Building a dedicated audience across two series, Grantchester increased its market share by +6% year-on-year . Grantchester is a storming success (Daily Mail) . Grantchester feels more like a Sunday night drama than a Wednesday one: cosy, nostalgic and gently compelling. Norton but nice – (Daily Telegraph) o Capital - BBC 1 . Ratings - Series Peak 4.96 million; Series Average 4.61 million . Across the series Capital had a cumulative reach of 14.22 million viewers. This is BBC drama at its absolute finest (Cultbox) . A complicated and brilliant portrait of London life (The Guardian) . The BBC's Capital is that rare thing: an adaptation better than the book (New Statesman) o River – BBC 1 . Ratings - Series Peak 5.1 million; Series Average 3.91 million . Winning its timeslot, the series premiere of River delivered a debut consolidated audience of 5.11 million viewers and a 19.8% market share . This is as emotionally involving as crime drama gets (Boyd Hilton Heat) . We’re used to seeing TV cops haunted by their past, but not like this (Radio Times) . River has won the following awards: Monte Carlo Golden Nymph Award - Best TV Series Drama, FIPA D'OR Best Actor for Stellan Skarsgard. River received the nominations for the following awards: BAFTA TV 2016 - Best Supporting Actress to Leslie Manville, FIPA D'OR - Best Drama Series, FIPA D'OR Best Actor for Stellan Skarsgard Overseas sales o Kudos continues to lead the way in internationalising UK drama and working with the SVOD platforms. o Humans is a co-production with AMC in the US and has been sold to Amazon. o Grantchester is a co-production with PBS and sells strongly internationally. o The Tunnel 2 is a co-production with Sky Atlantic and Canal Plus. o River is a co-production with Netflix. o A local version of Humans will be produced in China. o A local version of Broadchurch is being produced in France for TF2. Business Expansion o 2015 was the most successful financial year ever for Kudos as a result of the strong production slate and very strong international sales. o Kudos’ production slate through 2016 and 2017 is robust and with mega budget productions such as Tin Star and Troy in production, we expect further strong financial performance. o There will be an increasing focus on premium drama development for the US market combined with concentrating on producing the best drama for the domestic market. Culture and reputation of the company Achievements o Kudos was published in Broadcast magazine in a list of “The Best Places To Work In TV 2016” o Winner of 2016 Bulldog award for Best Independent Production Company. Contribution to the industry o Kudos creates training placements for the Mama Youth Project - an organisation that aims to equip young people (18-25) from BAME and less privileged backgrounds with the skills and experience to secure long-term employment in the TV and Media industry. o Directors UK Placements – We work with Directors UK to offer placements on our productions to their members. This allows them to shadow our directors on set for a number of days during production. o Kudos has launched a new partnership with the City and Islington College to increase diversity amongst its workforce. o Creative Diversity Network Pledge – Kudos have signed up to the CDN Pledge which encourages talent regardless of background, gender, race, disability, age, sexual orientation or religious beliefs on all productions. o Albert and Albert+ Scheme – Kudos sit on the consortium board helping to shape the carbon footprint of TV production whilst instilling environmentally stable production practises. Workplace culture and training initiatives o Internal Production Placement – Kudos offer their staff short production placements, giving them the opportunity to shadow a department or production role that they are potentially interest in moving into in the future o Courses – Kudos offer formal and informal courses, based internally or externally to existing employees to improve their skillset in any area they feel would be beneficial to them, from editing courses to writing pitch proposals. o On Set Placements – We have recently started working with Creative Skill Set and the Upskilling Fund to offer employees’ opportunities to work full time on production in a role which they hope to take on themselves in the future. o KAGs – Fun is a huge part of Kudos’ ethos and as such the Kudos Action Group is created employees that volunteer their time to organise social events for the company with an annual budget. o Lunchtime Learners – Kudos employees discuss their role within the company to enlighten their fellow employees on their work and potential avenues for junior employee’s career progression. External speakers also come in to discuss the industry and other opportunities and roles out there. o Personal Development Fund – each employee has a £200 fund to spend each year on a personal development activity of their choice. .

