The Gospel Music Association (GMA) announced that Reba McEntire, MercyMe, CeCe Winans and Zach Williams will perform at the 48th Annual GMA Dove Awards on Tuesday, October 17 at Lipscomb University’s Allen Arena in Nashville. Reba picks up her first GMA Dove Awards nominations for her album SING IT NOW:SONGS OF FAITH & HOPE and its lead single “Back To God.” SING IT NOW is nominated for Bluegrass/Country/Roots Album of the Year. “Back To God” is up for Bluegrass/Country/Roots Recorded Song Of The Year. The 48th annual GMA Dove Awards are slated to air on TBN October 22. Following a whirlwind media blitz in New York City last week with multiple appearances on national television, Reba McEntire continues to deliver for her fans as SING IT NOW: SONGS OF FAITH & HOPE debuts at No. 1 across both Billboard’s Country and Christian/Gospel charts with 54,426 in total consumption. Reba McEntire proved the early bird gets the worm this morning as she took over the TODAY show, performing her brand new single “Back To God” and chatting with hosts Matt Lauer, Maria Shriver, Al Roker, Sheinelle Jones, Hoda Kotb and Kathie Lee Gifford. Reba McEntire has never been one to “rest on her laurels” (Associated Press) and continues to prove that her strong work ethic couples well with passion as she prepares to release SING IT NOW: SONGS OF FAITH & HOPE on February 3, 2017 jointly through Nash Icon Records and Capitol Christian Music Group. Reba McEntire “Sing It Now: Songs of Hope and Faith” Album Review. Reba McEntire has taken the road most travelled. When many country music veterans who find their star power waning with fewer and fewer top- tiered charting hits, they often revert to doing an oldies album or a Christmas record or as McEntire does in this instance, a Christian music project. It's easy to discount this as a nail on McEntire's #1 streaking days, but this is far from the Oklahoma native's dirge. Rather, this is a blossoming labor of love. For decades, the country music queen has had always wanted to cut a Gospel record. However, the fear of overshadowing her own sister (Susie Luchsinger who is a Gospel artist) had put this love effort on the backburner until now. And we are thankful that she has finally released this double-disc album on Nash Icon records. With 20 song, generosity certainly has the upper hand when it comes to the number of tracks on this record. Disc one features McEntire adding her Southern drawl to the beloved hymns of the church. While disc two finds the red-headed singer singing ten (mostly) new songs. Disc one is more or less predictable and is frankly the duller of the two instalments. McEntire often doesn't reinvent the hymns but she simply imbues them with her seasoned and thoughtful readings. Bringing back to mind her earlier days where she was decidedly more country and less constrained by commercialism, there's a streak of unadulterated freedom and sincerity in her intonations when she sings familiar hymns such as "Amazing Grace," "In the Garden" and the gorgeous simple but so moving, "Jesus Loves Me." The highlight on disc one is when McEntire joins voices with her daughter-in-law Kelly Clarkson and long-time pal Trisha Yearwood on a flawless version of "Softly and Tenderly." Disc two is perfect in every sense of the word. First and foremost, you get to hear McEntire not just a seminal interpreter of songs. Rather, you witness the country veteran as a worshipper. Seguing in effortless from disc one is a Tony Wood, Joseph Habedank and Michael Farren worship piece and title track "Sing It Again." Then she rattles the church's windows with a rousing Gospel-ish version of "I've Got the Lord on My Side" (a song co-written by McEntire and her mother). Then she delivers some funky blues with "God and My Girlfriends," an ode of thanks for her vertical and horizontal relationships. Lead single "Back to God" was first released by the song's co-writer Randy Houser. McEntire adds finesse and a touch of realism to this gorgeous ballad that speaks of how every circumstance of life ought to bring us back to God. The song's attention paid to details make this song extra special. McEntire doesn't just sing for the average pew sitting and Bible holding Christian, there are songs here that function as great apologetic pieces for the unbeliever. "There is a God," a failed single for Lee Ann Womack, lights up in McEntire's hands. Never argumentative or preachy; "There's a God" is one of the most ear-catching defence of God's existence in music history. At the end of the day, we are grateful McEntire has taken the wrong most travelled. Without the pressures of competition and trying to line up with Miranda Lambert and Carrie Underwood for a hit, McEntire sounds relaxed, sincere, and all so powerful. • CHRIS KNIGHT Almost Daylight
CHRIS KNIGHT Almost Daylight “It’s hard to know how people are gonna react,” Chris Knight says of Almost Daylight, his ninth album and first new recording in over seven years. “I’ve written songs about a lot of different things going all the way back to my first record, and some folks still think ‘somebody kills somebody’ is all I write about. Maybe that’s why I was bound and determined to get these particular songs on this album. If people like them, then we’ll be fine. But I wasn’t gonna do it any other way.” For the past 20 years, Chris Knight has only made music his own way. He’s released eight acclaimed albums, played thousands of electrifying live shows and built generations of fervent fans from Texas honky-tonks to Manhattan rock clubs. He’s been hailed as “the last of a dying breed…a taciturn loner with an acoustic guitar and a college degree” (The New York Times) and “a storyteller in the best traditions of Mellencamp and Springsteen” (USA Today). Bottom line, he’s hard-earned his reputation as one of America’s most uncompromising and respected singer/songwriters. And now with Almost Daylight, Knight delivers the most powerful – and unexpected – music of his career. Almost Daylight is very much a Chris Knight album, familiarly featuring vivid pictures of rural characters, desperate men and hardscrabble survivors. At the same time it’s unlike anything Knight has done before, with formidable testaments to compassion, redemption and even straight-up love. It’s an album both tough and tender, as bare-knuckled as it is open-hearted.

