To a rally driver it’s an all out, day or night race on an unknown dirt road, trying by sheer concentration to blend a high-strung, production based race car and the road into an unbeatable stage time. To a co-driver it’s the thrill of the world’s greatest amusement park ride, combined with the challenge of performing with great mental accuracy under the most physi- cally demanding conditions. For the spectator it’s a view of the most exciting and demanding of motor sports. Around the world, rallying is wildly popular, attracting huge crowds that line the roads at every event in the FIA World Rally Championship. In a performance rally, each team consists of a driver and co-driver (navigator). The cars start at one or two-minute intervals and race at top speed against the clock over competition stages.

Rod Millen Special Vehicles Successfully Supports Design and Demonstration of Unmanned Ground Combat Vehicle Rod Millen Special Vehicles, along with Lockheed Martin, has designed, built and demonstrated an advanced military ground vehicle envisioned for battlefield reconnaissance. (PRWEB) April 11, 2003 -- Huntington Beach, CA  March 28, 2003  Rod Millen Special Vehicles (RMSV), in partnership with Lockheed Martin, has successfully designed and demonstrated a new, highly- mobile vehicle called the Unmanned Ground Combat Vehicle (UGCV) that is envisioned for the U.S. military for scouting and relaying intelligence. The demonstration took place at Sandia National Laboratories near Albuquerque, NM, earlier this year. Through a Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) contract issued to Lockheed Martin in 2002, RMSV is responsible for vehicle design integration, mobility analysis, suspension design and construction, chassis design and construction, vehicle suspension control electronics and overall vehicle assembly. The UGCV is designed to navigate over large natural, urban and battlefield obstacles, sustain itself with hybrid electric power for long periods, and continue to operate after accidental roll-over. ÂThe specialized research, experience, and skills of our company blend perfectly with the needs of this project. Pushing the limits of performance, technology and ourselves  thatÂs what we are all about, said Rod Millen, founder and president of RMSV. The design and construction of the vehicle draw on advanced aerospace and racing technology. The carbon fiber and Kevlar composite chassis provides a robust, lightweight housing for vehicle systems and payload. A suspension system of six independent 360° rotating arms enables the vehicle to climb over obstacles greater than 150% of the tire diameter, as well as perform other mobility feats not possible with conventional vehicles.

  • Volkswagen Da Leggenda Sulla Vetta Di Pikes Peak

The Pikes Peak International Hill Climb A Quick History Commissioned by Thomas Jefferson to explore the Great Plains, Lt. Zebulon Pike first saw Pikes Peak in 1806 from the eastern portion of today’s Colorado in 1806. As he approached the magnificent peak, rising abruptly from the plains, Pike swore this 14,114-foot mountain would never be conquered by man. Zebulon Pike never scaled the mountain which bears his name. But today, Pikes Peak has been climbed by tourists from all over the world in cars, on horseback, on foot, on motorcycle and bicycle. Most visitors are overcome by its beauty, including Katherine Lee Bates, who was inspired by the view from the summit to compose America the Beautiful in 1893. Pike could have imagined neither motorcars nor the automobile race course which would conclude at the summit of his peak a little over a century after his first sighting. By 1900, a carriage road had been built. On August 12, 1901, two 1 Denver men named Yont and Felker were the first to drive to the top. Their trip in a two-cylinder Locomobile Steamer took just over nine hours and was accomplished by pushing as well as driving their motorcar. Spencer Penrose, one of Colorado Springs’ city’s major benefactors, realized the tourist potential of such a beautiful landmark. In 1915 Penrose finished converting the narrow carriage road into the Pikes Peak Highway. In order to publicize his adopted hometown and his new road he devised a simple plan; run an automobile race to the summit of Pikes Peak on the new highway.
