Smith Takes on Eggington in March 30 Liverpool Homecoming
SMITH TAKES ON EGGINGTON IN MARCH 30 LIVERPOOL HOMECOMING Liam Smith will make his long-awaited Liverpool homecoming on March 30 when he takes on Sam Eggington at the M&S Bank Arena, live on Sky Sports in the UK and DAZN in the US. Smith became Liverpool’s first World Champion in over 20 years when he stopped American John Thompson to claim the WBO Super- Welterweight crown at the Merseyside arena in 2015 before making a second successful defence of the title against Predrag Radosevic at the same venue in 2016. ‘Beefy’ hasn’t fought in his home city since and is itching to get back under the lights as he sets about winning back a version of the World title he bravely lost against pound-for- pound star Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez in Texas in 2016, and in doing so becoming the city’s first two-time World Champion. Former European Welterweight Champion Eggington knows he is fighting for his career after suffering a shock stoppage defeat to Tanzania’s Hassan Mwakinyo at Arena Birmingham in September. ‘The Savage’ was preparing to face former World ruler Brandon Rios at Wembley Stadium when he was wiped out by the dangerous African, but the Stourbridge man believes a win against Smith would put his name back in the mix for title action at 154lbs. “It’s a very good fight for me,” said Smith. “I’ve done a lot – and I mean a lot – of sparring with Sam. You know what you are going to get with him. He comes to fight. -

Boxrec Admits Data Error in Mwakinyoʼs Latest Ranking
Boxrec admits data error in Mwakinyoʼs latest ranking Sunday April 5 2020 By Majuto Omary @majutoy2k [email protected] https://www.thecitizen.co.tz/news/Sports/Boxrec-admits-data-error-in-Mwakinyo-s-latest-ranking/1840572-5515088-3b3rqi/ index.html The Tanzania Professional Boxing Regulatory Commission (TPBRC) has said Tanzanian professional boxer Hassan Mwakinyo has to remain calm as the worldʼs boxing records (Boxrec) confirmed that the fighterʼs recent ranking should be ignored due to a computer data error during the tallying. According to this monthʼs rankings, Mwakinyo sits in the 86th slot contrary to his 24th previous position out of 1,802 boxers in the Super Welterweight boxing division. Mwakinyoʼs fall was not normal as he dropped to 62 positions and his points were deducted to 5.367. The position shocked many professional boxing stakeholders due to the factor that most of the sports activities have now been suspended due to the coronavirus outbreak. Speaking with The Citizen yesterday, TPBRC secretary general Yahya Poli said they communicated with Boxrec officials on the matter and the latter admitted that it was a computer tallying error. According to Poli, the officials said the error had not only affected Mwakinyo, but also other professional boxers in the world and promised to rectify it in not less than 14 days from now. “I call upon Mwakinyo and other professional boxers in the country to remain calm as Boxrec are resolving the matter as it is not the first time such an error to occur,” said Poli. He explained that even Light Middleweight boxer Abdallah Pazi alias Dulla Mbabe faced the similar problem and that Boxrec rectified it after they were informed. -

Cash – I’M Levels Above Cullen
CASH – I’M LEVELS ABOVE CULLEN Felix Cash believes that he is “levels above” Jack Cullen and is determined to prove it when they meet for the Commonwealth Middleweight crown at Manchester Arena on Saturday November 2, live on Sky Sports in the UK and DAZN in the US. The unbeaten Wokingham talent (11-0, 7 KOs) landed the Commonwealth title in style by taking out Nigeria’s Rasheed Abolaji in the opening round of their clash at The O2 in February earlier this year but hasn’t fought since after an injury ruled him out of his July 6 date with Cullen. ‘Little Lever’s Meat Cleaver’ has enjoyed a breakout year, stopping Jack Sellars in eight rounds to win the English title at the Bolton Whites Hotel in May before halting Dillian Whyte protege John Harding Jr on his Sky Sports debut in Liverpool three months later. Despite his opponent’s recent run of impressive form, Cash insists that he has more than enough in his armoury to deal with Cullen and has predicted that their eagerly- anticipated domestic showdown won’t go the scheduled 12 rounds. “I’ve been looking forward to this fight for a while and now it’s time to deal with this fella in good fashion,” said Cash. “There are a few weaknesses in his game which I have seen and no disrespect to John Harding Jr but he’s no Felix Cash and if he stands and trades with me then he’s going to be in trouble and he will walk onto one.
