The Sunday Times, City Press and Rapport all allege Malema has benefited substantially from several tenders - and that most of them stem from his home province Limpopo, where he wields significant influence. According to the Sunday Times, official tender and government documents show Malema was involved in more than 20 contracts, each worth between R500 000 and R39m between 2007 and 2008. One of Malema's businesses, SGL Engineering Projects, has profited from more than R130m worth of tenders in just two years. Among the tenders awarded to SGL, notes the report, was one by Roads Agency Limpopo, which has a budget of over R2bn, and which is headed by Sello Rasethaba, a close friend of Malema. Rasethaba was appointed last year shortly after Malema's ally, Limpopo Premier Cassel Mathale, took office. In the spirit of Thuma Mina I have obliged. Program Director, in preparing for this lecture, I thought if there was something we had come to learn from Andrew Mlangeni was the ability to speak truth to power no matter the costs.     Media statement on the public announcement of members of the Eastern Cape Planning Commission by Premier Noxolo Kiviet Programme Director Members of the Executive Council The Director-General Special guests and partners Head of Departments Media Representatives Welcome to this very important day, when we are launching our Provincial Planning Commission assigned to spearhead the development of our 2030 vision in collaboration with all our people in the province. The Executive Council of the Eastern Cape took a decision to link the planning function to the Provincial Treasury resulting in creation of the provincial Ministry of Planning and Finance under MEC Phumulo Masualle. Subsequent to that announcement, the MEC presented in November 2011 a comprehensive report on the institutional structure for the planning commission. The report recommended amongst others the need to set up the planning infrastructure include the following aspects: The commission comprising 8 part-time members drawn from eminent persons that are familiar with the development challenges of the province; Given the part-time nature of the commissioners, it was further recommended that administrative secretariat be appointed to support the operational requirements of the commission; Technical support staff be appointed to enhance the research capacity within the planning commission; The commission share its corporate services function with the Provincial Treasury to ensure the efficient use of the personnel resources; Resources be set aside from the budget to resource the functioning of the commission. The MEC for Planning and Finance further recommended that the mandate of the Eastern Cape Planning Commission be: 1 The drawing up of the long-term plan of the Province- Vision 2030.

    INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY Address by: Eastern Cape Premier, Ms Noxolo Kiviet 01 March 2011 Honourable Speaker and Deputy Speaker Members of the Executive Council Director-General and senior members of our administration Members of the Media Honoured guests Ladies and gentlemen As part of the womenfolk, I am quite honoured to have this opportunity to join in solidarity our worldwide community in launching a month-long programme commemorating the International Women’s Day, observed globally on 08 March each year since 1911. The centenary of this day comes as we continue to battle in our respective societies with economic, political and social challenges that in 1908 compelled women to raise their voices and speak up demanding shorter working hours, better pay and voting rights. The 1910 international conference of women decision, recognised by the United Nations, to set aside a day to put pressure for women's demands remains pungently relevant even today as we have not yet reached a stage where we can say that social equity, justice, peace and development is accessible to all. | Page 2 of 10 It is also worth remembering that this year in South Africa; we will be celebrating the 55th year anniversary of the 1956 women’s march to the Union Building. Women from all over South Africa, representing all racial groups and classes descended on Pretoria in defiance of the apartheid regime oppression brought about by the extension of pass laws. On 09 August we shall honour them recognising their boldness in demonstrating their resentment of such laws. Our current state reflects triumph over adversity as true freedom, as expressed by our first democratically elected President, Nelson Mandela, “cannot be achieved unless women have been emancipated from all forms of oppression”.

Just six weeks ago, President Cyril Ramaphosa acknowledged at his inauguration, that South Africans had, on 8 May this year, chosen hope over hopelessness. He said that we all want action and not just words and promises. That it is through action we will create the society for which so many have fought and sacrificed and for which all of us yearn. During the course of this Sixth Administration, ladies and gentlemen, this government has prioritised actions that will promote social and economic transformation, fight poverty, inequality and create work, particularly for those entering the labour market for the first time.

    Media Statement: TAC welcome permanent appointment of MEC for Health and list key areas of concern Johannesburg, 2 December 2020 – The Treatment Action Campaign (TAC) welcomes the Gauteng Premier David Makhura’s appointment of a new permanent Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Health in the province today. According to the Premier Dr. Nomathemba Mokgethi, “is not new to the health sector and her knowledge, experience and qualifications makes her a strong candidate to lead the health portfolio. Her vast experience as a seasoned administrator is an added advantage in steering the department to good performance.” We have noted on multiple occasions that the period since the implementation of the lockdown has been filled with turmoil since Dr Bandile Masuku vacated the position amidst corruption allegations. We extend our thanks to the MEC for Jacob Mamabolo who acted during this extraordinary period. We acknowledge that it must not have been easy bringing stability to the Health portfolio while also working as the MEC for Transport. Tough job ahead for her We note that the province is lagging behind in the HIV and TB response, having only achieved 89%-66%-88% of the 90-90-90 targets by the end of 20191. These numbers were inimically affected by COVID-19. Furthermore, the Ritshidze State of Gauteng report highlights that the antiretroviral treatment programme has made very little gains. While 160, 247 people tested HIV positive in PEPFAR priority districts in the province until the end of quarter three of the PEPFAR year - June 2020 - only 82% - 131, 070 – were initiated on treatment.
