Baseball Camps 2012 SAINTS IN “THE SHOW” FEATURING H USF Head Baseball Twenty-seven former University of St. Francis players have signed professional baseball contracts during the 38-year history of the Coach Brian Michalak program with four of those individuals having reached the major- H Former USF Head league level. Baseball Coaches Infielder Kevin Rhomberg, the Saints’ all-time single-season leader Gordie Gillespie & in batting average (.465), made it up with the Cleveland Indians in Tony Delgado the early 1980’s. H USF Coaching Staff Sean Lawrence, who went 10-1 on the mound for the Saints in 1992, & Team was called up to the majors in 1998. Outfielder Les Norman, whose batting prowess led the Saints to the WINTER 1989 and 1990 NAIA World Series, reached the majors twice with the Kansas City Royals. BASEBALL Steve Parris, a teammate of Norman’s, led a stellar pitching staff that carried St. Francis to the 1989 national title game. Parris first reached “The Show” with the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1995 and later CAMPS 2012 was an outstanding pitcher in the Cincinnati Reds’ rotation. He has 1st thru 6th Grades also pitched in the Toronto Blue Jays’ and Tampa Bay Devil Rays’ organizations. Some of the game’s brightest stars showed off their talents on the collegiate diamond before moving on to “The Show.” The last two National League Most Valuable Players, Barry Bonds (Arizona State) and Jeff Kent (California), 2000 American League MVP Jason Giambi (Long Beach State) and both of last year’s Cy Young Award winners, Roger Clemens (Texas) and Randy Johnson (USC) are among those that starred in the collegiate ranks. Perennial All-Stars Nomar Garciaparra (Georgia Tech), Frank Thomas (Auburn), Barry Larkin (Michigan), Todd Helton (Tennessee), Jeff Bagwell (Hartford), Kevin Brown (Georgia Tech) and Mike Mussina (Stanford) are a few more examples of quality performers from the college ranks.
