WARRINGTON TOPS HUGE LEEDS BILL ON JULY 30 Josh Warrington will headline a huge bill at the First Direct Arena in Leeds on July 30, live on Sky Sports. The unbeaten Leeds star tops the card in his hometown fortress for the sixth time in two years with promoter Eddie Hearn to announce his opponent on Monday. Warrington’s last outing at the First Direct Arena in April saw him defeat the dangerous Japanese Hisashi Amagasa to move to 23-0 and he continues his hunt for a World title shot on July 30. There’s a stacked bill in support with Olympic gold medal hero Luke Campbell MBE back in title action following his brilliant KO win over Gary Sykes in Sheffield in March to land the Commonwealth title. There’s a tasty Yorkshire derby as Huddersfield’s Tyrone Nurse defends his British Super-Lightweight title against Hull’s Tommy Coyle and Birmingham talent Gamal Yafai defends his Commonwealth Super-Bantamweight title against Barnsley’s Josh Wale. Some of Britain’s best are in action in the shape of British Bantamweight king Ryan Burnett, the return of Birmingham Welterweight Frankie Gavin, his local rival and former British champion Sam Eggington and Brixton Heavyweight Dillian Whyte. “This is by far the biggest night of boxing we have held in the Leeds Arena and there’s some excellent match ups,” said Hearn. “Josh will continue his march to a World title and I’m very excited about the all-Yorkshire clash for the British title between Nurse and Coyle. Luke Campbell is looking to climb the World rankings after his impressive win in Sheffield and hot prospect Gamal Yafai will be up against some strong support and a very game and experienced Josh Wale when defending his Commonwealth title. One of the World’s top prospects Ryan Burnett returns and Heavyweight star Dillian Whyte will continue his charge in the division. BUCKLAND: I CAN MAKE PRIZEFIGHTER HISTORY TOMORROW Gary Buckland says he will let the favourite tag stop him from making history in tomorrow night’s Prizefighter Lightweights III tournament at the York Hall, Bethnal Green, live on Sky Sports. Buckland is looking to become the third fighter to win the title for a second time and the first two-weight champion, and is the bookies’ pick to triumph in the 34th edition of Matchroom Sport’s eight-man, one night event. The Welshman triumphed here back in September 2010 in the Super Featherweights, stunning a star-studded field to take the title. ‘Dynamo’ edged out Stevie Bell in the quarter- finals before a brilliant first round KO of Gary Sykes landed him a place in the final against Derry Mathews, where he stopped the Scouser in the second round. “It was four years ago and I only did five rounds on the night, because I was stopping them,” said Buckland. “That was good then but I wished I had the nine rounds now. There was no KO bonus then either! But I have that experience to call on and we’ve trained exactly the same way to get the same result. I don’t like being the favourite, last time out I was an outsider at 12/1 and I went and won it, I KO’d the favourite that night in Gary Sykes and Choi lost to Derry in a war before I beat him in the final, so the odds and who is the favourite doesn’t mean a thing, you just have to pour everything you have into every second.” The 28 year old has happy memories of that night but his last outing was here too and ended in defeat to Richard Commey for the Commonwealth title.

COYLE: I’LL MAKE HISTORY IN LEEDS Tommy Coyle says he will make history in by becoming the first British champion from Hull when he challenges Tyrone Nurse for the Super-Lightweight title at the First Direct Arena in Leeds on July 30, live on Sky Sports. Coyle clash with old amateur foe Nurse is his second fight at 140lbs having made the move from Lightweight in May over six rounds in Manchester. COMMONWEALTH BOXING COUNCIL BULLETIN 12th March 2018 COMMONWEALTH DAY EVENTS – MONDAY 12TH MARCH 2018 The Commonwealth Boxing Council being accredited by the Commonwealth Secretariat as Commonwealth Civil Society, will be represented at 2 events marking the day. The Assistant Secretary, Debbie Down, has been invited to attend the Commonwealth Day Service at Westminster Abbey in the presence of HM Queen Elizabeth II and other members of the royal family, along with representatives of other Commonwealth Civil Societies, the Royal Overseas League, diplomats, youth groups and other individuals and groups connected with Commonwealth Secretariat activities. Later that evening, the Hon Secretary will attend a reception at the Commonwealth Headquarters at Marlborough House in London’s Pall Mall, in the presence of HRH The Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall. CBC RATINGS – WOMEN’S CHAMPIONSHIPS CBC-approved ratings of women boxers will now be available on the CBC website at www.commbc.com. These have been compiled by MS SHIVANA INALSINGH of the Trinidad and Tobago Boxing Board of Control, daughter of current CBC President Dr Calvin Inalsingh, at the request of the CBC Board and Ms Inalsingh has produced an excellent guide to the best women boxers in the Commonwealth currently. With only the second Commonwealth Women’s Championship scheduled to take place on 7th April in the Superwelter division (see ‘Forthcoming Championships’) progress has been slow in establishing these Championships despite having been available for many years now. SARAH PUCEK, the Canadian Brit remains our only current Champion, in the Featherweight division. It is hoped that these ratings will make it easier for promoters to assess who might be available to be matched for the vacant Championships that currently exist.
