Meek is currently serving in his fourth term in the U.S. House of Representatives. He was first elected to public office at the age of 27 and has become a key member of a new generation of leaders who are setting a new standard in public service and political leadership. In his 14-plus years of public service, first as a state Representative and state Senator in Florida and now as a United States Congressman, Meek has earned a reputation for responsive constituent service, conscientious lawmaking and innovative problem solving. Currently, Meek is the only Democratic Floridian sitting on the powerful House Committee on Ways and Means. He sits on the Subcommittee on Select Revenue Measures and the Subcommittee on Income Security and Family Support. In January 2007, Congressman Meek was appointed to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, an inter-parliamentary organization of legislators representing NATO Members and associate countries.
