The Newington College Secondary Teacher Education Scholarship 2019 ELIGIBILITY 1) You are completing your degree in regular mode (i.e. the scholarship is not available to accelerated mode students). 2) You are undertaking your final year in 2019 in one of the following programs in the UTS School of Education: • Master of Teaching (Secondary) or BA/BEd (Secondary) with areas of study leading to teaching in secondary subjects that are part of Newington College’s curriculum ABOUT NEWINGTON COLLEGE Newington College was founded on the Wesleyan Christian traditions of faith, diversity, inclusiveness, and service to others. As a non-selective independent school, Newington College provides for boys from Kindergarten to Year 12, across its three distinct campuses: Wyvern Prep in Stanmore, Kindergarten to Year Six Lindfield Prep in Sydney’s Northern Suburbs, Kindergarten to Year Six The Stanmore Campus, Year 7 to Year 12 The Stanmore campus leads students to differentiated learning pathways in their senior years by offering the choice of the NSW Higher School Certificate, the International Baccalaureate Diploma or designated vocational (VET) pathways for students. For further information on Newington College, please visit the website at www.newingtoncollege.nsw.edu.au Scholarships at Newington College The Teacher Education Scholarship is provided by Newington College and offers a unique opportunity to work closely with the school. The Newington College Scholarship is valued at $11,500 for one year only and will be awarded to a student with a strong academic record who will contribute to the curricular and co-curricular life of Newington College over 2019. During 2019, the recipient will have the opportunity to be fully involved in the life of the College embedded in an academic department mentored by an experienced teacher, well-being programs, the co-curricular life and access to all professional learning at Newington College. The recipient will spend time at the College split approximately 50/50 between academic roles within their specialist academic area and involvement in a co-curricular activity. It will equate to around 1 to 1.5 days per week flexibly negotiated around university commitments. The recipient will be expected to complete their placement that is part of Professional Experience 2: Classroom Management (MTeach students) or placements that are part of Professional Experience 5 and 6 (BA/BEd students). Preference will be given to students who can contribute to both curriculum and co- curriculum areas within the School. CONTINUATION Is dependent on maintaining a high academic standard, and the recipient must achieve satisfactory progress in practical experience and professional studies throughout the degree program. (Please refer to www.newingtoncollege.nsw.edu.au to see the range of co-curricular activities). 3) A copy of relevant degree transcripts. 4) One written referee report from an academic in the UTS School of Education, on the referee template as provided to UTS academic staff. 5) A copy of your Professional Experience 1 report (MTeach students) or copies of each Professional Experience Report (BA/BEd students).
