“Tell the whole world about my inconceivable mercy.” Words of Jesus to Saint Faustina, the of (Diary 699)

Jesus promised “complete of sins and punishment” to those who turn to Him in trust and worthily receive Him in Holy Communion on , the Sunday after Easter.

Divine Mercy Sunday and the Extraordinary Grace Promised by Jesus:

On April 30, 2000, His Holiness John Paul II, in response to the wishes of the Christian faithful, declared that “the Second Sunday of Easter henceforth throughout the Church will also be called Divine Mercy Sunday.” The desire for this celebration was expressed by Our Lord to St. Faustina, and can be found recorded in her Diary.

… My daughter, tell the whole world about My inconceivable Mercy. I desire that the Feast of Mercy be a refuge and shelter for all , and especially for poor sinners. On that day the very depths of My tender Mercy are open. I pour out a whole ocean of graces upon those souls who approach the fount of My Mercy. The that will go to Confession,* and receive Holy Communion (on this day)** shall obtain complete forgiveness of sins and punishment.

On that day all the divine floodgates through which graces flow are opened. Let no soul fear to draw near to Me, even though its sins be as scarlet. My mercy is so great that no mind, be it of man or of angel, will be able to fathom it throughout all .

The Feast of Mercy emerged from My very depths of tenderness. It is my desire that it be solemnly celebrated on the first Sunday after Easter. Mankind will not have peace until it turns to the Fount of My Mercy. (Diary 699)

*Confession within a reasonable time before the Feast is sufficient. One must be in the state of grace to receive the extraordinary grace promised by Our Lord.

The Novena of Divine Mercy (Diary #1209-1228)

Our Divine Lord requested that we begin this Novena on and to end on the following Saturday in preparation for the Feast of Divine Mercy (Divine Mercy Sunday) which is the first Sunday after Easter. Jesus dictated the intentions and the order in which we are to pray for them. To make this nine day novena, recite one Chaplet of Mercy each day for the specific intention of the day. They are:

(Good Friday) – All mankind, especially sinners 2nd day – The souls of priests and religious 3rd day – All devout and faithful souls 4th day – The souls of pagans and those who do not yet know Me 5th day – Heretics and schismatics 6th day – Meek and humble souls and the souls of little children 7th day – Those who especially venerate and glorify My Mercy 8th day – The souls in Purgatory 9th day – Lukewarm and indifferent souls (This novena may be made at any time of the year to implore favors.)

Chaplet of Divine Mercy (To be said on ordinary Rosary beads)

Begin with: Our Father, Hail Mary & The Creed

Then on the Our Father beads you will say; Eternal Father, I offer Thee the Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity of Thy dearly beloved Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ, in atonement for our sins and the sins of the whole world.

On the Hail Mary beads you will say: For the sake of His Sorrowful Passion, have mercy on us and on the whole world.

In conclusion, three times you will recite: Holy , Holy Mighty One, Holy Immortal One, have mercy on us and on the whole world. (Diary #476)

Picture of The Divine Mercy

Paint an image according to the pattern you see, with the signature “Jesus, I Trust In You.” I desire that this image be venerated first in your Chapel, then throughout the whole world. I promise that the soul who will venerate this image will not perish. I also promise victory over its enemies already here on earth, especially at the hour of death. I Myself will defend it as My own glory. (Diary#47, 48) These two rays (in the image) issued forth from the very depths of My tender mercy when My agonized heart was opened b a lance on the Cross. These rays shield souls from the wrath of My Father. Happy is the one who will dwell in their shelter, for the just hand of God shall not lay hold o him. (#299)
