Metro does not cover its lines by specific colors, but the timetable accents for the Union Pacific/West line are Kate Shelley Rose pink, honoring the Iowa woman who saved the Chicago & North Western rail train from disaster in 1881. Yellow and green have already been selected for the northern and northwest lines of union pacific, so pink was chosen for this line. [3] In April 2013, the public timetable shows 30 trains departing Chicago every weekday, 22 of which run to Elburn. Of the 8 weekday trains that do not pass to Elburn, 4 end at Elmhurst, 2 in Geneva, 1 in West Chicago and 1 in La Fox. All weekend trains run to Elburn. By 2006, all Metro trains on this line had ended up in Geneva. The line runs as part of the Union Pacific Railroad Geneva subdivision (ex-C& NW line to Clinton, Iowa.) The line runs from the Ogilvie Transportation Center in downtown Chicago through the western suburbs to Elburn. It is the oldest railway line in Chicago, the Galena route and the Chicago Union Railroad along Kinzie Street. Until the late 1940s, the line had a branch office in Freeport, Illinois. It differed from the main line to West Chicago and had stations in Elgin, Marengo, Belvidere, Rockford, Freeport, and other communities. Ridership Since 2014, the annual number of riders has decreased from 8.4 million to 8.1 million, an overall decrease of 3.4%.
