar difference between the original asking price and the recorded sale price, the property nonetheless made real estate waves as the most expensive residential sale in Atlanta history. It’s worth taking a gulp of air before reading through the plethora of features in the 7-bed, 9.5-bath spread. First, there’s the setting: 17 acres of manicured lawns bordered by trimmed gardens, a 70,000-gallon infinity-edged swimming pool, a lighted tennis court, fully equipped gym and separate spa.

  • 1 Evolving Authorship, Developing Contexts: 'Life Lessons'
Notes 1 Evolving Authorship, Developing Contexts: ‘Life Lessons’ 1. This trajectory finds its seminal outlining in Caughie (1981a), being variously replicated in, for example, Lapsley and Westlake (1988: 105–28), Stoddart (1995), Crofts (1998), Gerstner (2003), Staiger (2003) and Wexman (2003). 2. Compare the oft-quoted words of Sarris: ‘The art of the cinema … is not so much what as how …. Auteur criticism is a reaction against sociological criticism that enthroned the what against the how …. The whole point of a meaningful style is that it unifies the what and the how into a personal state- ment’ (1968: 36). 3. For a fuller discussion of the conception of film authorship here described, see Grist (2000: 1–9). 4. While for this book New Hollywood Cinema properly refers only to this phase of filmmaking, the term has been used by some to designate ‘either something diametrically opposed to’ such filmmaking, ‘or some- thing inclusive of but much larger than it’ (Smith, M. 1998: 11). For the most influential alternative position regarding what he calls ‘the New Hollywood’, see Schatz (1993). For further discussion of the debates sur- rounding New Hollywood Cinema, see Kramer (1998), King (2002), Neale (2006) and King (2007). 5. ‘Star image’ is a concept coined by Richard Dyer in relation to film stars, but it can be extended to other filmmaking personnel. To wit: ‘A star image is made out of media texts that can be grouped together as promotion, publicity, films and commentaries/criticism’ (1979: 68). 6. See, for example, Grant (2000), or the conception of ‘post-auteurism’ out- lined and critically demonstrated in Verhoeven (2009).

  • The Hollywood Cinema Industry's Coming of Digital Age: The
The Hollywood Cinema Industry’s Coming of Digital Age: the Digitisation of Visual Effects, 1977-1999 Volume I Rama Venkatasawmy BA (Hons) Murdoch This thesis is presented for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy of Murdoch University 2010 I declare that this thesis is my own account of my research and contains as its main content work which has not previously been submitted for a degree at any tertiary education institution. -------------------------------- Rama Venkatasawmy Abstract By 1902, Georges Méliès’s Le Voyage Dans La Lune had already articulated a pivotal function for visual effects or VFX in the cinema. It enabled the visual realisation of concepts and ideas that would otherwise have been, in practical and logistical terms, too risky, expensive or plain impossible to capture, re-present and reproduce on film according to so-called “conventional” motion-picture recording techniques and devices. Since then, VFX – in conjunction with their respective techno-visual means of re-production – have gradually become utterly indispensable to the array of practices, techniques and tools commonly used in filmmaking as such. For the Hollywood cinema industry, comprehensive VFX applications have not only motivated the expansion of commercial filmmaking praxis. They have also influenced the evolution of viewing pleasures and spectatorship experiences. Following the digitisation of their associated technologies, VFX have been responsible for multiplying the strategies of re-presentation and story-telling as well as extending the range of stories that can potentially be told on screen. By the same token, the visual standards of the Hollywood film’s production and exhibition have been growing in sophistication.
