Uchwałą Zarządu PZSzach nr 17/02/2020 z dnia 17 lutego 2020 r. do składu zarządu została dokooptowana Anna Mrozińska. Uchwałą Zarządu PZSzach nr 18/02/2020 z dnia 18 lutego 2020 r. Zarząd przyjął rezygnację Sekretarza Generalnego PZSzach Waldemara Taboły z powodów zdrowotnych. Na funkcję nowego Sekretarza Generalnego PZSzach Zarząd powołał mistrza międzynarodowego Krystiana Kuźmicza. Na stanowisko Dyrektora Biura PZSzach powołano Beatę Kowalewską. W okresie sprawozdawczym zarząd PZSzach podjął 42 uchwały w 2019 r. i 51 uchwał w 2020 r. Russian GM Evgeny Najer won the European Individual Chess Championship 2015, which was held in Jerusalem/Israel from 23 February to 8 March, 2015. The new champion scored 8.5 points ahead of Navara, Bartel and Khismatullin 8 each. 22 players scored 7.5 points each securing a place in the world cup games next October in the Azeri capital of Baku. 1 NL MARCH 2015 EUROPEAN CHESS UNION The great upset of the championship was the poor finish of the former continental champion, Russian Ian Nepomnianchtchi; who had led the field to what seemed to be a second title but managed to score just half a point in the last three rounds with painful defeat against Polish Mateusz Bartel in the final round. The complete results and the final standings may be seen here The prize giving was attended by the board of the European Chess Union and started with a projected greeting by the Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Speeches were made by President of the ECU, GM Zurab Azmaiparashvili (himself a former European champion) and ACP (Association of chess professionals) president GM Emil Sutovsky who both praised the superb organization of the event expressing their hope for more such major tournaments in Israel soon enough. The article deals with the sociological paradox of chess. On the one hand, this game gives people who belong to its social world a kind of desirable distinction, but on the other hand this distinction is not connected with the class position. In Pierre Bourdieu’s terms, if we treat chess as part of the sports field, then class distinction should be interconnected with it. Why is chess extremely popular and widespread, and therefore egalitarian, although it seems to be an excellent instrument for increasing class advantage? What makes so many people play chess, and how does chess confer the transclass distinction upon them? In answering these questions I will focus on the accessibility and openness of chess, its social nature, the totality of chess experience and the impossibility of defining it within one field: sport, science or art, and – last but not least – on the possibility of manipulating chess’s illusio. Players compete for the dean’s prize, a metal statuette of a chess horse designed in the modernist style of the faculty building, Collegium Minus (the so-called Harmonijka). During one of the tournaments I encouraged a friend of mine to take part, an academic professor, a person with a considerable chess practice and knowledge, who is also a prime example of the academic intel- ligentsia habitus.
