Vivaldi Dylan Latvala, violin Welcome, Introduction Lighting of the Christ Candle & Call to Worship Lord’s Prayer (audio recording) -Jennifer Wilson Today’s Theme Anthem: “For the Beauty of the Earth - Setting by Wendy Lynn Stevens Amanda Lee, violin and Lydia Pedersen, piano with the RYRUC Senior Choir (from a Sunday service recording, September 22, 2019) For the beauty of the earth, for the glory of the skies For the love which from our birth over and around us lies Christ our God, to Thee we raise this our joyful hymn of grateful praise. For the wonder of each hour, of the day and of the night Hill and vale and tree and flow'r, sun and moon and stars of light Christ our God, to Thee we raise this our hymn of grateful praise. For the joy of human love, brother, sister, parent, child, Friends on earth and friends above, for all gentle thoughts and mild, Christ our God, to Thee we raise this our hymn of grateful praise. Scripture Readings: 1 Samuel 8:4-9, 19-20; Mark 3:31-35 - Stephen Lu Context Reflection Hymn (audio recording) “Who Is My Mother” (Alex Bowie) - MV 178 Who is my mother, who is my brother? All those who gather round Jesus Christ: Spirit blown people born from the Gospel sit at the table, round Jesus Christ. Differently abled, differently labelled, widen the circle round Jesus Christ: crutches and stigmas, culture’s enigmas, all come together round Jesus Christ. Love will relate us colour or status can’t segregate us round Jesus Christ: family failings, human derailings all are accepted round Jesus Christ. Bound by one vision, met for one mission we claim each other, round Jesus Christ: here is my mother, here is my brother, kindred in Spirit, through Jesus Christ. Homiletic Reflection Hymn (audio recording) “When Hands Reach Out Beyond Divides” (Alex Bowie) - MV 169 When hands reach out beyond divides and hope is truly found, each chain of hate will fall away and bells of peace shall sound, and bells of peace, of peace shall sound, and bells of peace shall sound, each chain of hate will fall away and bells of peace shall sound. When fear no longer guides our steps and days of war are done, God’s dream for all shall live anew; our hearts will heal as one, our hearts will heal, will heal as one, our hearts will heal as one, God’s dream for all shall live anew; our hearts will heal as one. When race and creed blind us no more, a neighbour’s face we’ll see, and we shall dance the whole world round, for love will set us free, for love, yes love will set us free, for love will set us free, and we shall dance the whole world round, for love will set us free. Offering Focus and Prayers Benediction Sung Blessing (audio recording) “May the Peace of Christ Be with You” (Alex Bowie) - Japanese blessing, arr. Lori True May the peace of Christ be with you. May the love of Christ dwell deep in your heart. May the Spirit enlighten your way. May you walk in the comfort of God's care. He reports that there are over 250 lots up for auction and he is very excited about the sale which will be open from June 10-17 through www.sydenhamauction.com. (The auction house is donating their service.) Items vary from bikes, office equipment, housewares – like a big yard sale. And several talented artists have also offered 5 handmade quilts! Many of you are probably already familiar with how these on-line auctions work and will be eager to check out the items. If you are not sure how it works, you can contact me ([email protected]) and I will forward instructions. This would be a very fun way to support a good cause. The one challenge is that all the items are being housed in Meaford – but if you are successful, it will certainly be worth the drive up north.
