AThis year, SGASD had two programs selected to be honored: the Spring Grove Mini-THON and the New Salem Elementary Learning Garden!

The programs were selected by a committee of school administrators and University faculty and were based on the following criteria: they filled a generally recognized critical educational need; they utilized an innovative or creative approach; they were cost effective; they were easily replicable in another school setting; and they showed significant student improvement over a period of time.

The leaders of the two programs, Jessica O’Brien for Mini-THON and Amy Shaffer for the Learning Garden, were invited to the School Study Council to present their programs to School Study Council attendees and to students and faculty of the College of Education and Human Services. SGASD student groups, as well as a variety of community organizations, performed live. The SGASD Diversity Festival was originally developed by Spring Grove Area High School students with the goal of sharing and creating a cultural awareness in order to develop an understanding, respect, and value for all members of our community. The Diversity Festival planning is conducted by students, staff, and administra- tors from the K – 12 community at SGASD.

SG Mini-THON New Salem Elementary SGASD is extremely grateful to everyone who helped, donated, gave ideas and time, performed, and attended. Music & Theater York County Encore Awards Students from the SGAHS cast of The Secret Garden performed at the 2018 York County Encore Awards in competition with PMEA All-State Concert Band fifteen other participating school districts from across York County. Starting in December, Michael Eckersley competed against other high school trumpet players at County, District, and Regional levels. After the Regional Spring Grove proudly received the Festival in February, he was ranked 7th of all high school concert band trumpet “Outstanding Production Number” award players in the state of Pennsylvania! Michael is the first Spring Grove student for their presentation of “I Heard Someone to be accepted to participate in the PMEA All-State Concert Band Festival in Crying” and “Lily’s Eyes.” This is the almost 10 years.
