The Wrexham i-Tree Eco project is the first of its kind in and aims to quantify the value to society of the trees in the area using sophisticated valuation software developed in the United States.

Wrexham was selected as the first area in Wales to take part in the i-Tree Eco project because of its work with Forestry Commission Wales on the development of an inventory of urban trees in Wales. The Council’s Arboricultural Officer, Moray Simpson, said:- “This seemed like the logical next step. We’re a proactive Council when it comes to our trees, but in planning a strategy for the management of our urban forest, we need to know what we’ve got first. “It’s more important than ever to understand the structure and value of our green infrastructure, so that we can plan to ensure ’s towns are pleasant, sustainable and prosperous places to live and work. “By placing a value on the benefits to society of our urban trees, the importance of this resource can be made tangible to policy makers, local communities and businesses.” A copy of the research summary and information on Wrexham’s Urban Trees, together with recommendations for planting a wider variety of species to decrease the risk of existing trees and identifying a further 28% of urban land in the Borough could be planted with trees was considered at the October 2014 Community Council meeting.

Launch of the Acton Dog Fouling Group - Tuesday 23 September 2014: Acton Community Council has launched an initiative aimed at tackling the ongoing issues in the area surrounding dog fouling.

The launch of the Acton Dog Fouling Group took place outside Barkers Lane School. The group, made up of members of the Community Council, council officers and local PCSOs, walked a short distance through Acton Park and towards Acton School, highlighting any dog mess on route with “magic spray”.

Dog fouling is one of the major issues residents of the Acton community regularly raise with the Community Council and the local County Borough Councillors, so the initiative is a response aiming to tackle the problem once and for all.

Working alongside Wrexham Council officers, the Community Council has enlisted the support of the local primary and secondary schools, offering pupils the chance to design posters to display across the local wards which will hopefully help eradicate the issue.

The winning poster designs will receive recognition and an award at a presentation event to be held in December.

Throughout 2015, a selection of the best posters will be on display in prominent places across Acton, reminding dog owners to remain vigilant and pick up their dog’s mess. After a period of time, the group will walk the same route again and hope the campaign has reduced the amount of dog fouling taking place in the area.