This is Thomas Hardy country: he understood and wrote about this savage, beautiful scenery better than anyone. Broadchurch is peppered with references to his work, from the name of David Tennant’s character, Alec Hardy, to the name of the local police force, Wessex Police. There are more embedded in the second series too. Then there’s the cast, headed by Olivia Colman and Tennant. I wrote the part of Ellie for Olivia – I’m not sure what we’d have done if she’d turned us down. Thankfully, she didn’t, and it has been a privilege to write for TELEVISION an actress who’s capable of anything you throw at her. She’s also a wonderful person to have on set: funny and relaxed when the cameras aren’t rolling; incredibly serious WATCHING about her work the second shooting starts. In David Tennant, we found the perfect male counterpart: an extra ordinary actor, THE DETECTIVES also capable of the switch from emotion to ITV’s atmospheric crime dramaBroadchurch humour in the blink of an eye. They both possess such humanity, empathy and returns for a second series in January.warmth, as actors and as people. Piper 2016 Abstract This dissertation explores spatio-temporal shifts in twenty-first century French crime narratives, through a series of close readings of contemporary crime films, television, literature, and comics. The works examined rely on the formal properties of the policier genre but adapt its standard conventions, most notably with deviations in the use and function of space. In this dissertation, I demonstrate that the modern policier is one that embraces its spatio-temporal, social, and generic non-fixity. The textual/visual constructions of many hyper-contemporary crime narratives contain multiple modes of decomposition within: a decentralization of space, which moves the action away from the genre’s traditionally urban location to boundless rural spaces and border zones; a de- concentration of the policier genre, through the incorporation of tropes from other literary styles and works; and a devolution of social cohesion and community identity in the narratives. Chapter 1 examines works where historic references and urban legends of the 19th century fantastique literary genre unfold in modern rural locations. The past and the present converge to problematize modern ideals, identity, and community unity in rural spaces where reason is pitted against the supernatural.

The increasing proliferation of television-to-television adaptations and remakes necessitates revisiting the terminology to assess how it accommodates methodological approaches that extend beyond cross-cultural analyses. As narrative content and style are inextricably connected, this article attends to the complexity of employing existing terms to analyse the new version of a programme that simultaneously replicates and departs from the style and tone of its predecessor. In addition, the contribution of businesses in completing questionnaires was much appreciated. 2 The Impact of Broadchurch on Business in West Dorset 2013 THE IMPACT OF BROADCHURCH ON BUSINESS IN WEST DORSET 2013 EXECUTIVE SUMMARY Achieving viewing figures of between 7-10 million per episode during an eight-week period in early 2013, Broadchurch was a highly successful TV drama series filmed in part in and around the West Bay area. The series stimulated huge interest in the filming location from the viewing public and the national media, alongside a number of initiatives set up by West Dorset and Weymouth & Portland Shared Services Partnership to harness the marketing opportunities presented by the portrayal of the locality on national television. Anecdotal evidence identified a rise in the number of people visiting Bridport and West Bay seeking the ‘real’ Broadchurch. The profile of the area as a visitor destination increased significantly and with immediate effect.     CAST BIOGRAPHIES TCHÉKY KARYO (Julien Baptiste) Tchéky Karyo juggles parallel careers in theater, film and music. Raised in France, Tchéky studied drama at the Cyrano Theatre before joining the Daniel Sorano Company and the National Theatre of Strasbourg. Finding success in the French film industry, Tchéky has worked with directors such as Walter Salles and legend of the nouvelle-vague, Eric Rohmer. He gained international recognition for his role in Luc Besson’s Nikita (1990) and the Hollywood parts that followed, such as Ridley Scott’s 1492: Conquest of Paradise (1992) and the blockbusters Bad Boys (1995) and Goldeneye (1995). He is currently filming the production of Belle& Sebastian: The Adventure Continues. Tchéky continued to work in France, starring in cult favorite Dobermann (1997), Luc Besson’s Jeanne d’Arc (1999) and Jean-Pierre Jeunet’s A Very Long Engagement (2004). He also appeared in Roland Emmerich’s The Patriot (2000) and Neil Jordan’s The Good Thief (2002). In theater, Tchéky has played a wide range of both classical and contemporary roles, and has also worked on television productions such as: “D'Artagnan,” “L'Affaire Bruay en Artois,” “No Limit” for TF 1, “Les Rois Maudits” for France 2 and “Le SAC des Hommes de l'Ombre” for Canal Plus. In recent years, Tchéky can be seen in Emilio Estevez’s film, The Way (2010), while his second music album “Credo” is available on Verycords.