  • Brothers Osborne Pawn Shop Album Bio
Brothers Osborne Pawn Shop Album Bio Years before they climbed the country charts with songs like "Stay a Little Longer" and "Rum," the Brothers Osborne grew up in Deale, Maryland, a small fishing town on the Atlantic seaboard. It was a cozy place, filled with blue-collar workers who made their living on the water. During the weekends, many of those workers would head over to the Osborne household, where a series of loose, all-night jam sessions filled the Maryland air with the sounds of Bob Seger, Hank Williams, Tom Petty and George Jones. The Osborne siblings strummed their first chords during those jam sessions. From the very start, TJ Osborne was the brother with the voice. He sang in a thick, low baritone, crooning like Johnny Cash long before he was even old enough to drive. Older brother John, on the other hand, was the family's guitar shredder, his fingers capable of down-home bluegrass licks, arena-worthy rock riffs, country twang, and everything in between. Combined, the two Osbornes could play everything from traditional country music to rock & roll, creating a broad, full-bodied sound that would eventually fill the 11 songs on their major-label debut, Pawn Shop. Like its title suggests, Pawn Shop offers a little bit of everything. There's bluesy slide guitar, country duets, southern rock solos, harmonies, and plenty of groove. The hooks are big, the guitars are loud, and the songs — every last one of them co-written by the Osbornes, who reached out to award-winning songwriters like Shane McAnally and Ross Copperman for help — introduce a duo whose music bridges the gap between the mainstream and the alternative world.

  • Voices in the Hall: Buddy and Julie Miller Episode Transcript
VOICES IN THE HALL: BUDDY AND JULIE MILLER EPISODE TRANSCRIPT PETER COOPER Welcome to Voices in the Hall, presented by the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum. I’m Peter Cooper. My guests today are two remarkable musicians… Buddy and Julie Miller. BUDDY MILLER We only moved here for economics. Just to maybe we could talk ourselves into a house because musicians are almost people in Nashville. In L.A., anywhere else we were living it's like no way a musician’s going to end up with a house. We were broke and just seemed like we were going to be. So we moved here. JULIE MILLER We were kind of fine with being broke. BUDDY MILLER Yeah. We were always fine with being broke. But we got here and we found out this is a great city with so many, there's so much going on here musically,. JULIE MILLER More and more. BUDDY MILLER Yeah. And we just fell in with like-minded music friends. JULIE MILLER Buddy would go to sleep at a reasonable hour, and I would stay up all night ‘til the sun would come up. Once I got done with this song that night, smiled and I said, “Buddy, I’ve got you a song.” PETER COOPER It’s Voices in the Hall with Buddy and Julie Miller. “Breakdown on 20th Avenue South” Buddy & Julie Miller (Title Track / New West) PETER COOPER “Breakdown on 20th Avenue South.” Now, 20th Avenue South is a lovely residential street, located within walking distance — if you’re up for walking — of a pretty good grocery store and Brown’s Diner, where many of Nashville’s finest songwriters go to hang out and talk about most anything but songwriting.

His genius sneaks up on you: you’re humming along to a melody you can’t get out of your head long before you realize there are layers to unpack and lines worth serious study. Travis Hill “Scooter Carusoe” has lived and worked in the Nashville music community for two decades. He was a cofounder of independent music publisher Carnival Music and now writes for Endurance/BMG Music. Between publishing and song writing he has twenty plus number one songs to his credit and was nominated for the 2018 CMA song of the year with “Drunk Girl.” His songs have been performed on The Grammy’s, CMA’s, ACM’s and received multiple NSAI, ASCAP and SESAC awards. His works have been recorded by Kenny Chesney, Rascal Flatts, Eric Church, Lady Antebellum, Uncle Kracker, Dierks Bentley, Sugarland, Chris Janson, Brett Eldredge, Gary Allan, Jordan Davis, Montgomery Gentry, Pat Green, Chase Rice, Eli Young Band, Darius Rucker, David Nail and more. Today, the North Carolina-born, Knoxville, Tennessee-raised Hill lives in Nashville with his wife and two sons. Yes, Carusoe is a pen name, but his insistence on using it reveals a lot about who he really is stubborn and Scooter Carusoe inspiring, always fighting to keep the focus where it should be–the song. Marv Green, a Southern California native, moved to Nashville in March of 1993. Within 6 months, Marv’s songwriting caught the attention of producer Scott Hendricks, who signed Marv to a publishing deal with Big Tractor and Warner Chappell music.
