PREFACE This dissertation bears the name of the writer but is in truth a compilation of the work of many hands. Numerous people and offices have been so kind as to aid in many ways to the development of this work. First, I must thank my dissertation committee comprised of Mark Simpson and my supervisor Dennis Williams. Both of these men have provided much more than insight to this dissertation. They have acted as friends and cheerleaders. All students should be so lucky as to have teachers as these two men. Marsha Omanson gave legitimacy to the final presentation of the paper. Her ability to find errors where others missed errors is second to none. Susan Martin of Saltillo High School in Saltillo, Mississippi, proved to be as much as an asset to checking for grammatical errors as she is as a Sunday school teacher. If any amount of error remains in this finished product it is the fault of the author alone. Michael Lindsey, Vice-President of BanCorpSouth, Tupelo, Mississippi, gave invaluable assistance in the calculations of the statistical sections of this work. Michael has proven over and over himself to be a wizard with Excel and PowerPoint. This work would not have been completed without his help. Susan Wilder of the MIS Office at Southern Seminary went beyond the call of duty to enable this dissertation to be completed. From the survey design to tabulating numbers, the work Susan performed made this project a lighter load to carry. Jacob Lee, Xl Reproduced with permission of the copyright owner. A word must be written concerning the hospitality of Cornelia Williams. She is a life long educator and hostess beyond measure. The hospitality she has shared with my family over the past several years has deepened my personal.
