B Manawatu Car Club Inc MAGAZINE DECEMBER 2017 Something for Everyone Page 1 of 50 EDITORSPEAK… I hope you enjoyed last month’s departure from my normal editorial content. Farming can be so frustrating at times, however it can also be so much fun writing about the frustrations!! As indicated last month, it’s been a journey, however the ewes have come so far in a short space of time. It just goes to show what a little bribery can achieve. Just yesterday I left them I’ve seen this before, however I am compelled in an outside yard while I went to refill the bulk to comment as it is doing the rounds of the feed bin from the bags I keep in the barn. I local papers. Youi Insurance CEO Frank Costigan came back around the corner …. If he had stopped to think about what he had pushed open the gate, made their way into was saying and research any conclusion before the shed and were halfway up onto the milking bursting forth, I’d suggest that he could have platform, impatient for me to come back with avoided confirming beyond doubt that with one their nibbles!! ACES WILD ACES WILD The Story of the British Grand Prix THE STORY OF THE Peter Miller Motor racing is one of the most 10. 3. BRITISH GRAND PRIX exacting and dangerous sports in the world today. And Grand Prix racing for Formula 1 single-seater cars is the RIX GREATS toughest of them all. The ultimate ambition of every racing driver since 1950, when the com petition was first introduced, has been to be crowned as 'World Cham pion'. In this, his fourth book, author Peter Miller looks into the back ground of just one of the annual qualifying rounds-the British Grand Prix-which go to make up the elusive title. Although by no means the oldest motor race on the English sporting calendar, the British Grand Prix has become recognised as an epic and invariably dramatic event, since its inception at Silverstone, Northants, on October 2nd, 1948. Since gaining World Championship status in May, 1950 — it was in fact the very first event in the Drivers' Championships of the W orld-this race has captured the interest not only of racing enthusiasts, LOONS but also of the man in the street. It has been said that the supreme test of the courage, skill and virtuosity of a Grand Prix driver is to w in the Monaco Grand Prix through the narrow streets of Monte Carlo and the German Grand Prix at the notorious Nürburgring. Both of these gruelling circuits cer tainly stretch a driver's reflexes to the limit and the winner of these classic events is assured of his rightful place in racing history.

  • RL-Tyrrell 010/02 Dec.Pages
! 1980 Tyrrell 010 Chassis No: 010/2 • A competitive and useable ground effect entry to the flourishing FIA Historic Formula One Championship, with a sister 010 taking six wins so far this season. • Raced for 11 Grand Prix in 1980 by Derek Daly with a 4th at the British Grand Prix. • Driven in 1981 by Ricardo Zunino and Eddie Cheever, with another 4th at the British Grand Prix for Cheever. • HSCC Historic Formula 1 Champion with Richard Peacock in 1989. • In the current ownership for the last 10 years, with minimal use. The Tyrrell Racing Organisation is a name that rings out with some of the all time Formula 1 greats, with three Formula 1 World Championships and one Constructors Championship to its name. It’s founder, Ken Tyrrell first came into racing in 1958 when he ran three Formula 3 cars for himself and a couple of local stars. Ken soon realised that he was not destined to be a racing driver and stood down from driving duties in 1959, instead to focus on running a Formula Junior team from a woodshed owned by his family business, Tyrrell Brothers. Tyrrell ran a variety of cars in the lower formulas through the 1960s, giving drivers like John Surtees, Jacky Ickx and most notably Jackie Stewart their single seater debuts. In 1968, Tyrrell’s involvement with Matra in Formula 2 was stepped up to the main stage of Formula 1, where Ken ran Matra International, a joint venture between Tyrrell and Matra. They had many wins with Stewart in the MS10 during ’68.

  • STATEMENT of PURPOSE the Purpose of the Historic Motor Sports
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE The purpose of the Historic Motor Sports Association is to encourage the restoration, preservation and use of historic, sports and racing cars. Our events and races are for fun with nothing to be won. Satisfaction and camaraderie among friends is the reward. Our serious interest is in the cars. We want to see old cars with racing history RESTORED. Today many believe the term restore means, "...to make new". Webster says, "restore... to bring back to a former condition. We accept the latter. The enjoyment for us is in driving and experiencing the cars as they were. To support that we arrange our race groups by age and their engine size. Modern technology can make vast improvements in performance possible but that is not our desire and our rules are written with the intent to prevent such modification. We want the cars to be as they were not what they could have been. Restoration, Preservation and Use. Our events are not intended to offer individuals a "career option". There are other professional organizations which would be a better choice. HMSA is for the less driven (excuse the pun). Driving well is important, winning is not. Safety is very important and driving is a major contribution. Racing at any level can be dangerous. We, therefore, have rules and regulations which we hope will be helpful in making your participation both enjoyable and safe. As an overview, we divide safety into two categories: Car and Driver. An old car cannot be made as safe as a modern car. A McLaren with a monocoque tub is definitely safer in a crash than an M.G., Ferrari or Bugatti.
