Topaz Quartet is made up of two violins, a cello and a viola. Our “mix and match” approach allows for versatility and variety in our program. We perform many different genres, ranging from classical music to arrangements of popular songs and movie soundtracks. The Topaz Chamber Quartet is pleased to bring our diverse repertoire of chamber music to all audiences, especially seniors. We have performed benefit concerts for seniors and we perform monthly at a Saratoga retirement home. Chelsie Park, violin (Founder, Topaz Chamber Quartet) was raised in the Bay Area and goes to Henry M. Gunn High School. She was selected to participate in numerous festivals such as the California Orchestra Directors Association Honor Symphony Orchestra Winter Festival in 2015, California Orchestra Directors Association High School All State Symphony in 2016, and the MTAC Autumn Festival. She attended Summer Music West where she studied chamber music with a mentor from the San Francisco Symphony in the San Francisco Conservatory. Most recently, she won first place in the American Protégé International Competition and first place in the Golden Era of Romantic Music International Competition. She was also selected to play in the Junior Bach festival of 2017. Young Jin Lee, cello, a sophomore at Gunn High School, started playing when he was ten and is currently studying with Mr.Christopher Costanza. In 2017, Young Jin Lee was a 1st place winner in “The Music of 18th Century” and a 2nd place winner in “The Music of 17th Century.” He won 1st place in the 2017 San Francisco International Music Innovative Competition and 2nd place in The 14th Korea Times Annual Youth Music Competition of 2017. This year he is principal cellist of the Henry M. Gunn High School Chamber Orchestra, which will be performing at the 2018 ASTA National conference. Seyon Kim: violin, is a sophomore at Archbishop Mitty High School. She started playing the violin in 2nd grade and currently studies with Pat Burnham. She participates in her school orchestra and is a violinist in the San Francisco Symphony Youth Orchestra. Seyon also went on the Europe tour with the Senior Symphony of the El Camino Youth Symphony as a co-principal second violinist in 2017. Seyon participated in the Korean-American Music Supporters’ Association Youth Orchestra for the past 2 years as well as the California All State Honor Orchestra. In 2012, she received the third place award in the Korea Times Competition and the 2nd place in Music Teachers Association California in Santa Clara Branch in 2015. Hyewon Ahn: violin, is a freshman at Henry M. Gunn High School. She started her music career by playing piano, and switched to violin when she was seven years old. She is currently a member of her high school’s orchestra and Chamber Orchestra, and a member of the California Youth Symphony Senior Orchestra. In 2016, she was selected to play in the CMEA Bay Section Winter Conference Orchestra. In 2017, she was accepted to play in the CODA All-State Junior High School String Orchestra as the co-concertmaster. Earlier this school year, she also played at the CODA Honors Symphony Orchestra.
