Some stories were better than others The Avengers: Nights of Wundagore there was a great mix of characters and the art did not disappoint! Nov 09, Rachel rated it really liked it. I enjoyed this, but I was frustrated. The center of most of these stories is the origin of the Maximoff twins or Frank, or whatever their last name is and knowing that in current comics it has The Avengers: Nights of Wundagore retconned so a lot of what we learn here is moot But other than that it was fun. I liked seeing Falcon join the Avengers, and watching them deal with bureaucracy is always a great mixture of amusing and frustrating. May 14, Laura Stericker rated it liked it. Fun, if a little tacky. This edition suffered for being in black and white, particularly the first comic featuring a truly crazy number of characters. If not for three issues at the beginning that were not written by David Michelinie an outstanding writer and drawn by Byrne then this would be a five star review. The first story in my edition but maybe not every edition The Avengers: Nights of Wundagore by Steve Gerber and it was a focus on the Beast and was a strange tale that had no business being in the Avengers OR a comic book. Then was a very boring two-parter with Bloodhawk, one of thos You can't get much better than the John Byrne run on the Avengers from the 80's. Then was a very boring two-parter with Bloodhawk, one of those villains that had no personality and looked like he was created in three seconds. A very forgettable phoned in two issues by Ton DeFalco. Then we get to David Michelinie who shows the rest of them how to do it - he shakes up the Avengers by limiting their roster adding Falcon over Hawkeye which was a less than wise move story-wise and then we launch into an enjoyable series of tales with the Avengers ending with a look into Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch's past. A little too much on the flashbacks and it does get confusing with all the exposition - but with Byrne's art they are still very enjoyable. Mar 17, Draackje rated it liked it Shelves: comics. Nights of Wundagore contains stories about the origins of the Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver. Both new characters for The Avengers: Nights of Wundagore, and this was a very decent introduction. The history of the characters was summarized in an entertaining way, their relationship with the Avengers was laid out, their childhood issues were explained, and some mystical magical concepts were introduced. Although it felt a little bit dated, I was still entertained and even intrigued by the Scarlet Witch and her potential adventures. Looking forward to reading more about her! Hawkeye lingered for a few issues, helping the core team fight the Absorbing Man, a Thor villain given gratifyingly complex treatment here. Avengers: Nights of Wundagore was an important arc that set in motion a lot of the things that writers would do with the Scarlet Witch over the following three decades. With The Avengers: Nights of Wundagore characterization and complex interpersonal dynamics, it was a vital run of The Avengers: Nights of Wundagore series. The revolving door for writers continued, but strong editorial oversight kept it all consistent. Most importantly, John Byrne came aboard as regular penciler for a stint that would last nearly a year. A version of this review originally appeared The Avengers: Nights of Wundagore www. It argues that this connection was not integral to the character as he was originally created, but was imposed by later writers over time and mainly for cinematic adaptations. This thesis also tracks the history of how Christians and churches viewed Superman, as the film studios began to exploit marketing opportunities by comparing Superman and Jesus. This thesis uses the methodological framework of intertextuality to ground its treatment of the sources, but does not follow all of the assumptions of intertextual theorists. iii MA Thesis—Robert Revington; McMaster University, Religious Studies ABSTRACT This thesis examines the historical trajectory of how the comic book character of Superman came to be identified as a Christ figure in popular consciousness. Superman was created in 1938, but the character developed significantly from his earliest incarnations.

https://lthj.qut.edu.au/ LAW, TECHNOLOGY AND HUMANS Volume 2 (2) 2020 https://doi.org/10.5204/lthj.1581 Before the Law: Limits, Malice and The Immortal Hulk Neal Curtis The University of Auckland, New Zealand Abstract This article uses Kafka's short story 'Before the Law' to offer a reading of Al Ewing's The Immortal Hulk. This is in turn used to explore our desire to encounter the Law understood as a form of completeness. The article differentiates between 'the Law' as completeness or limitlessness and 'the law' understood as limitation. The article also examines this desire to experience completeness or limitlessness in the work of George Bataille who argued such an experience was the path to sovereignty. In response it also considers Francois Flahault's critique of Bataille who argued Bataille failed to understand limitlessness is split between a 'good infinite' and a 'bad infinite', and that it is only the latter that can ultimately satisfy us. The article then proposes The Hulk, especially as presented in Al Ewing's The Immortal Hulk, is a study in where our desire for limitlessness can take us. Ultimately it proposes we turn ourselves away from the Law and towards the law that preserves and protects our incompleteness. Keywords: Law; sovereignty; comics; superheroes; The Hulk Introduction From Jean Bodin to Carl Schmitt, the foundation of the law, or what we more readily understand as sovereignty, is marked by a significant division. The law is a limit in the sense of determining what is permitted and what is proscribed, but the authority for this limit is often said to derive from something unlimited.

  • The Hulk Outline
The Hulk Synopsis Bruce Banner volunteers to be a test subject for a gamma-based super soldier program for General Ross. The experiment fails and the exposure to the gamma radiation turn Banner into the Hulk, who mindlessly kills everyone in his path. Banner becomes a fugitive, turning into the Hulk every time his heart rate exceeds 200 beats per minute, and Ross starts the Hulkbusters to deal with the Hulk and other gamma- powered superhumans. Over the next two years, the Hulk gradually becomes more intelligent over time and fights other gamma-powered supervillains like the Leader and Abomination. Banner gradually takes notice and sympathizes with him. One day, as Banner walks around in Las Vegas, he notices Abomination rampaging in Vegas Strip. Abomination notices him and he attacks Banner as he turns into the Hulk. They fight as Hulkbusters come and open fire on them, killing innocent people (including children) in the process. Hulk takes them down as Abomination retreats, and the rest of the people run from the Hulk. Banner encourages Hulk to prove he’s a hero to the world, but Hulk refuses, thinking he’ll never be accepted among humanity. Banner’s cousin, Jennifer Walters, comes to him and offers him to come to Reno with her after eavesdropping on his talk with Hulk. They make it there and they’re greeted by Jen’s friends, Jane Foster and Betty Ross. They have lunch at a local pizza restaurant when Absorbing Man and the Wrecking Crew cause chaos. Thor (who Jane arranged with Jen and Betty to meet) comes to stop them, but is overwhelmed when the villain activate gamma devices that increase their power.
