Many of you will have seen coverage in the press over the last few months regarding the introduction of a charging regime for vehicles using the sites. Park and Ride is important for many people in getting to Cambridge City centre. Whilst County Councillors, when making the decision, made it clear they would prefer to keep the sites free, given the financial challenges facing the Council and the fact that the sites cost £1m a year to run, they felt this is the right way forward. Use of Park and Ride still compares very favourably with parking in Cambridge itself and it will remain that way. In light of the continuing financial situation it is necessary to look at all aspects of Council services to ensure we maximise our income whilst at the same time retaining efficient and cost effective services to the public. All vehicles parking at any of the 5 Park & Ride sites in Cambridge will have a 1 hour free period. This will enable people to drop-off and pick-up for free, to allow for customers of the John Lewis distribution centre based at Trumpington to pick up their purchases for free, and for the parents to drop and pick up their children at the sites for the various Kiss & Ride school minibus services. Any vehicles staying for more than 1 hour will be liable for a £1 charge. This ticket will be purchased from ticket machines outside the main buildings on the sites. The ticket can be purchased at the same time as a ticket for bus travel bus and does not need to be displayed in the vehicle. The £1 ticket will allow for the parking of one vehicle for up to 18 hours. You will note that the original limit was set at 12 hours. Following valuable feedback from customers this time limit has been extended to cater for shift workers and those wishing to benefit from late night shopping in the City. Should the customer wish to park for longer there is a set tariff of charging as follows: Between 18 and 24 hours £10 Between 24 and 48 hours £20 Between 48 and 72 hours £30 72 hours is the maximum permitted stay. Discounts are available for those wishing to purchase parking in advance on-line or via a mobile phone. The prices for between 1 and 18 hours parking are as follows: Weekly £5 (up to 7 days) 4 Weekly £18 Annual £230 The current timetable for the introduction of the new system will see the charges being introduced during mid May 2014. If for any reason the program is amended, this will be communicated to members of the public. Yours sincerely Campbell Ross-Bain Bus Operations & Facilities Manager 10th March 2014 Consultative Committee Meeting – Wednesday 16th April 2014 You are invited to the next meeting of the Consultative Committee: this will commence at 7.00pm on 16th April 2014 at the clubhouse of the Cambridge Gliding Centre (CGC). MATTERS ARISING There were no matters arising. CHAIRMAN ’S REPORT The Chairman reported that the weather had been poor during the winter but better during the summer from a flying point of view and the club has had a reasonably good year. In addition membership numbers have recovered well from a low point at the end of the last season. The appeal by Coriolis Energy against the earlier rejection of their planning application for a meteorological mast at Arrington was held recently. The Cambridge Gliding Club (with others) objected to the appeal and the Inspector rejected the appeal on October 8 th . COMPLAINTS RECEIVED SINCE LAST MEETING A total of 8 complaints were received over the summer. Six of these were from Mr Steel of the High Street, Caxton, one was from a resident of Arrington and one from a resident of Waresley. A field of 35 to 40 gliders is expected. This will overlap with the Little Gransden airshow which is scheduled for Sunday 24 th but procedures will be in place to avoid any conflict between the two events. Prior to this year’s Regional competition the club circulated a poster explaining the event to local PCs. The club Secretary asked if this had been considered useful and if it should be repeated this year. It was agreed that it had and a similar poster will be distributed prior to the 2014 competition. ANY OTHER BUSINESS Mr Lister Wilson is no longer a Councillor with Cambridgeshire County Council. Nevertheless the committee welcomed his attendance at this and future meetings. The Secretary will contact Mervyn Loynes to determine who the representative should be. DATE OF NEXT MEETING 16th April 2014 at 19:00 hrs at the Cambridge Gliding Centre, Gransden Lodge.
