DISTRICT

Halych district is situated on the border of two physiographic regions: the Ukrainian Carpathians and southwestern part of the East European Plain. The territory belongs to Naddniprianskyi agro-climatic subzone. It is characterized by the moderate continental climate and mostly plain. The district is located in the north of Ivano-Frankivsk region. Halych district occupies an area formed at the border of two regions: Iwano-Frankivsk and . From northwest to southeast the district crosses the Dnister river. From south to north-west is the highway of international importance: Mukachevo-Ivano-Frankivsk-Halych - and railway Ivano-Frankivsk – Lviv. Geographically area is very conveniently located at the crossroads of transport routes.

The rafting has all hallmarks of the nice summer holiday: the unity with nature, journey in the floating rhythm of the calm flow of the Dnister River and relaxation dynamics. The region is rich in the main natural resources: lands, forests and natural recreational territories. They account for the 96.6 percentage of the natural wealth in the district. Casova (Hora) Mountain is the biggest steppe area of Western Podillia. The botanists describe it as an etalon of the western steppes in the region. Casova Mountain flora includes more than 300 species of the vascular plants. There are numerous relict, endemic, rare and endangered plant species, such as feather grass, Pulsatilla patens, spring Adonis, Platanthera chlorantha, etc.

CITY OF HALYCH - DISTRICT CENTRE City of Halych is 24 km (by road) and 26 (by railway) of Ivano-Frankivsk. City of Halych consists of three parts: Halych-Centre, Halych- Hora and Halych-Zarika. Halych is the city that gave its name to the whole region and is known worldwide. The first mention of Halych dates back to 898. There was a destiny and it was one of the most powerful places of the Ukrainian statehood, the princely town, emerged here, on the banks of the grey-haired Dnister River, to which the annalistic Limnytsia River and Lukva River run in. Halych, a city of sub-township level, is located on the banks of the Dnister River. Here in Halych the flaming Ukrainian spirit was cherished. It was hardened in fierce battles for our land, forged by the will of our brave and wise Halician princes, surrounded with glory of Halician regiments, and acquired a new lease of life in the words of Halician chronicles and gospels. KEY INDUSTRY OF HALYCH DISTRICT Industry The industrial sector of the district is represented by the enterprises of timber manufacturing industry as well as production and supply of electricity, natural gas, heat and water. The district has six manufacturing facilities, namely: Halychvodokanal CP, Haltekhnopark Ltd., Elita PVZKP, Halfera Ltd., Driada IF Ltd. and Halychteploservice RKP. Thanks for conducted work it was succeeded to provide the volume of product sales in 2015 for the sum of 160,1million. Among the sold products the greatest volume is accounts for PZVK "Elite" (meat processing)- 44,2 percent to the general exponent of the region.

Small enterprise actively promotes development of economy of the region, filling of the budget, creation of new workplaces, implementation of important social programs, attraction of investments. As of 01. 10. 2016 in the Halytch district 1014 self-employed persons are registered. In 2015 162 small and 6 medium-sized enterprises acted in the region, in terms of 10 thousand people of the population made 37 units. NATURAL POTENTIAL OF THE DISTRICT

According to heobotanical zoning the district of Halych is situated within the Central European province of the European broad leaves forests heobotanical region.Left bank part of the district belongs to Kremenets -Khotyn county of West Ukrainian subprovince, and right bank one – to -Ivano-Frankivsk county of the mountain subprovince. The dominant type of vegetation are oak and beech groves. Besides, maple and sycamore, linden, ashtree, elm, beech, fir tree can be found. Nowadays forests cover 11,5 thousand ha or 16 % of the area. They are mainly derivative oak and oak - hornbeam, beech woods. The herbage in the forests is thick and rich of species. They are mlytsya common, hairy sedge, Galium odoratum, Orlyk, starwort forest and five species listed in the Red Book of – lily forest, scopoliya karpialitska, Atropa belladonna, Platanthera bifolia, Cephalanthera rubra. The group of species-relics of the preglacial period make particularly attractive the vegetation of medow steppe areas. Here, in particular, on Kasova mount the preglacial groups of vivsyunets desert, thyme Podolsk, celery heyflerov have been preserved.

