  • Domaine Roulot
DOMAINE ROULOT Country: France Region: Burgundy Appellation(s): Bourgogne Aligoté, Bourgogne, Monthelie, Auxey Duresses, Meursault Producer: Jean-Marc Roulot Founded: ca 1930 Annual Production: N/A Farming: Organic (since 2000) Website: N/A Guy Roulot, a legendary producer of some of the finest Meursaults, if not some of the world’s finest white wines, took his family’s small production domaine to stardom. Guy’s marriage to Geneviève Coche and his own hard work added more prime parcels to the family’s holdings, which he vinified and bottled separately – a novelty for a domaine which had been distilling, rather than vinifying, their grapes just a generation before. As a result, Domaine Roulot has become the master of the lieu- dit, not to mention the five premier cru parcels they farm in Meursault and Monthelie. Guy’s sudden death in 1982 left the family in transition, as his son, Jean-Marc was in Paris pursuing a career in acting. A series of three winemakers aided in the changeover until 1989, when Jean-Marc was at last ready to take on the direction of the estate. Since then, Jean-Marc’s progress has brought even more notice to a domaine that had already enjoyed such a great reputation. The wines of Domaine Roulot are now among the most sought after wines in all of Burgundy. Jean-Marc has been successful in fine-tuning the domaine’s particular, stand-out style. While Domaine Roulot had once pioneered the single-vineyard bottlings of Meursault, they were now influencing other domaines to follow suit, thereby raising the stakes in this exalted appellation.

  • France Few Regions Can Claim the Fame and Admiration That Burgundy BURGUNDY Has Enjoyed Since the Second Century
France Few regions can claim the fame and admiration that Burgundy BURGUNDY has enjoyed since the second century. Comprised of the Chablis, Côte d’Or, Côte Chalonnaise, Mâconnais and Beaujolais regions, Burgundy occupies a long and narrow stretch of vineyards in eastern France. The critical effect of terroir in Burgundy is expressed in its complex classification system. • Vineyards are divided into separate appellations along terroir France boundaries; the full range of classification levels from broadest to the most distinguished follows: District (e.g. Beaujolais or Chablis), Village (e.g. Pommard), Premier Cru (e.g. Pommard les Rugiens) and Grands Cru (e.g. Clos Vougeot). • As a result of Burgundy’s rules of inheritance, vineyard ownership is quite fragmented, with multiple owners for most crus. The Clos de Vougeot vineyard, for example, is split between 80 different owners. • Though soils vary, clay and limestone predominate in the Côte d’Or and granite is common in Beaujolais. • “En Côte D'or, Établie Au Coeur Du Village De Saint-Aubin, Notre Famille

  • 150Th Wine Sale of the Hospices De Beaune
150TH WINE SALE OF THE HOSPICES DE BEAUNE 21 NOVEMBER 2010 - The Hospices de Beaune and Christie’s are celebrating the 150th Wine Sale in China. - A new Cuvée : Santenay «Cuvée Christine Friedberg» - A famous Cuvée changes its name in honor of the King Louis XIV : « Cuvée du Roi Soleil » FROM BEAUNE TO BEIJIN China at the heart of the 150th Hospices de Beaune Wine Auction Two parts of the world each with a great history meet again: China and France, and in particular the renowned wine region Burgundy. This time, our two cultures are to meet thanks to a heritage which is becoming more and more universal: wine. At the heart of Burgundy, Beaune is the Capital City of wine, and the Hospices de Beaune Domaine stands as its incomparable and irreplaceable emblem. Since the 15th Century, Beaune and Hospices wines have been conveying the very special taste of our land. For the last 150 years, these wines have been reaching the rest of the world thanks to a charity auction. At the same time, we have been fortunate enough to have the chance to sample numerous varieties of the finest Chinese teas - something that our friends in China have for centuries been enjoying. We therefore know that you are sensitive to subtle nuances, and will appreciate the various expressions of our 'Climats', our vineyard plots. I look forward to seeing our worlds coming together more often, where we can rely on our common language, the language of wine. Alain Suguenot, President, Hospices de Beaune MP and Mayor of Beaune TO FOLLOW IN JOSEPH PÉTASSE FOOTSTEPS In 1443, Nicolas Rollin, Chancellor of the Philip le Bon, Duke of Burgundy, built a hospital for the poor in Baune at his own expense.

MONTHELIE 2014 Château de Puligny-Montrachet COLOR: Red GRAPA VARIETY: Pinot Noir VINTAGE: 2014 SURFACE AREA: 0.93 Hectares PRODUCTION : 325 caisses (12 x 750ml) % WHOLE GRAPES: 50% % NEW BARRELS: 0% ALCOHOL : 12.5% VOL PH : 3.55 The appellation The village of Monthélie, nestled between Volnay and Meursault, is one of the prettiest of the vinicultural landscape. It can be spotted at a distance with its beautiful slope covered with vines planted to both red and white. The wines are vibrant, sweet with red fruit notes and often with a light touch of spice and minerality. For the medium-bodied reds, it is important to extract only noble tannins because the other kind can be overwhelming and hard. Our two parcels situated in the lieux dits "Les Plantes » (0.05 hectare) and "En Clous" (0.43 hectare) complement each other nicely. The first parcel is planted on the edge of a steep hillside looking toward the sunset while sitting on a marly and rocky soil that gives a fine, structured wine. The second benefits from a more profound and clay-heavy soil that brings more flesh and muscle. Our red Monthélie is an honest wine that translates with great authenticity and simplicity the quality of Burgundian Pinot Noir. Often vinified with whole cluster and aged in barrels – none of which are new, and sulphured very little, it proudly flies the colors of our Domaine. The wines, the style Domaine de Montille is known to craft wines with great aromatic purity, always favoring balance and elegance over power and extraction.
