We hope we’ve given you all the information you’ll need before the convention (or at least pointed you in the right direction). If we’ve done our job correctly, you won’t have any trouble getting to or finding your way around the con once you’re there. As with any NASFiC, TuckerCon has gone through several challenges and changes since we won the bid, but we haven’t lost sight of our original goal – to give you the best possible convention for your money. Our programming and gaming departments are busily putting together an exhausting schedule that will rival any convention – local, regional, national, or world-level. Our masquerade and art show departments will again put on professional-class events, and all the other departments are working diligently to bring you the best experience you’ve ever had at a con. We hope you’re looking forward to TuckerCon as much as we are. As Co-Chairs, we’re looking forward to seeing you and sharing our con (Archon) with you. – Steve Norris, Chair / Michelle Zellich, Co-Chair What’s Up and Where’s It At? St. Louis Science Fiction, Ltd., hosts of just off exit 11 on I-55/I-70 (11 miles east of St. Archon, St. Louis' premier SF/Fantasy Louis/Mississippi river). convention, is hosting TuckerCon/Archon 31, the 2007 North American Science Fiction Convention For up-to-the-minute details, logon to the (9th NASFiC), since the Worldcon has been TuckerCon/Archon 31/NASFIC Homepage: awarded to a non-North American site http://www.archonstl.org/31/ (Yokohama, Japan). To allow out-of-town families to attend before Fall school sessions begin, we rescheduled the 2007 convention for a four-day weekend two months earlier than usual -- 2-5 August instead of our usual first weekend in October. This will place our St. Louis area convention a month before the Yokohama Worldcon, instead of a month after the Worldcon if we had scheduled our normal weekend. Kevin Wagner Murphy (born November 3, 1956 in River Forest, Illinois) is a United States actor and puppeteer. For eleven years he was a writer for the Peabody Award-winning comedy series Mystery Science Theater 3000, for nine of those years playing and operating Tom Servo, one of the show's puppet characters. During the final three years of the series he additionally portrayed Professor Bobo, a talking mountain gorilla in the style of Planet of the Apes. After taking over the role of Servo, an anonymous person sent him a six-foot long banner that read "I HATE TOM SERVO'S NEW VOICE." Flattered by the enormous amount of effort taken to heckle him, Murphy hung the banner in his office for over a year. After the end of MST3K, Murphy spent the year 2001 going to a different movie every day (including September 11) and wrote a book about this experience, entitled A Year at the Movies: One Man's Filmgoing Odyssey (ISBN 0-06-093786-6). During his year at the movies, Murphy samples theaters from small-town boxes to urban megaplexes, attempts (and rejects) a theater food diet, suffers a kidney stone, visits both the Sundance and Cannes film festivals, sneaks Thanksgiving dinner into a showing of Monsters, Inc., and records all of these experiences, both good and bad. His feat — viewing 360+ films on four continents — was mentioned in Ripley's Believe It or Not. Murphy holds a B.A. in Journalism and an M.A. in Directing for the Stage and Screen, both from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Murphy lives in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area with his wife, Jane. Starting in 2006, Murphy has joined Michael J. Nelson on several audio commentaries for Nelson's RiffTrax service. A Free Pre-Con Event!! Bill Corbett For four years Mr. Corbett was a writer for Mystery Science Theater 3000 on the Sci-Fi Channel, and previously on Comedy Central. He was nominated for a Cable Ace Award in 1997 for Best Comedy Writing. He was also an actor on the show, providing the voice of the robot "Crow" and performing various other characters. His other plays include Heckler; Ridiculous Dreaming (an adaptation of Heinrich Boll's The Clown, commissioned and produced by the Guthrie Theater in Minneapolis); Hate Mail (co- written with Kira Obolensky), produced by Primary Stages in New York and numerous other theaters; Down the Pike, winner of the Actors Theater of Louisville National One-Act Contest; short plays Manifesto and Hunters, produced by the HBO Writers Project in Los Angeles; Cash Karma, first produced by the Organic Theater in Chicago; and Motorcade, produced at theaters in the U.S., Canada, and Japan. • Dear Cinematic Titan
4/26/2017 Dear Cinematic Titanic ****** CINEMATIC TITANIC. Dear Joel, Josh, Trace, Mary Jo, Frank, and Anson Williams: This is an open invitation to come riff with us. Any, or all of you; whenever mutually convenient. There will be snacks. One of you has already done so. She even rejoined your august group for more of your own work, none worse for the wear. (We hope… But please do check with her.) We tried to get a game going already, but to be fair… you needed to launch before doing anything else. And that you did, with great fanfare and success. Bravo, sirs. And lady. Now that you’re very much afloat — we’d like you all to know, on the record*, that our door** is open. Come and play. We’re not going away anytime soon, and neither are you. Shooting one of your episodes takes longer, with its visual component, we understand. But when your schedule lightens up, and you’re between shoots, come do a Rifftrax with us in the meantime. Any of you — even Mary Jo. (Really MJ, we’ll have an actual chair for you this time.) Lots of movies out there, lots of riffer combinations possible, and many schedulefriendly shorts still beg for riffing. We could even do a flash animation of some sort. It boggles the mind! To repeat: there will be snacks. Of fairly decent quality. Not amazing, but really… fairly decent, all in all. Life is too short to pretend that our fellow MST3K alums don’t exist. That might be awkward anyway, if we run into each other at some big event wearing the same outfit.

THAT STATEMENT CONNECTS the modern Steam Punk Movement, The Jetsons, Metropolis, Disney's Tomorrowland, and the other items that we are celebrating this weekend. Some of those past futures were unpleasant: the Days of Future Past of the X-Men are a shadow of a future that the adult Kate Pryde wanted to avoid when she went back to the present day of the early 1980s. Others set goals and dreams; the original Star Trek gave us the dreams and goals of a bright and shiny future t h a t h a v e i n s p i r e d generations of scientists and engineers. Robert Heinlein took us to the Past through Tomorrow in his Future History series, and Asimov's Foundation built planet-wide cities and we collect these elements of the past for the future. We love the fashion of the Steampunk movement; and every year someone is still asking for their long-promised jet pack. We take the ancient myths of the past and reinterpret them for the present and the future, both proving and making them still relevant today. Science Fiction and Fantasy fandom is both nostalgic and forward-looking, and the whole contradictory nature is in this year's theme. Many of the years that previous generations of writers looked forward to happened years ago; 1984, 1999, 2001, even 2010. The assumptions of those time periods are perhaps out-of-date; technology and society have passed those stories by, but there are elements that still speak to us today. It is said that the Golden Age of Science Fiction is when you are 13.