Water resources

Water resources of the district are represented by surface waters (rivers, ponds, water reservoirs) and ground waters. Total area of territories covered with water is 2123 ha, among them the rivers have 1133 ha,closed natural reservoirs- 116ha, ponds - 534 ha, other lands - 339 ha (reclamation channels). Along the district territory there flows the river Dnister. Two kilometres away from Halych, one of the cleanest and the most picturesque European rivers the Limnytsya flows into the Dnister. The river is a valuable source of the pure drinking water nowadays and for the future, it has favourable conditions for living, spawning and development of the precious fish species. The entire length of the river Limnytsya valley is valuable in esthetical and recreational relation. And the largest left tributary of the Dn iester is the Hnyla Lypa. It self has some tributaries – the Naraivka, the Studenyi Potik. In the watershed of the Naraivka, the Studenyi Potik there is a well- known deposit of the precious ground waters. The waters of this deposit pour out for themselves and do not need big costs for their output.

In the Halych district there number up 22 deposits of mineral resources (cement raw material, ground mineral and fresh waters, brick-tiling raw material and sandy-gravel mixture). The data about mineral resources deposits are presented in the table:

Forest resources

The total area of forest of (Galician) Halych district is 12222,2 hectares, including forest covered land - 11079,2 hectares. The average age of plantations is 53, the average creditworthiness is 1.3(this is on 0,3 below optimal).The average completeness of plantations is 0.72 below optimal. In forest foundation there prevail the plantations of oak and beech(in accordance with 54.6 and 19.7% forest covered land). Low creditworthiness plantings on the territory of Halych district increases on the area 104.7 ha (or 0.9% forest covered land) mainly on hard soils.

Growing of planting material in the district in recent years is average 0,3 million pieces.

Protected Areas Halych national park was established by the Decree of the President of Ukraine on August 9, 2004, within the Halych district of Ivano- Frankivsk region, for the aim of the conservation, reproduction and rational management of typical and unique forest, meadow-steppe and wetland natural complexes and objects that have special environmental, scientific, historical, cultural, recreational, educational and aesthetic values, which is under the jurisdiction of the State Forest Resources Agency of Ukraine.

The park is located on the border of two physics and geographical countries: Ukrainian Carpathians (Precarpathians region) and the south-western part of the East European Plain (Opillya region of Western Province Forest-Steppe zone). Through this arrangement for the territory is intrinsic huge landscape and biological diversity. In vegetation and fauna there occur among both Podilski and Carpathian species. On the territory of the park there are 45 plant species and37 animal species, that are representatives of the Red Book of Ukraine,4 and 9 of the European Red List and 6 plant species and 158 animal species protected under the Berne convention. More than 40 in the scientific, nature-conservative and recreational natural complexes(forest tracts covering about 11,000 hectares of wetland complexes-2250 ha, meadow and steppe areas and geological formation) are part of Galician (Halych) National Park . In the most interesting parts of the park there are hiking, ecological and cognitive trails. One of the most valuable objects of district is a complex natural monument of national importance “mount Kasova ” with area 65 hectares, in the village Bovshiv. This picturesque ridge height of 350 meter above sea level, characterized by a rare combination of rocky hills and gypsum cliffs stretching along the left bank of the reservoir . Mount Kasova is one of the largest centers of Western Podillia, that is described by botanists as standard Western steppes. Flora of mount Kasova includes more than 300 species plants including relict, endemic, rare and endangered-feather, pasque flower, adonis spring, lbochky creeping and cornflower ternopilska, etc. DISTRICT INVESTMENT PROPOSALS To attract investments to the economy of the district there have been developed three investment projects. 1.
