I teach American (ASL) to over 60 students a semester. Throughout my career at UT, my class enrollment capacity has consistently been at capacity. Since summer of 2013, I have been collaborating with the ASL team on developing a curriculum for ASL 601D, which is our first­semester course. We are currently working on the curriculum for our new second­semester course, ASL 610D. In the spring semester of 2014 (Course: 610D), I worked with Vance Young, who fulfilled the internship requirements through his graduate ASL program at . During this successful internship process, I observed his teaching activities and provided many suggestions and ideas with him. Through my observations and my numerous meetings with Vance, I was able to ensure that students continued to receive excellent instruction through this process.

Teacher, August 1993 ­ August 2007

I used Signing Naturally curriculum and Bravo Signing Video with families during regular home visits. I provided a wealth of video resources to demonstrate many ways for families to use ASL with deaf/hard­of­hearing babies. I introduced Sharing Reading Project with families. This project encouraged families to sign while reading books with their babies.

Instructor, Communication Skills Workshop, 1992 to 1997 & 2003 to 2013

I introduced different topics, including fingerspelling, conceptually correct signs, and basic ASL grammars. I discussed various aspects of . I worked with a large number of interpreters, teachers, and students from various areas in Texas.

Speaker, 1993 ­ present

I am frequently invited to speak at conference and workshops. I have given presentations at the University of Texas, Austin Community College, Early Childhood Intervention workshops/meetings, Gallaudet University, and TSD family weekend retreats. I was featured in the online video interactive interview with the Austin American­Statesman in June 2006. I am invited to give a presentation in Mark Bernstein’s class once a year since I became a faculty member. The topic is “Work with families who have deaf babies”. I was invited to be the 8th grade graduation speaker at the Texas School for the Deaf on May 21, 2014. I was one of the featured speakers at the TSD Family Weekend Retreat on June 14, 2014. I taught some basic sign language to families who have deaf and hard of hearing babies/children. I also spoke about deaf culture during this session.

Family Weekend Retreat Coordinator, 1994­2007

I coordinated the successful TSD Family Weekend retreat every summer through 1999. I organized workshops and panels for parents. I presented several workshops about ASL and deaf culture. I also worked as a coordinator for the retreat in 2001, 2002, 2003, 2005, and 2007; and since 2007, I continue to be invited to give workshops at it.

Teacher ­ Parent­Infant Program, Aug 1993 ­ Aug 1999 & Aug 2000 ­ Aug 2007

I consulted with parents who have deaf babies from birth to age 3. I provided resources and ideas about successful communication with deaf babies. I planned and conducted weekly home visits with parents and their deaf babies. I taught deaf children from birth to age 3 in a rich, optimal communication classroom setting.

I worked with parents who have deaf children. I made home visits and provided a wealth of resources about communication uses with deaf children.

I participated in the training sessions and interviews through Texas Assessment of Sign Communications ­ . Both training sessions and interviews were sponsored by Wohl Communication Services, Inc, a contractor to the State Board for Educator Certification of the Texas Education Agency. Distinctions

I was selected to receive the Raymond Dickson Centennial Endowed Teaching Fellowship for the 2014­2015 academic year. This award recognizes the consistent level of excellence in teaching students within the Department of Linguistics.

I was awarded the Gallaudet University Alumni Association Young Alumnus Award in the year 2000. This award is presented to an alumnus or alumna who has left the University within the past 15 years and who has worked to bring favorable recognition to Gallaudet University.

Experience

Varsity Cheerleading Coach, 1994­1999, Texas School for the Deaf.

I coached varsity cheerleaders during football and basketball seasons. I led the team to high competitive rankings in various tournaments.

Varsity Cheerleading Coach, 1999­2000, Gallaudet University in Washington, DC.

I led a talented group of cheerleaders, including Shoshannah Stern, at the NCAA Division Three level during football and basketball season. I coached the team to 2nd place ranking in the Capital Athletic Conference tournament, the highest ranking achieved in the history of Gallaudet cheerleading team.
